Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

Structure?

Let's pretend we have barcelona structure. How does it helps players to perform better? Seriously?

A structure helps in the long run, an improvement in accountability and chain of commands, a better youth product, but in the first 5 years no structure can make martial runs harder or lukaku held the ball better or young suddenly turns into cafu.

Our problem isnt structure, many lesser team with less expensive squad shows proper football vision and tactics. They defend and counter, but everyone of them resembles footballer. Yes its nice to restructure while we're at it, but it isnt the fix we need desperately.

Our issue imho is rotten players playing to get the manager sacked every other years so that they get a clean slate and a new contract. This very same player finished 2nd just last year with the same structure the same board the same training ground. Suddenly they forgot how to run and pass the ball 10 yards? And it's down to structure?
Wrong. Our problem is the owners, the board structure (all family members, with neither knowlege of or interest in football). The delegation of all football matters including transfers and interaction with the manager to a plonker like Woodward. That's the problem. Nice to restructure? What a joke of a post.

I do admired some of the poster here thinking we will be able to attract good players.
But sorry, United now is not the same United during the SAF era. Which players have the right mind will join United now having an unknown manager and incompetent board. Unless the players goes for the money only. (mercenaries)

Where's this restructuring stuff when we won stuff under fergie? Where were this ed out brigade when he brought a muppetastic summer during lvg first year. Should i dig up the thread where ed woodward is hailed as genius?

GK :

· David de Gea : After 5 seasons with barely any mistakes, he gave them all out in the span of a few matchs. Whatever the reason behind his form, I believe he’s still one of the best and we should our best to keep him. If he wants to leave then we need to cash out now, or have him sign a new deal with a gentleman’s agreement he will leave next year.

· Sergio Romero : Seems happy playing second fiddle and we should happy an international starter for Argentina is there.

· Lee Grant: Need a 3rd GK … I guess.

CB :

· Victor Lindelöf : The only CB that has a future as a starter at this club. I believe he will be better with a better defender at his side.

· Chris Smalling : Keep as squad player for Premier league.

· Eric Bailly : Had a promising-ish start but Its time we cash out on an injury prone defender.

· Marcos Rojo vs Phil Jones: Sell one, Keep the other for premier League rotation. I would say to keep Rojo because he’s a lefty.

Full-Backs:

· Luke Shaw: Does seem lost but I reckon we can keep him next to a new left back

· Ashley Young: Controversially, I think Young should stay as a backup for RB/RW. He has cost us a lot by making mistakes playing from the back, however, he has knack for provoking fouls and sh!thousery in general. Squad player.

· Diogo Dalot: Good Potential to become a 1st team regular at RB. Even though he showed defensive weaknesses, he should become our main RB next year.

· Matteo Darmian: Dead wood – Sell for a new LB.

· Antonio Valencia: Served well.

Midfield

· Nemanja Matic : Took too much stick this year but I believe he should stay. He has experience and doesn’t normally lose the ball.

· Paul Pogba: A statement needs to be made and he should be sold. I really believe Pogba only cares Pogba. His stats might be good, the best even, but he has not been lifting the team and his attitude on the pitch of constantly swiping his arms around as if he’s flustered to be there is frankly disguting.

· Fred: Mixed feelings about him – Tries a lot but also makes a lot of mistakes. I think he deservers another season.

· Ander Herrera : Given what Young and Fellaini are/were paid, I think we should shug up the money and keep him.

· Scott McTominay : Give that boy a raise FFS.

· Juan Mata : Sad to see him leave as I think he still has a role to play with the quality he has.

· Andreas Pereira : Glimpses of talent but at 23 he hasn’t shown regular form. Cash out.

Forwards:

· Anthony Martial : Loads of talent but gives the impression he only does efforts when he feels like it. Very bad at tracking back. He will probably stay but I think we should sell him.

· Alexis Sánchez : I hope some Chinese or MLS team will take him.

· Jesse Lingard: Not the most talented of the bunch but he has the knack for slipping between the lines and running between CB and FB. Useful Squad player.

· Romelu Lukaku : I think the world cup last year really had a toll on him. He can lead the line in the Premier League. Going into Champions League next year will allow us to invest if needed.

