Good squad player but no thanks, would cost more than his ability
Really? He would be upgrade on any option we have on the left but that is your opinion. We would be getting damn good player. A player with good workrate and ability level above Ji Sung Park...

But that rumour is just bullshit because he would cost fortune and we certainly don't need another LW

This is the adidas website in Korea. It's the spark we've been looking for!

He can defer military service until he is in his 30's I believe. Remember reading that somewhere but can't remember source.

So if he retires at 32-35, and being a professional athlete, he can prove his fitness then that's probably the solution to it all.
It has to be finished before 35 and they're a two year conscription. I may be wrong, but I think once someone hits 29 and the get summoned for military service, they can't defer it any more.

Brilliant player but I think at times he can be a bit inconsistent and can quite often make the wrong decision without getting his head up. Saying that he is still only 25 and doesn't turn 26 till next month, and is very good with both feet but I'm not sure how good he is on the right wing? He mainly plays on the left for Spurs where he seems to be at his best.

Only would sign him if he was to be used as a RW, would prefer him over someone like Willian but the issue is dealing with Levy...

Someone on Reddit did a huge breakdown of Son's situation: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/8tmqhn/long_post_ive_attempted_a_breakdown_of_spurs/

Basically - Bayer Leverkusen really screwed him (and the transfer fee they got for him) by not releasing him for the 2014 Asia Games which Korea won. Korea has cracked down hard on all of the exemptions and loopholes which have been used in the past, and Son is not going to get some special treatment just for being famous ... maybe especially because he is famous.

Worse, since he left at such a young age to go to Germany he never graduated Korean high school, so he's not even qualified to serve in the military (aka - play for the military football team). He'll be a civil servant and get stuck in a 9-5 desk job or something and have to play Sunday league football.

So ... basically Korea has to win the Asia Games this summer (which means Son will miss the start of the PL season) or his career is effectively over by 2020.

Why has no one brought up his national service yet and acted like they know all about it?

He's 100% looking to squeeze as much out of Levy as he possibly can with the new deal by having his agent link him with utd. Levy had no interest selling us a defender they don't need in Alderweireld so it's outrageous to think he'll sell us one of their most important players.

Exactly. I very much doubt after hitting a brick wall over Alderweirald that we would even consider going back to Spurs for another player.

Let alone the mess that his military service issue is.

I might be in the minority here but I wouldn't mind a Martial - Son swap.

Me either. Martial shows little consistency. Might have loads of talent but little use if you don’t have right mentality to show it. Son a very good and effective player. More effective than Martial.

I believe the same game said that he could possibly get it deferred to the end of his career due to his high profile short span career. But then also said there would be huge backlash from kpop fans.

He's a very good player but no way should any move be made before the civil servant stuff is cleared up.

This player will not be signing for us.

Lock the thread.

He's not better than an in form Sanchez, Martial or Rashford

He's a brilliant player. Don't see it happening but a player of his quality would be welcome at our club.

He's twice the player of Martial.

Son isn't just a left winger, he's a threat from all over. Pochettino doesn't play wingers he plays all over. Doesn't cry that he can't be effectual on the right hand side for example just gets on with it, Son is a good player.

If he's twice the player Martial is why are Spurs wanting to replace him?..... with Martial

The most underrated player at Spurs by other fans.
Would love to see him at United but not at the cost of giving them Martial.

If they're actually doing that they are astoundingly stupid and we should be laughing our cocks off.

The only problem with Son is the military service situation.

He's not underrated but given how much he would cost there are much better players out there

I'd love another Korean here but, even though he's good, he's not what we need and, in my opinion, isn't better than Martial.

Spurs aren’t wanting to replace him with Martial. They want to sign Martial and have Son.

Only one of them will play though and it'll be Martial

EDIT: Well it wont because they're not signing Martial but you get my point

It would be a fair enough straight swap for martial, assuming he can get his military service deferred/excused. People are talking about him only playing on the left but he's very two footed and would probably play well on the right. It would be a huge risk signing a player who has the very real possibility of being out of the game for two years though.

No, you've to enlist by the time you're 30.

Why is this even a thread?
We have as much chance as signing Eriksen

in form Son scores a goal or two every game. He is definitely a starter for top4 team. Martial and rashford are very iinconsistent and sanchez plays not even like a half of a player he was at arsenal. Son is a real deal but no chance we are signing him niether we need him

I'd take him if Martial's off. Clinical as feck, and puts a shift in. His purple patches are world class.

He has a terrific engine.
Sprinting the length of the pitch in the 96th minute .

When you think about it, it's a very progressive system this. Definitely increases my opinion of South Korea. Not.

Thanks for explaining the situation though.

I think the whole military service thing would be scrapped if their best player went to the most popular club in all of Asia. That being said, I think this is just a bit of theatre before he signs a new deal.
It unquestionably would not.

I would think he could take a high school equivalency test for this purpose, if it comes to it. I imagine Sangju Sangmu would make sure everything that can done is done on that front. But really, if he plays, Korea really should win.

What a lot of shite, no way any club would stack up the money it would need for him only to risk losing him for 2 years. Plus it’s not like you need any more left side attacking players.

30 league goals in 99 games doesn't quite match your math.

Footballers are an exception and have to go when they're 28. So, unless he wins those Asian games...

Far more credit to the guy who pressured and tackled Neuer and then set Song free for a tap in, Se-Jong
