Stefan de Vrij

I know you post in broad generalizing strokes all the time but with no beef intended I do see Rojo being good enough to do that job. He is more physical than Blind and can play the ball out.

Absolutely. Rojo all day everyday, over Jones & Blind. He's actually quite decent on the ball when at CB too, but seems to be a cack passer when at LB - doesnt look interested playin there for us at all.

He's a tough bastard at CB - he just needs to stop ridiculously putting his body on the line all the time, when he doesnt have to..

I'm resigned to us not signing a top-class CB now, which does my napper in big time, but would be happier if LvG plays Smalling & Rojo as our CB pairing. Common-sense is another thing though..

Maybe it was just all the years with Fergie at the helm but until LvG showed up I never gave a single thought to whether a CB was right or left footed or if he could pass like Beckenbauer.

Dont get me started with this shite man. LvG's obsession with this whole left-footed CB thing is just warped - next we'll be hearing he picks his teams after discussing it with Rinus Michels via the Ouija Board ffs..

You cannot possibly suggest that Blind is first choice CB simply on pre-season.

LVG already said in his presser last night that Blind will start the season as the LCB, with the RCB position still up for grabs.

So unless he's lying, then yes, I am suggesting that.

I don't know many managers who publicly name their teams before the game, especially a tough one. I think that he's trying a bit of Fergies mind games.

That or he has actually gone batshit crazy.

May be has come on leaps and bounds last season at Lazio, but he looked very ordinary at the World cup. Was outshone by Ron Vlaar.

Yes, he is.

De Vrij was calming presence in the Lazio back-line and bought stability to the clusterfeck of a defense. He was one of the main reasons why Lazio did so well in later part of season.

Lazio have several options in defense right now. They have de Vrij, Gentiletti, Cana, Novaretti, Mauricio, Hoedt, potentially Radu, and eventually Elez (youth prospect on loan) all filling the position.

However, I don't think they will sell De Vrij. They already sold Ciani and Cana this year. Novaretti will also be sold almost for sure.

Were you saying De Vrij is better than Jones? In that case, I would agree (based on limited viewing). The way you worded it looked like you meant Blind was better than Jones :wenger:

Has LVG lied or played any mind games at United yet?

If anything, so far he's been painfully truthful. I don't seem him changing that just for the mighty Spurs.

Whats so wrong with wanying a left footed CB? If depay was left footed do you think he would be starting on the left?

It's like half the supporters who wanted di maria to play at RW, when he is not a flrward and doesnt cut on his strong foot to shoot.

If we train everyday, the way we set out on the pitch then we are already half way through to success.

We have the most tactical knowledgeable manager in the world; a left footed CB is required for more than just balance & symmetry.

So why is it of the current top CBs only a few (Chiellini is all I can think of ) are lefties? Rio + Vidic did fine as right footers... it's largely irrelevant imo except for the simplistic possession game he wants to play back there of passing it to kingdom come. A good player is a good player no matter what foot. For the actual art of defending you need two great CBs who work well together not a leftie + a rightie.

Also LvG is very knowledgeable tactically but I don't think we can say he's the best there - he's been shown up a few times last season alone in individual matches.

Yeah, I meant De Vrij is better than Jones. I don't think Blind is a central defender either.

I heard that we were after him and Felipe Anderson? I full endorse this idea! If we pull that off then we're in with a real shot at the league too, De Vrij would be a stalwart in our defence for years and would (I reckon) only improve over time (and he's already better than our defenders). Anderson is really exciting to watch and can be a real game changer. Both young and with a tonne of potential......Pay those monies Ed!

Ass served

Mega  (Sorry, don't know what it means, yet; only learned it here a few days ago ;))

Anyway, those things don't mean much. There are 100's of these arbitrary teams of the tournament; they are hardly a definitive judgement on a player's quality. Rojo & Oscar were also named in a lot of these teams and I didn't think either of them were particularly impressive.

How reliable are Corriere della sera? And where are they based in Italy?

Would be very happy with De Vrij and Felipe Anderson.

As much as I think LvG is occasionally nuts I do think Blind could be a good solution against only the weaker opposition. This season the defence will be well shielded with Two defensive midfielders. The weaker teams will generally come to defend. I suppose it does make sense to go with a ball player who could add numbers in midfield whilst midfielders ghost into the opposition Third.

Even if he does see Blind as first choice he'll probably change his mind/tactics/team selection 5 or 6 times by October

Ridiculous considering Smallish really improved last year and was far and away our best CB

It's almost like LVG is on the wind up sometimes
