He only has a year left on his contract. There is a release clause I think, but it's something like €60m.
Fiorentina are willing to sell him for a lot less than that as he'll probably leave for nothing otherwise.

Cantona played for big teams in France. Bordeaux and Marseille. I don’t think this was a good example. This wasn’t a farmers league either.
Seeing highlights from him he seems very good at using his size to win the ball back without fouling the opposition. Like he just seems to brush them off, now obviously the pace in Italy is a little slower so I would be curious to see how quickly he can adapt.
I bet the Caf will be fuming at United and Ten Hag if Klopp is signing him, but if he’s coming to us, he’s gonna be unconvincing as a player

To be considered a top player in a top team, you should be one of their main players, no?
They are wanted. United's player transfer business has never been top level - if it was, at least 3 players would be out already bringing in 60m at least. We've sold Elanga and can sell more - the money would be there if we got business done.
Cantona was an Enfant Terrible who went from club to club. You surely know that story as a United fan? Besides, comparing Cantona with Amrabat!

Because Cantona was a precocious talent. Amrabat is not.

Name me 5 players who having never played for a top 5 club in Spain, Italy, France or Germany have then gone on to play at a top 5 club in England or those countries and been successful?
Honestly, I have watched Amrabat and have never been convinced he's a world class player, good enough to help a United win the league or Champions league. If he was, he wouldn't have been at Fiorentina, Hellas Verona and Club Brugge for the past 5 years.

My point was that Cantona was not wanted by any top clubs for most of his youth and early twenties because of his temperament.

He ain’t Tchouameni and that has always been my problem. Hopefully I’m wrong but we’ve been down this round before with players like Schneiderlin.
yeah i get that, was just responding to the precocious bit..
anyway, Amrabat isn't a top top player in my book so we're loosely in agreement. But i do think he's going to be a good squad option at a cheap price. i'd much prefer him to either Fred or Mctominay in that deeper role, and overall he gives us more tactical flexibility and more balanced midfield options. Makes a lot of sense if we can shift one or both of the other two.
I'm not sure he's much of an upgrade on either to be honest.
That’s a career argument I’m just pointing out he played for top teams. He wasn’t at Rennes or St Ettiene breaking through. He had a lot of temperament issues early on and that carried over to Leeds. But he’s always had good pedigree and represented his country at u21’s and senior level. He’s got a good club C.V.
He’ll be starting beside Casemiro imo. If ten hag is sticking with a 2, amrabat will be there. Don’t be fooled by the price tag; he will be the bargain of the summer. Another mentality monster.

Could have said Fernandinho who got his move to City at 28 and did not feature much for Brazil before 29. van Dijk is another. But Fernandinho was perhaps a player of similar type as well?
I find it hard to believe we paid £60m for Mason Mount only for him to not be a starter.

The usual. They’d be lambasting the club if Liverpool were signing him instead. He’s a quality reinforcement for a very reasonable price. This is good business and the type of signing we’ve been crying out for for years. Finally showing a bit of nous in the market instead of paying well over the odds for anyone in sight. There’s no pleasing some folk.
If we’d actually went all out and and got Oles targets we’d possibly have Bellingham and Camavinga in the engine room and Haaland up front. It’s kind of depressing tbh.
