Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

How did you come up with that?

We’ve just bid 70M for Maguire!

We’re one of the richest clubs in the world, I really don’t understand how people can come up with such imaginary scenarios and paint them out to be fact.

We’re likely to be in talks with both Bruno and Maguire and hopefully Longstaff, so there’s 3 signings there - which makes 5

Lukaku is most likely out the door & Ole says he’ll be replaced.

Still 3 weeks to go. Not a lot of time. But squeaky bum time, I’m sure we’ll get them all over the line.
Bidding and getting them in here are 2 different matters. We have to get at least 2 more players before deadline. If Lukaku and Pogba go, I just hope we have replacements that we can get in straight away without haggling.

Can't believe we haven't sold a single player.

I know it's United and we love to keep hold of deadwood but I'm still surprised.
It's really baffling, I don't understand why we couldn't let wasters like Jones, Rojo, Mata, Young walk, now we're stuck with them on the books wasting money and space. Getting Sanchez out should also have been a priority.

As someone who was adamant (as many of us were/are) going into this window that RW was a major priority, I've gotta say that seeing Greenwood against senior teams has really turned my priorities around. I think he's just as big a talent as Sancho and will be a revelation if given the chance to nail the spot down this season, I hope more than anything that Ole puts faith in him.

I agree that #9 is probably his best position eventually but, a season or two at RW works for me both in terms of team contribution and personal development.

Seeing how good McTom has done at B2B has also allayed some of my concerns there, again I think he can be a big contributor this season and offer a solid option. Certainly seems a better option than Fred on current showings.

I think if we land a CB with the right attributes (Strong in the air / Winning mentality / Aggressive tackler) & an extra playmaking CM I'll personally be happy with the squad going into this season, assuming Ole transitions Gomes & Mason into Mata & Lingard respective roles. Call me a hater but I don't think either contribute anything resembling enough to be considered starters, and Lingard gets on my wick.

The glaring weakness would be at DM but I just don't think we're going to address this until next summer at the earliest, and hey you can't have it all right.

In an ideal world I'd like us to get Tah, Ndidi & Fernandes. In reality I think we'll land Maguire & Fernandes, with no direct Lukaku replacement. Longstaff will be priced out of a move.

Not great, not terrible.

The infuriating part is that we didnt prioritize the areas of need. We could have gotten by with Dalot as RB and without another forward. CM, CB and CDM were the top 3 areas that needed reinforcement. I cant believe weve lost our starting CM and have not replaced him especially with our current midfield options. Even with Pogba that's a woeful midfield. If he gets hurts then we could end up in the 2nd half of the table. Not reinforcing midfield by now is madness. And the excuse that market is overpriced shouldn't fly. Tielmans was available for 40 mil. This is just pure incompetence.
Your are right. Midfield is the heartbeat of every great team but we are.very weak in this department.

I got your point but you need to accept the reality by looking at current state of our club and how it is being run.

Ndombele recently picks spurs over us and I can’t blame him but I am sure we will bounce back as we got all the tools needed to become the greats again, Needed a spark like one or two game changing signings with few other proper signings could rejenuvate our club. Good thing is we can afford them if we are really serious about becoming the best again.

We were never seriously linked to Ndombélé.

We renewed Mata’s contract so he’s not going anywhere this window. Nobody wants the rest due to the absurd wages they are on.

But it proves we have funds to spend

Imo Pogba will stay the media frenzy has died down and it’s quiet from both camps. Though I do feel we need to win something next year, and/or get into UCL otherwise he’s gone.

Lukaku seems the more likely to leave, he’s said to be dropped for the game against Inter so, he’s likely gone

While I admit I too am frustrated at how long it seems to be taking, I feel as though we’re gonna get the players that we want.

Palace were in the same stance as Leicester are & we eventually signed AWB.

We need 2 players I agree. Could easily get to 4 more though (if lukaku goes and we also get Longstaff)

They all got new contracts this year though, my point was we shouldn't have extended them instead of rewarding their mediocrity

Over last 3 windows we've signed Fred, Dalot, Grant, James n AWB. Obviously the current window is still open but does close in 3 weeks time.

That above is simply nowhere near good enough for a club our size and for the amount of work the squad needs.

Genuinely get the feeling money is tighter at the club than they are letting on. Maybe 6 years of squandering 600m is coming back to bite us now and hard.

However it could make us turn to more youth players again which I see as a positive thing long term.

Shocking transfer window. For a team that was universally lambasted as being not good enough, we have upgraded one position. One position!. We needed to upgrade 4-5. Poor Ole is the Corporate yes man, clear as day. When asked how he plans to replace Herrera, he replied I will take Perreira and Mctominnay they can each cover different parts of that role.

Why the hell is Darmian, Rojo still at the club? Rant over. The club is a disgrace, Ed is a disgrace.

Exactly this. It feels like a lot of the links and stories are there just to fit the illusion that we have funds available with no real intention of making many signings outside of the essential. The Glazers will siphon the majority of any incoming money for themselves I suspect.