· Marcus Rashford: Next season will be make it or break it, he will either be a regular for the years to come or end up like Welbeck. Needs a boost of confidence to become ruthlessly clinical.

Conclusion :

Out: Valencia, Jones/Rojo, Darmian, Pogba, Perreira, Martial, Sanchez

In: LB, CB, MF, Forward.

My favs:

- PSG want to sell Kurzawa, and even though he isn’t exceptional, he will be bringing another option without breaking the bank.

- Varane : Might seem like a stretch with Zidane back at Madrid and us not in the champions League but he already won it 4 times at 26 years old. He might relish a challenge.

- Midfield: Van de Beek. Industrious, covers a lot of ground, tracks back and adds goal. Will be suited for a high press – quick passing game like OGS was having us play when he started.

- Forwards: I find it hard to believe Sancho or Dybala joining us this year without champions league. Not finding anyone with a good price/quality ratio would be the only argument for keeping Martial for another season.

It seems that we are not just going to sell deadwood (Darmian, Rojo, Bailly?, Valencia, etc), but also we could lose some players that normally play in the first team and squad players (De Gea, Pogba, Herrera, Martial, Mata, Lukaku).
That's why we need to sign the best available players we can get.

Koulibaly. He would be the best considering De Ligt doesn't want to join us.
Cancelo. IMO he's better than Meunier and Wan Bissaka, Juve want to sell him.
Eriksen. If Pogba goes to Madrid, he would be the best replacement. City don't need him (they could sign Fernandes and a CDM), Madrid would spend in Pogba (and Hazard), Juventus and Bayern won't spend too much for him in his last year of contract, so, he could be an option.
Dybala/Felix. If we are going to lose Mata, Martial, Sanchez and Lukaku, then we need a talented attacker. Both players are available.
Pepe. I would prefer Sancho, but it seems that he will stay at Dortmund.
Then just sign a young GK or play Romero, and another young midfielder.

We could get 300m+ if we sell De Gea, Pogba, Martial, Lukaku, etc. So it could be possible to get those players. That would be if we want to compete versus the bigger teams. If we want to be the new Liverpool, the sign Manolas, Maguire, Trippier, etc.

Romero
Cancelo - Lindelof - Koulibaly - Shaw
Fred
N'Dombele - Eriksen
Dybala
Pepe - Rashford

The club, before it was floated, was making money. It had SBC and others in the boardroom who cared about football. There was a functioning relationship between CEO and manager... I could go on...

I do admired some of the poster here thinking we will be able to attract good players.

What's even concerning are the players that are already here seem to want to jump ship. It's not a good look. Even worse is the manager doesn't have the pull. Might even be the opposite because the football world outside United fans don't rate him.

Actually the optimist in me thinks this could all be a good thing in the long run, instead of signing galacticos and wannabe players who have been overhyped after a flash of something in a different and easier league we will have to sign players with some desire to suceed and prove themselves, that might mean fishing in the lower half of the prem or even the Championship but that is exactly how SAF started and not a bad model to use.

If we had got CL then what we may have been more likely to keep the pre-Madonas and sign more of their ilk.

Ok things may have moved on but seriously if had more players like McTominey, great, not world class but willing to put a shift in, as opposed to Pogba, supposedly world class but cannot be arsed then we would probably be in finer fettle than we are.

Lets not write off next season before it has begun.... have a little faith and optimism

If we want to do this properly, target players like

David Brookes
Daniel James
Timo Werner
Kai Havertz
Julian Brandt
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
De Ligt
Skriniar

There are more obviously but these kinds of players are young enough to still have some passion and fight, but also talented enough so that they aren't just "doing a job" merchants that we have rife within our squad right now, it's gonna take us years to get back to title challenging, so get some younger players in, blood in some academy ones to, let them grow as a team together for a few seasons. That's how i'd do it anyway

Liverpool are arguably now one of the best teams in Europe and look at who they have signed under Klopp - hardly a "superstar" amongst them, just solid mentalities and raw talent.

This is the approach we need to take, it's just whether Ole can craft them into what they need to be or not.

Amazing what happens when you back your manager and allow him to build a team that want to play for him isn't it?

