Was racism and homophobia waived when used in art or something? Those are truly shocking lyrics.
I remember when that came out and it was pretty controversial at the time and much talked about and debated. Unsurprisingly the people I remember defending it at the time turn out to be hardcore Tea Party types (and most likely hardcore Trumpers but I don't even share friends of friends with them on Facebook anymore). It did cause a ton of controversy in an era when Gordon Gecko was still seen as a hero and controversy, even like that, some thought was good publicity. Really emblematic of the era.