We're linked to loads of players, but are the only club that can only actually negotiate with one at a time , as slowly as possible. It seems like we know who we can actually get so we're just bidding our time to make it seem like we had big intentions but it just wasn't possible. Glazers get their money, fans accept it and put faith in Young and Jones for another season.

Ole's not got the bollocks to out the hierachy. The hierachy don't give a shit about making us competitive.

The coming season won't be much of an improvement on last season if any given the squad at the moment. Fellaini and Herrera were players that showed up.

20 days to sign a CB and two midfielders.

20 days to sell a CB, Sanchez and Matic who looks finished.

20 days to sign a striker if Lukaku is leaving. I don't trust anyone in charge to get it done. Feels all very Moyesesque.

Well you could say it feels Saf like too.

Just that we lack.top attackers which was his go too.

We had excellent defenders under Fergie he always made sure we had good defenders

Basically the club is afraid to enact wholesale changes across the defensive line and midfield which we needed.

The renewal of several contracts and lack of any sales in these positions underscore the reluctance to move forward.

Couldn’t agree more. This was the summer to make an overhaul and some sort of statement that we are refreshing the squad, but that seems clear as day it is not happening. If we are not giving youth (Gomes and Greenwood) a decent chance to replace our average players then this season will be as dull as the previous ones.

If he's not satisfied after this transfer window he should say so in press conferences and not go with the happy with the squad rhetoric. It will continue harming the team if he's just a yes man.

Then why not re-sell the tripe and get atleast some money back? Why the feck are dross like Rojo, Darmian still at the club?

It's a fair point when considering midfield. SAF didn't always have the best squad of midfielders. He did believe in the importance of a good CB partnership and killers in front of goal. At the moment we don't have either and both need to be addressed if we are to mask our poor midfield successfully.

We can't be poor at CB, CM and ST and expect to compete. Any such expectation would be ludicrous.

We always play the kids every pre season and then you never see them again. They are there to fill up the numbers. I cant see Tuanzebe getting many chances because the club will continue to play Smalling, Jones, Bailly. Likewise I cant see Gomes getting many chances as we ill continue to play Mata, Lingard. I could possibly see Greenwood getting some matches but again he will be behind the usual suspects.

If the club are not going to sign anymore players, then please Ole show the balls and play these kids they cannot be worse than the seniors.

This makes the most sense. If the club are serious this is what should happen. Until it actually does though it's going to be hard to relax.

I think that Ole doesn't know he's a yes man yet.
Wait until reality kicks in.

I particularly agree with the part in bold nut there are 3 weeks left of the window so I'm hoping we get a few signings in. The second bold part is which annoys me but I'm hoping McTominay progresses well here.
It would be a nightmare if we finish in the bottom half of the table but I think we have enough quality that won't happen. Tielemans is a signing I was annoyed we didn't go after especially at such a low price in this crazy market.
I think Woody is a terrible negotiator and I feel that the only thing he does in negotiations is offer wages other teams won't simply pay but that could backfire on us because if the signing is no a success, we will find it extremely hard to offload them due to players being on wages most teams won't be prepared to pay and most players wouldn't want to take a pay-cut unless they are desperate for first team football elsewhere mate.

I think we’ll sign Harry Maguire but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have concerns at this point.

We do need signings. It’s arguable that, Wan-Bissaka aside, we haven’t bought a player that clearly improves the first team in two years. If we start the season like that then the ire directed at the board will be merited.

A centre half, a Herrera replacement and a goal scoring midfielder are all needed. That we’ve got two weeks (?) to go before the window closes isn’t ideal.

That is our problem....Ignoring quality players in the market and running after someone like Longstaff.

Ndombee would have improved our midfield a lot.

Probably wanted CL football. For the fee he went for I reckon we'd have definitely been interested.

We haven't sold anyone because the board refuses to sell anyone for a fraction of what we paid for them (ie their true value).

Should just take the hit and get shot of the shite.

So far we have the exact position of last season.
One 50m starter and one 15-20m prospect. Both signed in june.

Then july with a pursuit of a centre back.

Ultimately fruitless last year. Will it be so this year?

Id be amazed if we signed two more players now. No chance three.
I think there's still a risk we don't get Maguire done.

No, this time is even worse. We lost one first 11 player and another important player ( Lukaku) is on his way out.
I just can't believe that we will enter in another season without buying proven right winger. Madness

If we're trusting rashford, fine. But we need to sign a back up plan b

We don't need anymore players, we've got the best squad in the country. The lads are ready for this season.

We're listed on the stock exchange. Our finances are there to be viewed. We're not hiding some secret debt.

We gave Rojo a new contract last year, so I’m guessing he has a big role to play in the eyes of Ed and the board.
We gave him a contract because Mourinho wanted him kept. Wasn't anything to do with the board liking him. He got a long term injury so barely played last season. Wasn't due to not being fancied.
