Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

So at the present moment it's sounding like the 5 incoming will be Wan Bissaka, Bruno Fernandes, Longstaff, a CB who may or may not be De Ligt or Maguire or Ruben Dias or Koulibaly, and the already announced Daniel James.

I would still love to have someone to fill the problem RW spot, Ziyech or Lozano maybe, but it's looking like Ole will persevere for now.
And out is Pogba, Herrera, Mata, Lukaku...possibly De Gea...
We are fkd if this happens....

Wan Bissaka and James cannot be expected to change our toothless right handside and we all know Young, Dalot, Mata and Lingard won't. We need a world class player/talent on the right wing.

Agreed, I would like us to sign someone exiciting for the position, but I guess Ole has had his head turned by Sancho and will go all out for him next year. Which will be fine, next year. I just hope the right side doesn't cost us this year.

We're not signing 5 players, 2 more I expect and another shite season awaits, unfortunately.

We needed 5 after last season but now Pogba/Lukaku leaving and Herrera also left, so we must need 7 atleast?

I feel we will sign up a top CB/RB/CM/RW/CF as a minimum and then we might add one or 2 youngsters like James, Longstaff.

Ed and owners knew his team need a rebuild and they cant go on without much success on pitch (without new fanbase, without champions league income) so they will address that in this window

A bid for Delegit/AWB/Bruno shows we are serious , only thing is hope we conclude deals faster

Spend spend spend. feck it. The team now is incapable of winning anything. I hope that we rack up young talent, from wherever, and put pressure on this overpaid arrogant assholes

It helps Glazers and we will be in for another mediocre season. we should do like what Madrid did this season and what city/pool did in last 2 seasons. 6 or 7 quality players with 1 o 2 Youngsters.

————-De Gea
AWB Maguire Lindelof Shaw
--Fernandes Rabiot Pogba
—James Rashford Martial

I could live with that. Drop one of the front three for Matic/McTominay when against top opposition. Probably underwhelming to most but I would take it if offered now.

Rabiot, Fernandes and Maguire are not coming and Pogba and De Gea are both leaving. So I think this line up is far off of what we'll see. We'll probably look like

And Chong, Greenwood and hopefully Gomes will get some minutes.

I don't see any attacking players, who had more than 20 goals&assists during last season joining us this summer. No one of the Fernandes, Dybala, Greizmann mold.
Only players like James, Longstaff and other players with potential in the range of £20m-£30m.
There will be no DOF until next summer. But there will be a lot of corporate meetings underlining our financial strength and health.
There's plenty of "not die hard" fans who have heard of Manchester United's history and they will keep filling up the seats.
Plenty of our fans will keep going because they'll be excited to watch Chong and thewe other academy graduates in the Premier League. Because we will be all British and young.

If Ole doesn't succeed as Sir Alex did with this current approach we'll slide off even deeper and then even if coaches like Allegri or Tuchel are available we won't be able to attract, because of the deep pit we're in. If it's true about Newcastle's takeover, within 2-3 years they'll take over our top 4 battle and we'll slide into forever 6th or 7th.

With rumors of our top 3 players wanting out (De Gea, Lukaku and Pogba) and our club not acting on the rebuild job (Real are setting a very good example of what a rebuild should look like) an exit of the top 6 is imminent.

Yeah you are more likely to be right than me, I'm still dreaming it wont go as sideways but I really fear for the season ahead. So much money in the game now that we do not seem to able to rectifiy our immediate issues by paying large fees like Real, clubs have little pressure to sell.
I hate that club but they don't mess about and wil no doubt win a league and CL again soon. Us? Highly unlikely. If we finish higher that 6th next year I will be surprised however if we can keep Pogba but let him go next year same with De Gea we could possibly make top 4 with some good signings this window. We fail for CL again next year though, I can see us going 10 years without challenging again.

I wonder if the board and owners sit there thinking this or are they just working out how many more sponsorships we can get tied into before we completely become a giant failure of a football club on the pitch.

Muppetry aside things are not looking too rosy in the garden. Ole looks like he is betting his YouthFC will get him through to a second summer window.

As we all know he may well be gone long before that.

We absolutely need quality at CB, RB, RW, DM. Other positions can wait or be filled by prospects. This is before we try to counter any departures of our more quality players.

Past windows don’t fill me with optimism...

What a ray of sunshine you are

He wouldn't. Koulibaly is more expensive in transfer fees and De Ligt would have cost a bomb in agent fees/plus wages far higher than Maguire.

Also I don't think Longstaff is likely - no "Tier 1" reputable journos are going with the story.
Which journos would you say are tier 1.

Nearly 8 weeks to go, anyone realistically still think we can sign five players?

