Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Wow, this episode might rival last season's finale fro me. It was amazing!

Ah, still as full of gore and tits as ever.

Good start to the show.

Although I do think it's just not quite the same without Andy Whitfield in it, he was such a great main character. Doesn't bode well for series 2 :(

I don't miss him at all. This show is all about John Hannah.

John Hannah is great, I do agree, but I didn't think the 2nd season would struggle without him. They still have good cnutish characters in Lucretia and Ashur there, and I'm sure they'll find someone new. The bit that concerns me is that they have to replace their main actor, who I like and think has done a great job. I hope I'm wrong but I think it'll be downhill from here on in.

Just started rewatching Rome, because I'm in the epic mood at the moment. Must say, Spartacus is great fun and all, but bloody hell Rome was just on an entirely different level. One of the greatest TV shows I've ever watched.

brilliant show, its a shame that they only ever made one season!!!

what kind of clunge was on display in that mate?

Well it doesn't have the same amount of ridin' or violence as Spartacus (does anything?) but it can still show a fair bit of bush at times, and some of the fight scenes are absolutely stunning. It's far more realistic, has a far, far larger budget (which is why it only got the 2 seasons unfortunately) and much better acting.

It's a superior series in every way really, that's no disrespect to Spartacus, it's great fun, but Rome is genuinely 2 of the greatest seasons of television ever made. Especially the first. They had to rush the second season quite a bit because the show was intended to be 4 or 5 seasons long so they had to jam the whole thing into that.

cheers. will take a gander.

Could someone send me a link to this series. The link in the OP doesn't seem to work

Also may the curse of the pharaohs be upon those who blah blah. Its devious to want to download stuff blah blah.

Good episode that. Batiatus had some great lines as always.

I recall in Blood & Sand he said "one again the gods spread cheek to ram cock in fecking ass". And in this he said "finally the gods have closed cheek and taken cock out of fecking ass"

More sex, more blood, more treason and filth than before.
It's very interesting to see how things evolves knowing how the story started in "blood and sand".
That Tullius is one evil motherfecker

Gatticus allowed to go free. First kind of happy ending in that show.
Can't wait for new season.

It was great in every way. I was wondering how the hell they'd tie everything up and explain everything leading up to the 1st series but they did it very well.

I expected Gannicus to escape seeing as
he's been confirmed for season 2, which is great because I thought he was a very good character and leaves a good plotline open for him an Doctore (never remember his name)

John Hannah was awesome as always. The fight was magnificent, best they've ever done I think, one thing I wonder after it though
Crixus was undefeated until Spartacus came along right? I find it strange that this wasn't considered defeat as there could only be one 'winner'. Sounds like a bit of a cop from the writers.

I'm looking forward to season 2 I guess, but it's going to be tough without John Hannah (the shows best character) and Andy Whitfield (a great lead), here's hoping it can deliver. I also think it's going to be a bit shitty that (quite a big spoiler regarding characters in S2)
Lucretia will be back. Didn't really like Lucy Lawless character, I thought Lucretia was a far better (and hotter) female character than her.

Anyway, good mini series that never quite reached the heights that series 1 did, but it was nice to not have to full on wait 2 years for season 2.

Bit confused about the spoiler bit

How can she be coming back if she was murdered in season 1? And Lucy Lawless was Lucretia so what do ya mean about the 2nd part?

That last battle was immense!

Did you see her die? Or you assumed that she had to die?

This doesn't make any sense ???

I'm on episode 11 now. This is a suprisingly good show.

It looks like the awful 300 but crucially this show is not made by a total fecking idiot. It mixes the wonderfully low brow visceral stuff; the blood, the sex, the language, with deceptively smart writing - the whole class and status angle of the show is extremely well observed. It also has a depth and detail to the design that isn't at first obvious, with all that CGI blood and the excessive digital palette. But crowd and set details always look interesting.

Lucy lawless and John Hannah are terrific as the dominus and domina couple. And Viva Bianca is outrageous as the conniving Ilithyia. It's a shame that the show starts off so slow and hollow because it soon gets good and then just gets better and better.

Was that Gannacus briefly in that trailer? The James Dean of these series. Would love to see him team up with Sparta and Crixus.
