Stephen Ireland - We could do with him

Can't imagine this guy is good for squad harmony. He comes off as one of the biggest ego's I've seen in English football. Is this really a quote from him?
If I can¹t get a move in January then I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window.

That cant be true, surely? That would honestly make him the biggest cnut in PL football. He's said he doesnt want to play for Ireland (said his Nan died in order to not play for them or something along those lines), but he'd use and take advantage of his country to try and attract a potential club to buy him from the team he seemed so happy to join just a few months ago? What a complete and utter fecking knob.

However, this might not be true though. A part of me almost hopes it isnt, actually.

I havent even really noticed him in a match since he went to Villa.

That's because he's only played half the league matches for Villa, and even then has come on as a sub in a few of those.

I think his descent into mediocrity is picking up momentum, and I want for us to have nothing to do with him.

IF we could get him on the cheap (<£5m, which i dont think we could fwiw) i would give it a punt in January, even on just a short term deal to see how he fits in and see if he has become rubbish or whether Fergie can sort him out. By doing it in January we would be able to evaluate him (and the rest of our midfield) before the summer and still be able to make changes then if required.

I like Ireland, he showed he was a good player at City and I just dont think Houlier has really taken to him at Villa. The comments about his training one finds hard to believe given his well documented routines and things that he goes through for keeping in shape. And if anyone can turn get his career back on path then it would be SAF.

Having said that, if we are only to buy one midfielder in January and next summer (and i hope to god we buy at least one - more if Giggs and Scholes call it a day), then there are bigger, better targets than Ireland - he could simply be one of Fergies fabled "punts".
