Sporting Club de Man United watch

The more I watched the game the more I realised there is no way the United players can match the intensity, focus and distance covered by the sporting players today.
Yeah i had the same thought. Imagine the likes of Rashford etc showing this kind of desire and intensity

Well, no. We don't have that power and dynamism in midfield. We don't have that physicality up front and we don't have years of working under this manager and he's joining without a pre-season straight into a two match a week schedule. So in my view, the first few months will be a free hit. This team is not suited to working this hard. But some players might actually surprise us and really find their fire, I'm hoping anyway.

If we look in to Liverpool and city, all of their players work like mad men. I think that this is the first priority of the modern game. Those who will be unable to match the intensity must be shown the door.

Great stuff.
Why the feck was Noel Gallagher on commentary? Delighted he had to mope over that. Cheating pricks

Agree. The ones who can't match the intensity and fitness needed should be moved on.

You can't have half the team playing with intensity and the other half assing it and holding us back.

You'll be surprised at what some man management, motivation and belief can do for players

Any player that doesn't press, fight and run like the Sporting players tonight should be sold immediately. No sympathy for our lazy players anymore.

Well fans won’t be saying that if he buys players in, even these same players and they don’t replicate this form for us…then it’s back to blame the manager again time..

But why can't they? Is it not more of a case of them not wanting to, rather than being physically incapable.
I really don't know. You can tell something is off when just in terms of intent we play differently after conceding. The one outstanding example is the way the team rallied in that game when Onana saved a pen.
Even if by accident, a club the size of United should eventually get the tangibles right, but the intangibles are what's most worrying to me. Our lack of basic team cohesion comes in stark contrast to other teams.
Too often I feel we lack altruism, focus, courage...

What changes when a player joins United? They usually triple their wage. Maybe someone at the club will cotton on to that eventually and see how that affects motivation

All I can hope for really. Hopefully our players tuned-in to this game to get a preview of their new manager, and believe that he can get them to their full potential as a team and individually.
The Sporting win at least got me to feel pretty bright.

The players clearly love Amorim. Seems such a good coach and person.

Amorim’s biggest challenge will be midfield, I agree, but not up front.
Have you seen our forwards. He may get a tune out of Hojlund but our wide players are useless and don’t work hard enough. They’re also selfish at times.

Hasn't the midfield been an issue since Scholes retired? Technically, I'd also say we never really replaced Hargreaves... But yes, particularly in the modern game, the midfield has to at least be on the same wavelength.

Easy with the hype. We still need to see him do it here, but I do think this will be the turning point we look back on in ten years as the beginning of City’s downfall and a new golden era for United under Amorehim.

Sure, but I think he’ll get Garnacho disciplined quite quickly. Dunno of course.

Hope so. Hope he does similar to what he’s done with that Quenda, he’s only 17, he’s a forward but he had him playing in one of the wingback roles.

My favourite part was Noel Gallagher having to watch his team get stuffed.

If he's as good as he seems then he'll love our squad. The biggest issue is attitude and having a coach that you are desperate to play for changes that pretty quickly.

There's a few that aren't technical enough, but most players in our squad have played at really high levels in the not too distant past. Similar to how a lot of them look much better for their countries than for us.

Was Hargreaves ever fit long enough to warrant being replaced? worse injury record than Shaw and Saha combined

I am genuinely drawing a blank here. Bruno and Martinez are decent for their national teams I guess... But whom do you have in mind?

haha, fair enough. But wasn't the idea to deploy Carrick and Scholes alongside a technical 6?

From memory I don’t think he even played in midfield much, usually out wide or at RB?

Carrick was a technical 6.

We played 442 back then. Scholes + Carrick deep in the middle, wingers high and Rooney/Tevez pressing the front.

Hojlund is roughly 1 in 2 for Denmark, Rashford looks much better for England when selected than he has lately for us. Bruno and Dalot as you said. Mainoo slotted straight into England this summer and made them look miles better than they had previously. Even players such as Maguire look great for England.

I am pretty convinced that because we've been managed as a shambles the players look a lot worse than they actually are. Get a proper tactical plan in place, give the players defined roles that play to their strengths and we'll start to see progress.

In his only season worth talking about he mostly started in midfield. I believe only the Barcelona CL semi he started at right back and the final he started right mid.

It's hard to believe this is the same club that gave us Bruno and Rivaldo. Thank you Sporting CP.

City extend their unbeaten run in the CL yet again! with only 2 defeats.
