Spurs officially departed tonight

Honestly bizzare. I checked a Tottenham forum the other day and the majority backed him still, my word are they in for a shock.

Can't blame them, we've all been there. It's tragic when you see it from afar though.

Not true. Watched the game, Spurs couldn't hold the ball for more than 5 seconds. Couldn't handle Leipzig's pressing at all. I think they crossed the halfway line twice all game.

Fair enough. I noticed that Spurs were nullified with the ball but they looked average overall when defending, but as they were relying too much on individual marking things went downhill fast.

I mean his assistant Rui Faria looks more and more a footballing genius as each game progresses. Since they parted ways Mourinho has struggled massively.
I remember when he was incharge for a few games and we looked refreshingly good. Dont know if that makes any sense though

You just can’t play that way if you want to me a team who wins titles. If you invite pressure you’re going to concede. He did this when he was here to, go a goal up then sit back & wait to concede.

If both teams took their chances Liverpool would have slaughtered Spurs

Kane and Bergwijn should of scored. If either had Spurs would of sat back and won.

Really impressed with Hojberg every time I see him play.

They probably could have nicked that. Team set up was decent, and the Kane chance was a free header.

They did take their chance in the first half, and scored.

In the moments that mattered they stumbled. Liverpool meanwhile looked more composed and pressure paid off.

Spurs just don't look like a title-winning side. But I don't think Mourinho even expected they'd progress as quickly as they have done. Top four favourites though.

They could have easily lost by 4 or 5 on another day. I can't wait to see Kane and Son after a season of these Mourinho tactics. How long before they start getting disillusioned?

Spurs probably had the two best chances but Liverpool were dominant and its hard to say didn't deserve it. Time and time again they find a way, its admirable. They just never give in.

I'd think he knows what he's doing.

Some of these comments are ridiculous.

They need others to score goals now. The pressure on Kane and Son must be mind blowing

I didn't watch the game but if there's a team in the league equipped to go at that makeshift Liverpool defence it's Spurs

Disappointing

Typical Spurs throwing it away at the end.
Typical Liverpool horribly taking advantage of a club with a small mentality.

Thought we played well tonight and coped with Liverpool especially in the second half - need to take those chances though and was harsh to lose it in the end.

Reminds me of when we went to Anfield and parked the bus.

The players might start to become disillusioned with his methods now.
I doubt it. While I don't think Spurs were that impressive they had those two chances that they can look back on as being pivotal.

They had 2 one on ones with Allison in the 2nd half and Kane had a free header inside the 6 yard box.

Should put all the silly title talk right where it belongs. Bottom of the skip.

Decent team with two great players and in-form keeper and negative manager. They defend well but I think they'll drop off. Son won't remain on this level for the entire season.

Not sure if we watched the same game if you think that - Liverpool scored one flukey goal with a deflection and had nothing but half chances until the header at the end. They had a lot of the possession in first half but didn't penetrate us that much.

How many did Liverpool miss in the first half? The game could easily have been over by half-time.
They had a couple of half chances that they scuffed straight down the throat of the keeper and scored a horribly deflected spawny goal. I don't remember them going one on one with Lloris or missing any headers 5 yards out.

Absolutely sickening we just can't seem to beat that lot. They have already won against us mentally even before the game has even started.

To 4 is as good as they can expect on their squad/resources. I know the Spurs fans will go on about how good the squad is but I dont see anything many outstanding players bar Son+Kane. If Jose gets top 4 plus a cup that it will be a good achievement to be fair.

Sometimes against a better team it is better to sit back, invite pressure and hit on the counter attacking. Going toe to toe would likely mean you get slaughtered, some people don't seem to understand that.

You are correct about Mourinho and about the absurdity of some posters attacking his tactics.

Thank you for being one of the few to acknowledge that.

Really? Before they scored the 1st deflection, it was a matter of when, not if. Their pressure was relentless, you couldn't string 2 passes together for 99% of the 1st half. You really didn't see it coming?

Your performance was nothing I had never seen before from us under Jose in the big games. If you keep giving the ball away, inviting pressure on the edge of your own box, something will give eventually.

He chose the right tactics but at the end of the day such tactics have a glass ceiling in terms of what they can accomplish.

Not sure I would call them half chances. Thought Jones, Salah and Mane all had good opportunities that they fluffed straight at the keeper.

None as good as the Kane and Bergywn chance but thought they created plenty of chances, particularly in the first half.

Jose's tactics are such fine margins, if they take one of their great chances early in that second half, you fancy them to at least get a draw. But they didn't, they end up having to just desperately hold on and in the end crumble.

First half sure, though they didnt have clear cut chances even with all that pressure - second half we matched them and could have won it.

@balaks this reminds me of the 2-1 at Anfield last season or the one before, where they just kept on cranking up the pressure until they scored. This was under Porch.

They are a pain to play against thats for sure and they are so good you get punished with any mistakes.
