Amrabat would round out the midfield crew nicely. My greater concern is getting the front line to speak the same language, but this thread is about Amrabat. Let’s get this done.

Amrabat is an absolutely rapid snail and is a really tiny giant. :nervous:

We will need a starting midfielder instead ofa Casemiro back up and I am afraid he is not good enough to be a starter.
The midfield rebuilt seems to have not gone well in my eyes. We were bullied in middle today

We need to see a increased level of intensity from the team because what we saw earlier was nowhere near good enough. And as far as individual performances are concerned, Shaw and Garnacho on the left were particularly poor in the first half. Garnacho constantly gave the ball away and we should expect better from Shaw, which was disappointed to see.

The issue we've got with the two high #8s is that I'm not sure we have the fullbacks to make it work. Shaw inverting in-field had a poor game and AWB is too safe a passer to be effective in-field and is best utilised out wide.

I think we need a first receiver in midfielder and then play the double pivot. If the midfielder we buy is Amrabat, then I'd have Mount as the #10 with Bruno as the left sided playmaker (not left winger) and Casemiro and Amrabat in a double pivot. I think the team below would be better as far as far as balance is concerned and it wouid be far more difficult to play through us centrally, and it would also suit the collective unit more than any one individual player. Bruno as the left sided attacker wouldn't be playing as a winger but rather a left sided playmaker/midfielder similar to how ten Hag has utilised Tadic in the past.

---------------Rashford--
-----Bruno---Mount---Antony
---------Casemiro-Amrabat--,
Shaw - Martinez--Varane- AWB
------------------Onana-------

And if we manage to play through the thirds comfortably with the team above, then the shape should resemble the same team below in a higher line imo. I think it suits us better for now and there should be more than enough games for everyone to play over the course of the season. Mount can also be utilised as wide forward if required.

-----------------Rashford-------------------
--Bruno-------Mount-----Antony---AWB-
--------Casemiro-------Amrabat-------------
---Shaw------Martinez--------Varane---------
---------------------Onana-------------
Biggest problem with this is the Hojlund/Rashford balance

It’s lIke our fans are just seeing a name and begging it’ll work. Amrabat is providing nothing if he’s replacing Casemiro beside two no.10s.

We all agree that we need a number 8 (and also a backup number 6) but since we already signed Mount, we will not invest in another 8 or 10.

Mc Tominay can't play Casemiro's role, so we need a type of defensive midfielder.

Onana is good, but 50M for him never.

He certainly isn't slow. I have watched him compete against numerous fast players and he has held his own

I dont like to follow YT comps to describe players (Especially ones with titles like that) but the below vid is one of the best I found to show what his pace is like and there are some instances which aren't even captured here.

What i like about him, is that he seems unflustered in posession. Has a michael carrick quality about him.

We all assume he'd be playing with casemiro and one 10

And where’s our new marquee no.7 going to play? Shift him out wide? It’s been one game and we already have to shove him around to make him work.

As much as we rely currently on Bruno's one out twenty attempts of a pass coming off to get a goal, I'd be interested to see if we're more fluid with Mount in that position. He's a lot more tidy on the ball, and we didn't get to see him in the attacking areas nearly enough last night, as the spaces he'd like to operate in were occupied by Bruno. I doubt we see it till Bruno is suspended or injured, and the last thing we need to see is Bruno shoved out wide again though.

Isn't he a Casemiro replacement? I think we will need a partner for Casemiro more urgently.

My overall impression is that he's more of a potential 8 who can also moonlight as 6.
If there's only the possibility of s single signing in midfield this summer we need a profile like that providing at least some cover...

If Amrabat play, so what's gonna happen to our 55 million pounds man?

Drop him. Was concerned about how we were gonna play after getting him but if the plan is this, Casemiro deep with Bruno/Mount splitting further up the pitch I don't think it will work at all. Teams breaking forward will have a fecking field day.

Obviously the 'drop him' is in jest but I do have real concerns with the thinking behind how the midfield will play now.

I hope he is, since that's what we lack, not Mount.

Not exactly. Different profile. Better than Case in possession. Can play lone 6 but can also play as a DLP with Casemiro being released slightly further forward.

Still think we will mostly play 4141 as the plan is to win the ball back high up the pitch. Mount and Bruno (as well as Martinez and the full backs) still learning this system.

Amrabat will compete with Casemiro but will also give us some options off the bench when things aren’t working or, say, if we want to set up as 4231 against a particular opponent.

He will be a sub. Like he should be. He is a sub level player. Don't ask me why we bought him or paid that much. Got too much hype in Chelsea. "The most naturally gifted player in team". He has never showed anything special. Solid player but after all pretty mediocre. I would say Eriksen at his best was a level above Mount.

Yeah. It works with City (and to certain extent, Arsenal) because they're so good at keeping the ball, and their width players are so dangerous.

Our width are garbage, and striker is just average. So we probably need a better protection in midfield.

If it wasn't clear before, I think last night should be sufficient evidence that he is not what we need.

We are one of the few midfields in the PL who really lack a physical ball carrier who can ride challenges and this is what we need. Amrabat would be great in a set up that is a well oiled possession based team, but we are not that. And with players like Bruno, Mount, Garnacho, Rashford etc we can't play like that.

The movement of our forwards when the ball is deep is atrocious and to be a possession based team you need seamless off the ball movement. Amrabat would be wasted here.

We’ve signed a player to play more offensively alongside Bruno but the whole setup of the team and way we play doesn’t reflect that, the lot of them look lost.

I have no idea what they’ve been trained all summer to be honest. ETH prioritised Mount he should have had a plan in which he would fit the system.

If we’re going to play with 2 midfielders further forward we need to control the game, we can’t seem to do that so out of possession we look awful

Agree, we need someone who wants to get on the ball in this team. Currently we have just Eriksen but he is too lightweight on and off the ball atm

It’ll take far more than one game to show we can’t go it.
I’d go as far ti say they need 4/5 games before we can judge really. We can’t make such sweeping statements after one game

Yup, agreed. You need the entire team to be comfortable on the ball and also move it quickly, while retaining possession is the paramount objective. And because of this, we need more protection in midfield which we do not have.

Yeah, lost is exactly how I would describe them last night. Most hadn't a clue what they were doing, and that's a worrying thought after supposedly working on something for weeks in pre-season.

Yeah, it's sh**e. I'm not convinced it will get better quickly.
