Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

It is kind of ironic that we let Pogba go and brought Scholes back from retirement when we should have gone out and done a rebuild at that time. Pogba should have been part of the new United, but it wasn't faith I guess. The ironic part is that after Moyes and LVG had their moment, Mourinho brought back Pogba and it was supposed to be a symbol of the club doing what they should have done earlier and Pogba was the face of the true rebuild that never happened. Yeah, it never happened. Once again it didn't. Pogba wants to leave again, shocker. We are at the same point we were when Pogba left the first time, and we're looking at a big rebuild, again.

With Moyes, he didn't even know what the feck to do, but Ole is a smart man. He isn't proven at all and our only hope hinges on his first few months at the club and the fact he is a fan of the club and he shares the views of our fans. You never know, it may be different when you are on the outside looking in but I'm sure he still wants the changes that the fans wants. Ole wants more. Not just a few big money signings, but a structural rebuild and call it a cultural upgrade. Can he do it? I don't know, but I do enjoy the fact that I know he knows whats up! That is a start at least, is how I'm feeling about it.

As for signings, we do need a lot. We need to ship out Darmian, Rojo, Bailly, Jones, Valencia, Young. That is 6 defenders to replace. All shit. Crazy.
Maybe we have to sell De Gea, Pogba, Herrera.
We should rapidly also be looking to sell Lukaku, Sanchez, Mata.

That leaves us needing a whole new team, which realistically at this point is what we need. We might not get a fully functioning team straight ahead, but we just need to get rid of these players. Anything else is just procrastinating further. They aren't in our future, and will only take up space, so why feck about with them anymore? They probably don't fit our style, old, they are mostly not good enough anyways, or they are not good to keep around for other reasons.

It is simply too much business for 1 window, but that is the position we have put ourselves in unfortunately. If we do not trust Ole to do this job, then get Poch or whatever and fully back him instead. Any which way, we have to just see this one through and do a massive fecking clear out all at once to make up for the time wasted, imo. fecking buy them out of their contracts.

Yes we will definitely need to overpay if we need that player which is wrong. As we can see the effect from Sanchez wages. Frankly united need to put a stop at it and introduce a salary ceiling.

So what position does Godfrey play? Moreover, it is a post that shouldn’t be taking too literally. I just put English players we have been linked to in our first eleven. I don’t believe that is how we will actually line up, nor is it Something I would want to see.
 
Every signing this summer will be under more scrutiny than usual, and the board need to accept that every signing won’t be a resounding success!

Ole has an impossible task tbh and everyone needs to control there expectations...it will take time! and not be fixed in one summer.

Yeah. 5 players of some class would probably be closer to 3.4-400m.
Sancho probably around 80-100m, De Light close to 80m, and Rice probably nothing less than 60m. AWB not sure, but since he is from another PL team probably around the same.

Not sure if he's right footed or not. I saw some of the Villa Norwich match and I saw him dribbling a few feet with his right, but I also saw him do a long pass with his left.
 
For god's sake Ole, burn it to the ground. We have players that will make me literally sick if I see them wearing our shirt next season.
 
You look at Klopps "hit" transfers when he took over at Liverpool, and you realize how long it'll take us and Ole or whoever will have a massive job on their hands. It's a massive window for us and one we can't back down on or ignore some positions.

First summer - Matip, Mane, Wijnaldum, Karius, klavan, manninger

Second season - Salah, Robertson, Oxlade Chamberlain, Van dijk, Solanke

Third season - Keita, Fabinho, Shaqiri, Alisson

His only "flops" were the random cheap/free punts, but the rest were all huge successes. All starters or very useful squad players in some way. You look at those players, none of them were big name players before they went there. None were players that were sought after by the very top teams. They went for smart signings and the right players, addressed problem positions, and did what they needed to do.

What United need to do is sign a right back, a center back, 2 midfielders, and a right winger. Even comparatively, go for players like Tielemans, Ruben Neves, Meunier/Wan Bissaka, go big on a center back and a right winger to suit. They don't have to be players like Dybala or Pogba. They have to be the right players all bought with the same plan in mind, and all bought to address the real holes.

I agree, but Ole simply hasn't shown anything to suggest he is capable of doing it. From the limited we have seen of him at the top level this season, you would have to say it's a matter of time before we start looking for our next manager and getting rid of the added deadwood.
 
What reasonal player would still want to join this toxic crap at the moment, it is so evident this club is run by incompetent clowns. I can't see anyone decent who actually wants to be here besides for the big paycheck they might get i.e. not the kind of player you want.

Agree with you 100%. We need clever scouting and to pick up players that are about to make it big. It's risky and there will be some good signings and some bad signings. At least the bad signings only lose 10 or 20 million instead of 50 million though.

Football inflation is a real pain in the arse. You'd think that the more ridiculous transfer prices become, the more of an advantage richer clubs would have. Really makes you wonder what in the world has been going on behind the scenes at United.

Our under 23s got relegated with this sort of blandness, our first 11 would soon be playing championship football with this team!!!
 
Press briefing back in early April, was 5 in, subsequently we’ve heard 4 in and from more recent OGS interviews, talking maybe 3 in. Add to that, the departing rumours of DDG (could replace from within), Pogba, Lukaku and now Martial, to replace those you’re looking at 7/8 in, which isn’t realistic. 6 out, should be about 10-12, but again not realistic.

I think 4 additions would be a good start. Keeping DDG and assuming Pogba stays also. I kept seeing people post next seasons team with 6-8 changes, that isn’t going to happen.

For me a RB/DM/RW/F

A RB, someone who’s a very good defender but can get forward as well. Rumoured links to AWB & Meunier. I’d add Tuanzebe to the squad and give him a go. CB pairing would be Lindelöf plus Smalling/Tuanzebe.

