Spurs 2018/19

This is why I 'love' Spurs! :D Imagine the United meltdown losing three in a row! I hope Spurs get Europa League football this season. Will be interesting to see what they do in January. Reckon they'll be all out for our Tony.

No better time for Ed Woodward to swoop in for the people’s choice. Playing beautiful football.

Since it would be hypocritical to leave my position based on a bad patch of form, I still mantain that Poch is a top class manager and that he would be an improvement over what several top clubs have. Madrid, Bayern, United, Arsenal, Barca, they all would benefit from having him.

I haven't seen Spurs play this poorly for years now, there is no rhythm to their football. Don't know who you can lay the blame on, their key players look tired, Pochettino looks out of ideas when things aren't going his way and Levy the genius/conman for some reason decided not to strengthen their squad.

Half of their team stayed at the World Cup until the final weekend and then had to report back within 3 weeks. That’s on top of playing majority of last season because they have little depth outside defense. They needed more forwards and midfielders just to make up numbers and let Kane, Eriksen etc. rest but somehow did not get any.

The insistence on playing possession out from the back is weird when I always feel they look better when they play a bit more direct and try to get it up the pitch quicker. Them switching tactics and doing that to us in the 2nd half resulted in their 1st goal directly and their 2nd goal directly with Eriksen making a run down the channel on the right flank before squaring.

No idea what Winks was doing on that 2nd goal, but he played Vecino on.

Thank god I'm currently in Australia and the strange time difference and work has meant that I've missed 2 of the last 3 cluster fecks.

Big crisis at Spurs. 3 losses already this season. Poor form and playing badly. The manager unable to get the best out of his star player.

Who should go?

Pochettino OUT or Kane OUT?

At the moment we just can't do it. There's no point in playing out from the back if your players aren't confident on the ball, all it does is encourage the opposition. All of our players at the moment are taking heavy touches, playing passes too short, playing their teammates in to trouble etc. I just don't think the backline is settled at the moment, and I think losing Lloris is a big part of that, I know he gets a lot of criticism on here (unfairly, imo) but he's still a very good keeper, far better than Vorm. He instils confidence.

Winks is having the exact same troubles I was concerned about. He's only just coming back from injury and really shouldn't be coming in to games like this, certainly not starting vs Liverpool. He's still very much young and learning, but we're going to be reliant on him because we decided to sign nobody. It all comes back to exactly what I was saying in the summer, we needed big investment in to our midfield. I'm a broken record here really, but I honestly can't believe any Spurs fan was content with not even bringing in a single player here. Did any of us really think Winks, Dier, Wanyama and Dembele was enough, either in terms of quality or reliability? 3 out of 4 have recently had bad injury issues, and Dier is plain average, with Dembele being 31 with serious fitness issues.

The amount of pointless possession we're getting right now is unreal, and it's simply because we lack any quality from deep. Players like Dier/Dembele are fine, but they are content to pass it sideways constantly, so when both are starting you end up just lacking any penetration at all. How much we rely on Eriksen is being painfully exposed game by game, tonight the only time we saw any quality on the ball was when he received it (usually surrounded by Inter players because obviously opposition managers have worked that out) or when Lucas came on and was direct.

Is this really a patch or a pattern for a serial loser?

Poch looking as clueless as they come now. Spurs are the consummate bottlers. Winning one-off games vs. high profile teams is the pinnacle for them right now. Pathetic.

How about neither?

Pochettino came out and told the club he needed signings, and he needed them early. I'm not about to start pointing the finger at him when the club decided not only to ignore his request, but then decided to bring in nobody full stop. The blame lies with Levy and the board, who decided to ignore the manager who consistently has us in the CL, simply because they decided that saving money was more important than backing the manager.

Poch has made mistakes, undoubtedly. But I doubt many managers in the league could keep a team looking excellent season after season with practically zero investment, even the best teams who actually win trophies invest so that things don't become stale. We won nothing and decided not to spend, that isn't on Poch.

As for the Kane stuff, under Poch he became the best striker in the league, so I don't get your point. It's obvious his bad form is nothing to do with the manager, aside from perhaps needing to give him a rest.

People are making fun of Pochettino now? You guys forgotten Levy didn't invest a penny this summer? Poch is doing the best he can with what he has to work with and yes they have had a bad run the last 3 games but am I wrong or did they not humiliate us at OT around 3 weeks ago? I don't think it's warranted to take shots at Poch they are very dependant on Kane but he looks completely knackered atm but I believe not signing any players this summer will cost them and that is not on Poch it's on Levy.

Its a pattern for a serial loser to lose 3 in a row for the first time in his 5 years at Spurs?

I'm not sure you understand what pattern means.

People think he would come here and suddenly win trophies, suddenly come out on top tactically in the biggest games, suddenly make the correct in game decisions . He has improved that Tottenham team to a certain point but he can do no more. That would not be enough here, people need to wake up.

Chelsea’s 3 best players so far this season: Hazard, Giroud, Kante were in the World Cup right till the end. They are firing Chelsea to 1st playing same amount of games so that’s not an excuse really.

Giroud and Hazard haven't played every single minute as Chelsea actually have some squad depth.

Kante I think is out of the Park school of having three lungs.

This is what happens when you rely only on improvement from within. Spurs do that really well but there has to be a balance.

You’re too sensible for this thread. @balaks @InLevyITrust @GlastonSpur will demand more delusion.

What delusion?? We’re 5 feckings games into the campaign... last night was the same old story for us game management was shite, same thing at Juve last year, a coach who is tactically slow on the uptake. 2 goals in 7 minutes. Criminal not too see out the game..... again.

He can do no more when the club don't buy a single player in the summer that's pretty clear to see. Is that Poch's fault?

How many players did have proper rest after world cup? Remember few players came bit early for preseason and many didnt even have preseason.

Lloris, Trippier, Toby, Vertonghen, Dembele, Dier, Alli, Kane all played in semi fianls/finals of the world cup. Then you have players like Eriksen who played in R16 or QFs, Son played in world cup and then in Asia cup.

So maybe lack of preseason is hurting their chances. Will be interesting to see how they cope up in the next few months with 3 games in a week schedule.

I'm sure that is not helping.

Also Kane is not helping either. He comes back early from injury to win his personal trophy, then wants to play without preseason to win golden boot. Goal obsession is good for strikers but it can kill his career early if he doesn't rest properly.

I think that is a bit unfair on him - the team have not exactly helped him much by creating chances. I can't blame the guy for being ultra-competitive and target driven as it is part of what makes him such a great player.

Poch is a bit tense. What's the purpose of arguing with the media. You lost, deal with it. Not a great start to the season by them at all.

He is a passionate guy and is just as frustrated as all the fans - to be honest if I had been interviewed right after the match I probably would have ended up headbutting somebody

Yeah I get that. Has a lot on his mind. Things don't look well.
