Stargate Universe

Cant wait!!!

I need my scifi fix...stargate is our only hope since there's nothing else. jj abrams has fecked the whole trek universe and there's not even a fake rumour of a new trek series.

* Planet blows up because of the firepower of 3 hataks ? A dozen hataks couldn't even dent an ori ship and our 304 destroyed the same ori ship with 2-3 shots with our uber asgard beams.

Did we ever find a decent explanation for this?...ey?

There is no way any amount of hataks could bring down something as big and mighty as Craig Fagan. In fact if earth is ever in trouble, I'm sending him to fight for us, Barmby can hold his hand and offer him company.

I think the chain reaction that caused the planet to explode was due to the amount of power required to dial Destiny...

I say that because in ep 19 or 20 when the LA board destiny from their base (on that planet similar to icarus) the planet also exploded shortly after the connection had been made and i dont think that planet had anyone firing on them

Right so some more extended thoughts

I like the larger and more varied cast. It means that I don't have to spent most of the episode concentrating on that moron Lt Scott or Greer. Colonel Young is pretty cool, as is Eli (who looks like one of my politics tutors from first year uni a while back). Rush interesting, although obviously at the end of episode 10
he gets abandoned on that planet by Young. I'm going to assume that's not the end of him
.

The writing has been largely good - the only episode that's bugged me (no pun intended) has been the one with the alternate timelines and the bugs in the jungle. Mainly because twice
they were all like OH NOES EVERYONE R DEAD - HA WE tricked you it's just an alternate timeline, but then didn't show the resolution in the real timeline

Overall suprisingly not crap. I'm an SG1 man through and through so I wasn't sure if I'd like this, but it's reminding me of Firefly crossed with SG1 - in a good way

why are you still using spoilers ? its been months since season 1 ended!

Something that's annoying me is them completely neglecting the part where they held the Destiny up by maintaining an active wormhole with it by having someone put their arm into the event horizon to stop the ship jumping.

At the moment Eli Chloe Griir and Scott are trapped underground and theyre all like OMG WE HAVE 40 MINUTES TO SAVE THEM BEFORE jump. They could just get someone to dial the gate and hold it open

When does this start back up? Must be soon no?

Starts tonight, i have no idea on the time.

I thought the same thing when i watched it the first time round. Classic tv rule - never use the same idea twice

I've really enjoyed the opening two episodes of this season... but i hear there is talk about it getting cancelled due to poor ratings :(

Do you mean that they havent got enough material to take it past 2 seasons or it wont get renewed?

Personally i like the direction they are going in and if it were to get cancelled id be really pissed

I like the direction and I see lots of potential. But in some ways its been a bit slow moving, they could do with stepping it up and fast.

Ratings arent really a reflection of whether a show is good or not, there's loads of American shows that went on for series after series and are absolute shit. And other really good shows which didnt last long. Having said that, if they do something epic this series then hopefully there should be a spike in the ratings and keep it going a bit longer.

Very true but at the same time sci-fi were happy to cancel SG1 and SGA when ratings started to slip. Problem i see is they moved it from Friday (where ratings were pretty good) to Tuesday where it nose dived, i dont live in america so i dont know what the line up is like on other channels on tuesday but it does seem puzzling why they would change the day it airs when it was doing well before

I have it on good authority (promo) that the next episode will be lets say what we expect from stargate!

Yup, what appears to be a ....

Gate factory! saw the promo and sneak peak and i have to say im really really excited about it

How has young managed to stay in command even now ? rush doesn't deserve to lead but atleast he can make the tough calls.

i think rush wasn't imagining his wife or franklin...it was either the ship trying to communicate with him or franklin himself.

lets hope rush and young dont waste half the episode arguing on what to do when they dock with the seeder ship :(

I think the whole Young/Rush dynamic works really well, or i like it. On one hand you have this leader who is trying to keep morale up and think of the bigger picture in relation to the well-being of his crew which leads him to making bad decisions but then you have Rush who can make the harder calls but in the end is only in it for himself. So even though you question Youngs leadership you have to think 'would we be better off with Rush?' Personally the only reason i watched the early parts of season 1 was because of Rush! Hes like Locke from lost but in space, theres something not right with him but you cant help but like him

I think any arguements they have now will be about Rush working out how to control destiny and not telling anyone! But in the last ep Rush said something like "i was right, this ship was called Destiny for a reason"... cant wait to find out what that reason is!

 I said as much on the previous page.

Young is still in charge because of the military personell - they wouldn't follow anyone else.

Something that I really like about the series is that apart from the blue aliens, Rhona Mitra, and Rhona Mitras second in command you can kind of see the point of view of everyone - there are no intrinsically bad characters

Camile Rai - you can see her point, the military is subject to civilian oversight in Earth and if they're going to be in space for months and months this should probably apply in space too

Lucian Alliance - they've got a point, Destiny doesn't belong to us at all, and really they've got as much right as we do to be there (they somewhat ruined this point by making Kiva and her second in command psychopaths). From memory when they came through the gate she offered Young something of a cohabitation of the ship between us and them and he went to conflict instead - it was really dark and a good bit of writing.

I highly doubt that's the last we'll see of
Telford

Yeah it does seem unlikely, overall i was a little disappointed by that episode but it sets things up for the season - namely Rush disappearing everytime something bad happens only for it be resolved...

Also please give it a rest with the 2 minute closing montages, you do it a few times in a series (like intervals of 5) and it highlights what people are feeling, do it after every episode and it loses its appeal

I really hate that it has become one of those shows that has to close out every episode with some emotional song.

Anyway while I found the episode entertaining in hindsight it was pointless. They didn't learn anything, they didn't achieve anything, the plot hasn't been advanced beyond
there are aliens we know absolutely nothing about but are seemingly not pricks unlike the blue fellows, and Telford is stuck with them
. We already knew Rush had control of the ship.

Also,
it seems it won't be the last we see of Telford - imdb has him down for another two appearances

Yeah we knew Rush has control over the ship but i was pointing more towards "why he hasnt told anyone" "what was the mission he discovered destiny was on"

About the aliens i get the feeling that maybe they are crew of the seeder ships, the Ancients made them to maintain the ship as they only seemed to come into play when the ships power was activated. Would explain why they only stunned Rush in the control room because to them it seemed like he was damaging the ship and they reversed the power transfer because they had to maintain the seeder ships power levels.

That or they are related to the blue aliens (perhaps at war with them) and have a fasination with Ancient tech and found that ship.

Telford i think was always going to return when they didnt show him die as the aliens didnt look very hostile

Agree particularly with the last sentiment there. It's a nice tool to use every now and then, not every other episode.

Yes i agree....i was like not this again. Having it every episodes takes away the emotion the writers are trying to portray.

have you been reading gateworld ? because thats the theory doing the rounds there!

I think the only connection these aliens have with the ancients is that they're somehow on an ancient ship! The seeder ships weren't supposed to have crews...all the systems were automated to build gates and place them on suitable planets. Yes there are controls on the ship which one could say proves the ship was designed to have a crew but i think the ancients built that so they could man the ship later on if they desired too. Some are even claiming that these aliens are ancients themselves who have evolved over the millions of years due to being stuck on the ship :wenger:

We've not seen the last of telford, the seeder ship or the brown aliens.

Hey i came up with that on my own! But i think i better head over to that site if they discuss SG!

I was really disappointed with a few aspects of the episode, instead of having the whole "power transfer to get them home" arc they could have added something more about the seederships origin. Maybe they will discuss it later but i think it was a missed opportunity to established/answer a few questions i (and i assume other fans) have always had about the gates.