I’d add a DM, like Ndidi. I think he’s attainable, a seriously good player and would offer greater protection to the back 4 and added with a good RB, we could wait to add a CB, so weren’t making too many changes, immediately to the starting XI.

I’d look to add a RW, like a David Brooks/Daniel James (he was mentioned in this forum, before the press reports) type signing, they’d be cheaper options than a Sancho and more likely to move. Quick players, comfortable using either foot. Interchangeable.

Then I’d add another versatile forward, like Richarlison. Can play anywhere across the top, he’s young, quick, good in the air, comfortable with both feet.

I don’t think RB(AWB)/Ndidi/James/Richarlison, would break the bank and imo they’re realistic targets. Weren’t spending £300/400m.

Future transfers, over the next 2 windows, would be a LB and CF, possibly another midfielder and CB. Obviously if Pogba were to leave, then a further addition would be needed, this window.

First objective, Top 4 we’ve seen the EL, is a long and gruelling competition, no side does well in the PL, whilst playing Europa. 4th is the target.

Ok, not a glamorous looking team on paper, but we don’t play on paper. Does look like it lacks leaders but Lindelöf is growing in that role. My two main concerns would be lack of goals, is there 50+ league goals in the front 3 and squad depth, but It’ll be the start of a young hungry team, who could press from the front and run all day.

I do think OGS biggest challenge is, sticking to the style of play he wants and not changing it regardless of results. We’ve seen previous managers, revert quickly. When things at City, in Peps first season, weren’t going well, they were conceding soft goals, although he tinkered with formations he didn’t deviate from the style he wanted to implement. He then added more players, then following summer and got rid of the deadwood. OGS, although the injuries mid season didn’t help, has constantly changed formations and style and started making wholesale changes game to game. I couldn’t honestly, identify a style of play for the current United side.
 
First and foremost there is plenty of deadwood to clear but I don't see us getting rid of a whole 11 (maybe more). Fellaini hasn't been replaced yet, but with Herrera, Mata, Valencia, Darmian, Rojo, Sanchez going that's seven then listening to offers for Bailley and Martial (if you believe the press).

Add to that Lukaku, Matic, Young, Smalling, Jones, Perreira who are not good enough, oh and Fred!! All these will be phased out over the next two years. I think UTD will try all they can to hold on to Pogba and De Gea. Don't expect big stars, RB AWB/Meunier then at CB I think they'll go for Maguire (attainable and would be willing to play EL), would also like to sign Alderweireld for cut price and out Bailley. That's a far better back 4. In midfield I think they'll have a crack at Rice and Tielemens, both attainable at reasonable prices and then someone who can play on the right, forget Sancho!!! He won't come. Put your money on Bale, experienced pro to get as back into CL and then make another run at Sancho if we make CL.

People say his play is reminiscent of Ozil offensively from years past. Off the ball, he has a high motor and is relentless in covering ground. Has a knack for tackling and being hard to play against never easing up. With the ball or with the team in attack, he’s as fluid and unpredictable as anyone always making runs and cutting. Which is a lot more than our static forwards who are known to be slackers that don’t have a high enough work rate.

He would be an excellent primary bench option to Pogba or Sancho or could even start along with Pogba in midfield against certain sides and take pressure off him by not letting him be the only option the team has to funnel any sort of offense through. And he’s not selfish either as his primary instinct is to distribute the ball by making key short and/or long passes versus just dribbling through opponents. Constantly looking around to play the right ball with his high IQ which engages the rest of the team as well and ups the overall team creativity by nature...I don’t see why he can’t be a Mata replacement who’s likely to leave, let alone a better option than Lingard.

This is beyond depressing. We need to sign a couple of quality players in a couple of positions.
Jones, Smalling, Baily, can go, whatever. We desperately need to revamp that backline.

RB, CB, CM, (maybe 2 if Pogba goes), RW, and ST.

For the rest, we can promote from within to make up the number.
Laird, Gomes, and Greenwood seem to be the most promising from the youth team.
We also have Tuanzebe and Henderson on loan.

Thats why we need to target young up & coming players. The other top six teams have basically established starting 11s and subs.
 
Geniunely just hoping we buy quality players this summer. At this point don't care what positions, just quality players (although if we don't sign someone to play on the right I will be quite upset). The squad is so lacking in quality and depth, that just signing good players no matter where they play will improve us. Big decisions will be in who goes out, as it will be tough to offload a ton of players while also signing enough.

You watch that and then you think about Martial, who is just the laziest fecking footballer I have ever seen. Makes me fecking sick.

I've left pogba out as he's clearly talented enough. His issue needs to be crystal clear and if he wants to leave we simply have to let him go. I think we'd probably keep mata as a squad player, Jones we are stuck with.

So the overhaul will happen over two summers I think but could and should aim for 6 out this summer with sanchez young darmian Rojo lukaku no brainers

I think the Galactico narrative is untrue, which is why I agree with you. Schweinsteiger was more of a name as he was clearly too old. Bayern got rid of him for a reason. Falcao just had an ACL surgery and so United took a chance on him. He wasn't the same which is understandable. Zlatan was another player who was getting up there in age, and he did relatively well even if I do feel he should have done a bit better on some of the great chances he got. Di Maria still had 10 assists for us, and the problem we had with him was more of a case of him not wanting to be at United from the get go.

I still view Pogba as a success in that given how bad we are, he's still been one of our best players. I know many will disagree with that, but I do feel that his perception of his performances is bad more so because of unrealistic expectations and his style of play.

Dybala would be one of those true signings, albeit in a category of his own as he should still be in his prime and is only finding his way out after Ronaldo's arrival. Which makes sense from Juve's point of view because Ronaldo is there to stay.
