Stephen Ireland - We could do with him

There's a rubbish story in one of the papers about Johnson Ireland and Onuoha going to Everton in exchange for Arteta. While that won't happen, Each of those three would go well for Villa, Fulham, Liverpool, Everton etc.

Most likely him reaffirming his intention to stay at City in spite of the rumours this week linking him with Sunderland.

That surprises me. I thought he'd be keen to join Sparky at Fulham.

Odds slashed to evens for us to sign him.

Looks like the muppets have been misled again. First Ozil, now this.

 I'm no muppet. I just read it elsewhere and figured it'd be worth mentioning. You'll find very few posts from me in this thread or this forum for that matter.

He was told by Mancini that he was unlikely to find his place in 25 Man Squad, Don't think there is any reason why he would stay at City after this.

Has this whole rumour kicked off because of what he has said on Twitter? He could be on a wum could he not

I genuinely think that means there's a strong chance of him going to United.

Wasn't talking about you. Meant the guys who all rushed to have a punt which made the odds fall.

No thanks. I think he'll be involved in a possible deal for Milner.

So do I. And if Milner joines Manchester City and Ireland joins Aston Villa. I bet Ireland will be considered the better player of the two at the end of season. Such a swap would probably improve Villa as they would sign someone else from all the money Milner would bring in as well as replacing Milner with Ireland.

No he wasnt.

“Right now I don’t know who will miss out. I have not decided anything about Stephen Ireland,” Mancini told the Daily Star.

“There has been no problem with him on the tour. I don’t know how it’s possible for him to think anything other than that he has a chance of a future here because I haven’t decided.

“It is up to him to prove himself to me.

I made Stephen captain for the game on Sunday so that shows I still have belief in him.

New Premier League regulations require a club to name a maximum of 25 players, leaving Mancini to question whether players like Ireland and Craig Bellamy will make the squad for the upcoming season.

“We have 30 players, maybe more, and we have to get it down to 25 before the end of August.

“So it is clear that some of the players we have here are going to be left off that list. I am not sure yet if one of those will be Craig Bellamy.

“At this moment it is impossible to know which players will be on that final list.”

I'm pretty sure he knows exactly who won't get in.

Do you really think he has had that squad all this time but only in the next couple of weeks he is going to decide who he fancies and who he doesn't?

Yes. Because City arent done buying players. And because its not as simple as saying "right you, you and you are off". City need to establish who they can sell and who they cant sell given their high wages.

And because a player like Ireland, if playing to his full ability, is an asset to the club. The problem is his attitude and form, and a good pre-season could convince the manager to give him another go. Ever Banega faced the same thing at Valencia last season, because he played so well in pre-season Valencia decided not to sell him to Stuttgart for a loss and he became a key player for them last season. If Ireland can convince Mancini to keep him, he could become a key player for City next season. But he's got some work to do.

Has anyone read his other tweets? Only 13 posts over a year or so..

Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Mancini urges Ireland exit

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes the time has come for Stephen Ireland to leave Eastlands.

The former Republic of Ireland international has spent his entire career with City and is on a long-term contract with the club.

Ireland has been tipped to join Aston Villa as part of the deal that sees James Milner join City, although a pay-off is curtailing the deal.

Italian tactician Mancini knows Ireland is a good player, but feels the time has now come for the 23-year-old to grow elsewhere.

Change

"Stephen Ireland is a good player but he has been here all his life and he needs to change," said Mancini.

"Sometimes it can happen that a player stays with the same squad for 15 years and plays well but a moment arrives when he needs to change.

"Now is time for him. I really think he can improve."

Mancini is a real twat. I don't like Bellamy or Ireland but, the way he is talking about them as they need to sort themselves out is a bit ridiculous. The club signed them - Ireland especially they signed a long term contract, now that they've bought a 100 players - he wants to discard them like they are nothing.

Maybe someone should tell him what it means for a player to stay at one club and what a rare thing it is and not something to be sneered at.

Yes. Saw this earlier. And as much as I bemoan Ireland, I have to say I felt for him reading this shite. That pretty boy Mancini is a real bellend isn't he. I'd love to see Ireland twat him during a training misunderstanding. I guess that's a bit wrong of me.

Not at all. Mancini is acting a right twat showing no respect to the existing players. Once all the mercenarys feck off after they've earned some cash they'll be wishing they had the likes of Ireland back at the club.

in a side note a move to Villa could be a great move for him as he has the potential to run the team for them.

Jesus fecking Christ, what the hell is Mancini playing at?

Seriously is this the first time a manager's talked about a player like that?

Surely they'd be happy with Ireland + big cash for Milner? I know it's not FM but that seems like a reasonable deal to me, Ireland's more talented and just needs to be focused. If he's given the job of running a side then I could see him excelling.

Things haven't been working out for him at Villa apparently, according to Houllier he isn't supposed to working hard enough which is odd considering he was well known as a workaholic at City. He must be still a bit raw over the way he was treated at City near the end.

He has the talent & ability, he just needs to be handled correctly. Fergie i reckon would do a job on him & would get the best out of him.

Its a real shame about him, he's lost a lot of what he had a few years back. If I were him, I'd go abroad to somewhere where I would play, and build up my reputation again.

In other Stephen Ireland news, apparently he has Wifi on his fish tank, so he can regulate the water temperature when he's on holiday.

Well he just had it coming didn't he? He had a bright future and then he blew it when he chose to spend time with his girlfriend over playing for his own country. So his playing time was limited to just his club. And if he did not make an impression for his club, then he was screwed and that is exactly what is happening right now.

Houllier would be mad to cut him loose so soon. He's the one genuinely creative player they have and if they started playing Agbonlahor up front I reckon they have the makings of a decent partnership.

Surely this could not be true and would anyone actually welcome him back apart from Trap?

Ireland will make international return to secure move

Villa outcast Stephen Ireland is ready to end his international exile as he seeks a January move to Merseyside.

The midfielder, who was an £8m makeweight in James Milner¹s big money move to Eastlands, is desperate to end his Villa misery.

Villa boss, Gerard Houllier, will listen to offers for the 24-year-old as he looks to rebuild a Villa side lying four points above the relegation zone.

Ireland retired from international football in 2007 after falsely claiming his grandmother had died.

He claimed he would not return to the international team but after being frozen out at Villa, he looks to have changed his mind.

Giovanni Trapattoni has tried to tempt him out of retirement previously and Ireland told friends: “I am seriously thinking of calling Trap in the next few weeks and hopefully can work my way back into his plans.

“If I can¹t get a move in January then I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window.”

The midfielder watched the 2-1 win over local rivals West Brom from the stands after failing to make the Villa squad and will be available for around £4m as Houllier looks to bolster his struggling squad.