I’d go for the following starting from the back

Wan-Bissaka
Joachim Andersen
Ferland Mendy

Felix/Neves
Daniel James
Ryan Sessegnon

Klopp let the performances speak for him. He got Liverpool playing like he had Dortmund playing. From there, it gives him credibility to give him funds. Mourinho could not do that. We were terrible at counter attacks for example. Pep did the same as Klopp. The media criticized Pep in his first season because his side would without fail play out from the back and have an error leading to a goal. The style of play was clearly there though.

That's something Ole needs to show next season otherwise there is no point in believing his project.

There are alot of players want to play for Man Utd. You are over reacting. Man Utd is a big club that pay extremely good salary.

First you need to have a Klopp or Pep as manager.

After loosing out on champions league and Ole in charge, we need to be more realistic with our expectations on players who will want to come here.

Notable Out: Pogba, Lukaku, Sanchez, De Gea, Herrera, Mata, Valencia
In: Rice, Aaron Wan Bissaka, Daniel James, Maguire, Be. Godfrey

Romero
AWB - Linderlof - Maguire - Shaw
Rice
Mctominay - Godfrey
Chong - Rashford - James

The United way.

I'd give Solskjaer the manager of the year award if he managed to defend sixth place with that team next season.

We wouldn't make top 8 with that team. Unfortunately.....the man is far closer to reality than most will care to admit.

That won't be far off our lineup

We need 8+ players to challenge for anything next season. Our team is so poor.

I want to vomit after looking at the midfield & front 3.

Arguably the best two teams and best two managers in Europe are building up our two biggest rivals, and we’re throwing poor Ole out there at em?

This is why you don’t do YouTube analysis. I haven’t watched him play, just noticed that he has been linked with us recently. I saw that he was powerful, put in some good tackles and powerful runs. He looked like he could be a midfielder.

Edit: actually he does appear to be a midfielder.

No he’s a CB

Definitely. The scraps from Real and Barca's table just don't give a shit. We need to be after the stars of a few years time from clubs where United are a step up. The time for buying established names is when you're consolidating your position.

They are two best teams in Europe by a distance, cycle of the other teams like Barca, Bayern and Real has come to an end. Everyone else in this country is miles off them.

Klopp and Pep are top class coaches, with better players and work for teams with better recruitment. It’s pure fantasy Ole can compete with them at any point in near future if at all.

The ins and outs this summer could be all over the shop. Do feel sorry for Ole, would have been great if he could have left having just been a caretaker.

The bile and negativity towards Solskjaer on here makes me wonder about some people.

Ole has inherited the dross from 3 managers who have successively tried to play anti football, these managers have been failed in turn by Ed Woodward's ineptitude, so now we have a load of mediocre players who are on ridiculous contracts and who have no motivation to do anything other than pick up their wages... and yet Solskjaer was at least in part successful.... forget the ups and downs and missed opportunities we will finish in a far better position than when he took over.

Ferguson was given time to turn the club around and look what happened, Klopp has been given time to turn the club around their current success is several years in the making, Solskjaer deserves the opportunity to fail or succeed before he is written off.

I really want to believe in this. But don't you think that Fergie and Klopp had already achieved something in their managerial careers before they got offered the opportunity to turn things around at the English clubs that employed them? My only fear about Ole is that he has no track record or managerial experience to back up the claim that he can turn it around.

I really hope he turns into a Guardiola or Zidane for us, but so far it's looking highly unlikely so far. Anyway, our biggest worries are the DOF and the whole internal structure of the club that needs changing.

Yes. I'm not quite sure about all of the specific players you mentioned but I fully support the argument you make.

I mean I think Ole is not the right man, but that first paragraph is just ignorant.

It's difficult, I still don't know what a Solskjaer team is. I suppose we were most impressive when we had 3 dynamic forwards and pressed more.

If we take a step towards that then it will be a successful market.

It's kinda sad, but I'm happier hoping some of the dross on our team to leave this window rather than who will come in.

out: Valencia, De Gea, all our CBs except Lindelof, Young, Pogba, Mata, Martial, Lukaku.

You don't need a bunch of super stars to not get trounced by Everton or to draw against a relegated team.

This is how you end up with teams like the one you came up with above. My head is still kinda spinning after reading it. fecking hell.

It's not just throwing random names and hoping for the best.