I reckon we'll only get AWB and a midfielder who could be anyone because I don't believe any of the links regarding Bruno Fernandes and Rabiot

It's exactly what it is. I really hope it works. It's not like we haven't seen it. I can tell you of 3 teams which have done it - right on top of my head. Manchester United with class of 92, Ajax boys in the mid 90s, however they got quickly sold out, again Ajax boys this year have looked very potent.
It's not something impossible, but you need the stars to align in your favor pretty much. On top of that you'd need patience from both board and fans and let's not forget the media.
I still believe that players like Rashford, Martial and McTomminay will improve. I've seen a lot of improvement from Shaw and, Lindelof during last season. Dalot has been very promising when going forward. There is a lot of talent coming through as well.
But we need those boys to man up sooner rather than later. We need to call a spade a spade and deal with players who down tools and players who are simply not good enough. Regardless their heritage, price tag, potential or loyalty. Yes, probably would be better to get rid firstly of those who even though possess unique ability but don't put the shift, still down tools, before the ones who don't have the ability but put the shift.

The Muppet in me believes that a team full of James, Rashford, Tuanzebe, AWB, Shaw, McTomminay, Greenwood can cut it. With the right tactical and physical preparation they could achieve good to great results and lay the foundations of a great team. I hope Ole has it in himself to bring up those boys. Time will tell.

Just keep in mind that if Ole fails, this club will slip into a further downfall. They'll be posting pictures of the United 2008 team, like they're posting pictures of the Milan 2006 team.

Wan Bissaka, Maguire, and Fernandes, I think will come.
We will still need another top midfielder, and a right winger.

I do see the the use of that guide but there's some journos who I consider very good and they're placed at tier 3 along with Stephen Howson of all people, which makes that particular guide look silly. James Ducker and Daniel Taylor are good journos and i'd have them at tier 2 at the very least.

The guide is terrible, the french sources are all over the place for example TF1 and Telefoot are tier -25, Bouhafsi isn't above RMC since his informations come from RMC's redaction and they were very reliable before him and will be after him.

RMC being below Bouhafsi, is like saying the BBC are below Simon Stone.

Yep, a lot of it looks off to me too but that's what people are referring to with the tier 1/tier 2 stuff anyway.

The thing about RMC is that they are very careful with their reports, since the radio is a perpetual talk show, they talk about everything all the time even the most ridiculous rumours and they treat it as ridiculous rumours. Now when they say or write that it's an information then it's solid.

RMC i'm familiar with and you're absolutely correct regarding their reputation and reliability. They're top notch and have been before Bouhafsi arrived.

Wow - I hope we get Fernandes and keep Pogba. I don't know why some people here don't rate Fernandes - they should watch more of his games.

But I think we don't need Longstaff and Maddison - there are better, cheaper players around in Britain. As for Wan Bissaka - am I dreaming? He will be huge for us, pay the money now, get a fantastic young player who will be the finished product sooner rather than later. And from what some sources say, the lad really wants to be a Manchester United player not only for the money.

No disrespect to Crystal Palace but Wan Bissaka needs a bigger stage. Pay up now, benefit soon and later.

That front three is literally Crystal Palace/Bounemouth. In fact Bounemouth forward scored more than both Martial and Rashford.
Martial has 1 goal in his last 11 apps, Rashford has 2 goals in his last 11 apps, James has 2 goals in his last 11+ appearances. what the feck is that shit as our attacking 3 going into next season? If we are serious about top 4, no more than one of these guys can start regularly. We will be competing with Watford, West Ham, Leicester etc

I agree. It's incredible how much faith some have in Rashford and Martial for absolutely no reason. Also James starting for us? That front three is midtable quality at the very best.

Agreed, I would like us to sign someone exiciting for the position, but I guess Ole has had his head turned by Sancho and will go all out for him next year. Which will be fine, next year. I just hope the right side doesn't cost us this year.
Is it the general feeling that James will actually be a starter for us?

He won't be here next year although if you're looking for anything that 'cost us' this year then that's who it will be.

Well if we think we'll wait a year for Sancho (which makes sense if we're convinced he's the right man in the long run) then we're unlikely to sign another RW this summer I guess? Which would leave us with James, Lingard and maybe Mata as RW options. At which point you'd hope James is good enough even in his first season to feature ahead of the other two pretty regularly. Odds are we won't have a nailed on first choice there though.

Wow, now I‘m depressed. And I don’t even support United.

He's just followed us closely the last couple of years, something many on here obviously didn't or forget very quickly.

When did this trend start that people think we don’t spend money or sign good players since Fergie left? After Moyes we’ve only had 1 summer where we didn’t land any big targets. Is everyone forgetting Mata, Di Maria, Falcao, Martial, Pogba, Ibra, Lukaku, Shaw, Mikhitaryan, Sanchez, Matic etc

What’s the difference between Fernandes, Rabiot and any of those guys? If you watched us over the last few years you certainly wouldn’t be pessimistic about our signings. Just pessimistic that we’d fit them into a functional and effective side. The signings have almost always been pretty good
