Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Wonderful finale. The show has been superb since around the 4th episode, one of the best things on TV.

I'm glad Ilythia and Ashur got away, they were both excellent characters. They need to keep some of the characters for season 2, so it was a good idea.

What a finale. Absolutely brilliant.

I just wished Batiatus didn't have to die. Loved his character and the dialogues. Oh well.

Yeah, but it was always going to happen. His dialogue was superb at times, I thought John Hannah just played him perfectly.

I just loved the way everything that had happened throughout the season came to fruition, from the murder of the big gay guy which convinced Doctore to help them, to Varros wife murdering the little kid etc. That's why 13 episode shows are just so much better than 20 - 24 episode shows.

I know the show was signed for another year but I wonder if it will really happen. The way the last episode ended and the health of the main actor makes me doubt it. So many plot lines were completed. There are still a few hanging out there but not many.

This show has got better and better! Can't wait for the next season.

If those voting for awards are brave, this show will "Win them all".
I am the only one who likes Ashur? That guy will survive the Armageddon

I thought it was the worst thing I had seen for a very long time. John Hanna looked embarrassed but well paid. It was on such heavy rotation on Showtime when I was working in the US that I gave it a good go bit just couldn't bear it.

Rome was excellent.

nah im a fan of Ashur too, he's brilliant!! the finale was great,

he really did kill them all !!! i wish he killed that blonde bitch (forgot her name) i fecking hate her, but they need to have a villain for season 2 and i reckon her and her husband will take that role.

hope the main actor recovers and they shoot the 2nd season!!! can't wait!!

Bump.

I've been watching this on Bravo for the past few weeks. Just finished the Pits episode, great stuff this, I've enjoyed it right from episode 1!

bump,

Hmm, so I watched the recent episode on Wednesday, got a little hooked. I've now just finished Episode 13! You're in for a treat, each episode raises the bar!

Damn, that was such a great ending. So much depth, great writing, fantastic dialogue and damn the tension when you go into episode 13! Theres some real potential too for season 2. The main roman villain with the blond wife, is that Haldir from Lord of the Rings (the blond elf that dies at Helms Deep)?

It also seems that our prays to the gods have been noted. In June 2010 Perezhilton.com announced that Whitfield (Spartacus) completely finished with his treatment, has a clean bill of health and is expected to be back on the set of Spartacus: Blood and Sand by October.

It does seem odd that season 2 will be a prequel series. Still gutted about Andy Whitfield's cancer though, hopefully we'll see him back in s3. It really is a great show though, loved the first season.

has to be done unfortunately, they have the set sitting there and they don't want to be wasting money, I guess it was the only viable option, anyway, it gives us another chance to see John hannah throwing amazing lines around, such as

"once again the gods spread cheeks to ram cock in feckING ASS!"

Word is that Whitfield may need to be replaced, which would be a huge shame.

Technically, it won't. The second season is due for Sept 2011, the 6 episode prequel coming out in Jan isn't actually a season.

Whitfield makes an appearance during the prequel but he'll be recast for S2.

Downloaded and saw this in HD just the other week. I loved it. Lots of blood, good fighting, good plot and interesting characters.

I thought John Hannah as Baiatus was pretty cool.

Is the idea to make the season 2 without Spartacus as a prequel, and then hope for Whitfield to get healthy in order to make a third about the slave uproar and coming war with Rome? That would be ace.

Nope. The prequel isn't season two. I can't remember the full thinking behind it but basically the writers/directors/producers (etc) realised that Whitfield's cancer would at least delay season two. From there they took an episode or two from before the first season and stretched it into six episodes. They tell the tale of how the Batiatus ludus gained strength. In reality, they're there to tide us over until season two starts, sometime in Sept/Oct 2011 I believe.

Because of Whitfield's situation, Spartacus is going to be recast, this is confirmed.

Ok, that is likely to be pretty shit. I hate recasts.

Ah, still as full of gore and tits as ever.

Good start to the show.

Although I do think it's just not quite the same without Andy Whitfield in it, he was such a great main character. Doesn't bode well for series 2 :(

"Words come out of your mouth like shit from ass." Damn what a quote.

Interesting seeing how he became Batiatus became what he was in season 1.
Good character. Humble beginnings of Crixus too.
