Sofyan Amrabat | signs for United on loan

Seen him a few times and whilst he’s a good passer, he doesn’t always seem that mobile. I think a faster paced league will catch him out

I haven't seen him a lot, but the few games I have seen, that is my concern with him.

He has atrocious defensive stats though for someone who's supposedly a DM. Compare him with Case, Caicedo and Rice and you see a picture of someone who's more of a playmaker but without a solid defensive side to his game.

Maybe as a box-to-box he'd be better? But then he doesn't really offer much on the attacking 3rd either. Compare him with our current 8s, Fred and Eriksen.

Fred is an unreliable passer but much more effective in both defending and popping up with goal or assists. Eriksen is clearly a better passer than both and more of an AM based on his final 3rd contribution. Yet Amrabat still doesn't deliver much more in terms of defensive work rate than Eriksen, even though he offers nothing on the final 3rd. He seemingly just floats around in midfield picking passes, but without defending or popping up with contributions in the final 3rd enough.

I think Amrabat would get found out in the EPL and become a bit of a passenger.
Those charts make Rice look like a good complement for Casemiro

I see. To be honest, I don't even want him. I only saw him during the World Cup, and he was really impressive there, but obviously not an ideal tournament to decide whether a player is good enough for us or not, as we've seen countless times previously.

His defensive stats are also shockingly bad for a CDM.

He was impressive but in a very specific way that doesnt directly translate to a midfield like ours. His team sat loads of players behind the ball and he worked hard competing for the ball outside the box against attackers trying to find openings. The kind of role he would have playing for a team much weaker than the opposition. Its not the role you get in a team around our level. He does however show that for Fiorentina - like with the West Ham match he has a range of passing for when you are building attacks and not just repelling them. I'm not sure its of the same creativity as Eriksen for example though. Probably more like Fred.

Am I mistaking him for another player or is this the same midfield dynamo who played for Morocco at the World Cup?

Is his contact up soon? If not then why would Fiorentina sell a supposed Barca/United level midfielder for so cheap? Either that price is bollocks or he's not actually that good and they're cashing in whilst they can.
He has a year left on his contract and has made it clear he won't renew with them

He would probably be a good buy as a Casemiro backup/rotation option.

Solid defensively, good engine and comfortable on the ball. Barca are looking at him too.

A decent upgrade on McTominay I say at 20-25M.

If there's any truth to this, it's a welcome signing and I expect to see McT and Fred leave...

A few reports we have agreed personal terms with him.

How I wish for it to be true but I doubt it. Italian media (Just like Portuguese media) is very fond of mentioning Manchester United in literally all transfer stories.

Club would be better of looking at Lavia. Unless he's considerably cheaper.

Will be a good first phase midfielder for a good price, if the fees being bandied around are true.

A replacement for Sabitzer? He was absolutely fantastic at the world cup for Morocco. Not sure about his club form though

Every player we are linked with 'isn't good enough' according to caf experts.

Conclusion - United should withdraw from the league citing the fact that no players are good enough to play for us.

Based on Italian news outlets form this past month, that means it absolutely won’t happen and he’ll be going somewhere else.

May as well be sourced by Mario Spaghetti of the Pizza Times.

I hope it’s true because that would say to me that we have more transfer funds than we’re letting on.

Would be a great signing as the back up needed for Cas. Only on redcafe would people want us to spend 100m on Caicedo so he can be a back up player. Get this guy in as a replacement for Scott and next season find that playmaker as a replacement for Fred and our midfield looks a lot better. I wish we could do it all this window but we can't. ETH is too good a manager to not know that our midfield needs revamping, he simply has to use the funds available smartly considering we need a goalkeeper and striker too.

Amrabat could be an excellent rotational option for the next 5-8 years. Instead we have posters shitting their pants over Pool possibly signing a young player who was relegated with Southampton last season. Amrabat and Cas against the 'big' teams would be solid enough and good on the ball. Cas and Mount against the 'smaller' teams is doable as we had Cas and Eriksen (who is still a great option we have too) last season.

Ultimately ETH will want that FDJ type player but realiastically we don't have the funds. With this signing we'd have at least signed our replacements for McTominay and Fred with much better players in Mount and Amrabat.

Literally nobody.

Just like to point out he's not a replacement for anyone in our squad, as we have literally no one who plays like him. The closest we have is when Eriksen plays deep.

Id expect that to be a quality sauce

Fairly interesting thing to note (and most probably been pointed out previously). ETH gave Amrabat his debut at Utrecht.

While you are right in every word, I can understand fans feeling it is an underwhelming signing. They compare him to Mac Allister, Rice, Kovacic and Caicedo who our rivals bring in. (Most see Mount as more attacking and put him up against Havertz, Szobo). Amrabat is older than all of them bar Kovacic and have done very little at a high level.

Will he improve Man Utd? Probably! Is he a «shrewd signing»? I am sure he is! Will he make our midfield competitive against Arsenal, Liverpool and City?

There it is! Our scouting department must be feeling about as redundant as the lifeguard who stands by the pool during the Olympics.
