Also linked with Arsenal recently and now Lazio say he wants to join them.

Seems like everyone is trying to get a piece of him

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare claims that Stefan de Vrij wants to join the Italian club, dismissing reports that the Feyenoord defender is in talks with Manchester United.

De Vrij has been linked with a reunion with Louis van Gaal, with the pair currently working together for Netherlands at the World Cup.

The 22-year-old's stellar performances in Brazil have drawn admiring glances from across Europe but Tare is adamant that the player's "will"is to join Lazio.

"Many things have been said and written about De Vrij and his transfer to United but this is not true," he told reporters.

"His agent has said clearly that he has never been to Manchester to meet with the English club. De Vrij's will is to play in Lazio."

Reports had suggested that Lazio had given up on De Vrij in light of United's interest and had turned their attentions to Cagliari's Davide Astori but Tare says that the club are keen to acquire both defenders.

"Astori wants to come too and we're talking with Cagliari to find an agreement," he added.

The last word on his final destination still may belong to Louie. If United are really interested in him then probably player and manager already had some unofficial talks.

We're gonna find out soon.
 
He should be in the best eleven for the WC with Hummels. Yepes might get it because of his age.

The thing With Hummels is his injuries (He is the best central defender in the world for me), we don't need that in our team right now.

I have said it all along, De Vrij is the central defender we should go for. He is calm and have a fantastic anticipation, he is a joy to watch. The price we can get him for is also incredible, it could be the next Vidic/Evra buy. He could also play at a top Level for ten more years.
 
Has been pretty decent. surely a realistic option compared to Hummels.
 
Very good again today. And a MOTM contender too maybe.

He's had a very good WC along with Vlaar.

That has been a highlight for the dutch of this WC.
 
Excellent performance again today. A real shame if we are really going to get Vermaelen over him.
 
I like him a lot. He's a proper defender but has good technique and can play it t of defence too.

I'd not be at all upset if he was brought in this summer.
 
He has 1 year on his contract and is the same age as Phil Jones. You can't lose with the price he'll be - if he's not up to standards then we'll easily recoup what we pay.
 
Would be cheap and I'd take him for sure. We aren't going to sign Hummels and I don't see any other top CB that we could sign unless we spent some astronomical David Luiz type money. Get de Vrij in and let him fight it out with Evans, Smalling and Jones. If next year someone like Hummels is available or a new top CB comes on the scene then ship out whoever the weak link is.
 
He has played well in the last two games in particular but I think he benefits from having Vlaar to lead in the same way the CB's we have all played much better when playing with Rio or Vidic. If we bought him we'd have 4 Robin's and no Batman.
 
I would sign him, 1st priority to him

Not signing him would be a too big mistake.
 
One of the few dutch players I might like us to snap up. I thought we were looking for a more experienced centre half though. On the other hand if we feel that he could become a top player then we should move for him.
 
Bargain at the rumoured fee. Was one of the best centre backs on show in Brazil, good age and could really flourish into a top class CB with the right tutoring.

If we round off our window with just Blind and de Vrij and move out the likes of Evra, Anderson, Fellaini, Young & Nani I would still see that as an excellent Summer's business. Four young, hungry signings of the type that LVG is at his best developing.

De Vrij impressed me the most in the dutch defense. Vlaar is a tank but too slow, imo, and Indi too clumsy. But this guy is always spot on.

And the only one I can remember, who was not a goalie, wearing black boots. That must count for something.

Vlaar was among the 10 fastest players this world cup, Junior Diaz was the fastest with 21 mph.

But. It's the World Cup. I haven't seen nearly enough of this lad. I wouldn't positively mind us taking a punt at the fee touted, but beyond that...I dunno.
 
I don't know much about him but he looked solid enough at the WC. Would rather Martins Indi though but he went to Porto.

However if not getting De Vrij means we might get Hummels or Vermaelen then I'm okay with that.
