To be fair for his defense, he missed pre-season due to injuries and only joined us in the late days of the window. He hasn’t got a proper pre-season and proper chance to get fit and to show what he can do. Today was a fantastic performance. May be triggering €20m isn’t a bad option so we can focus the money on other positions. If he can get proper pre-season with us, we might see more consistent Amrabat with full fitness.
If we spent 20 million on him, we can't use it for other positions. Its like thinking it is a good deal buying a TV you don't need or fancy because theres an offer for 33% off

I mean overall through his stint with us. Was excited for more and it's hard to shake that feeling.
DOn't waste energy. This thread is (understandably after a very good result) in overdrive.

Looked like the player we hoped we were getting today. Sadly his ship has sailed.

Fantastic performance from him. If this is the last we've seen of him, AWB and Varane then at least congratulations to them for ending on that note.

My man of the match today. His work rate and intensity were vital to our performance. Our set-up suited him, I don't think we would have won with either Casemiro or Eriksen playing there in his stead... for me, it goes a little way to justifying the loan fee we paid for him.

As for his future, I can't say I feel strongly either way. I don't think he is good enough to have us competing for the league or CL, but I think he could be a better squad option than what we've seen from Eriksen and Casemiro this season.

Is It les of a surprise that he played well with the 3 man midfield set up which did not leave him exposed like he has for most of the season?

Strange season as a whole. Some tidy and competitive displays mixed in with looking slow and sloppy at other times. Long spells out of the game and a big resurgence late on.

I’m eating humble pie with this one. He has been brilliant for us last couple games. Could be a good squad option if cheap. We all know we lack depth.

Agreed, looked like the World Cup version of himself rather than what we have seen all season.
Best for both parties he moves on but was excellent today.

great game on the back of his recent resurgence. Works hard to cut down spaces. Id take him full time as a squad player. Dont get the haters.

Don't see it, he looked awful all season.
Playing in a one man midfield massively highlighted Casemiro's weaknesses. Let's take a player who obviously is losing his legs to some extent, then play him in one of the most open midfields in PL history while the defenders sit deep and everyone else rushes forward, leaving him alone to cover acres of space by himself. Whoever we played there tended to struggle, whether it was Casemiro, Amrabat or Mainoo.

I'm not saying Casemiro would have had a good season if we'd played a more normal midfield, but he certainly wouldn't have been as bad as he was. We couldn't have made it more difficult for him if we actively tried to.

For 15 million pounds I think its a no brainer to sign him on a three year deal. We know that Casemiro and Scott are not good enough in midfield and could be a handy backup player.
If we were to sign him on a three year deal and a world class young defensive midfielder it wouldn't be the worst signing in the world really. That's if Casemiro and Scott leave in the Summer which is probably likely. We are not going to have the funds to sign two world class midfielders this Summer. One young world class defensive midfielder and Amrabat wouldn't be a bad option.

agree

Like others are saying, if you can get that £21m down to around £15m, he’d be an excellent squad player. What does 15m get you nowadays!

We need to keep this guy.. His desire and passion is first rate. Give him a proper preseason where we can get his fitness and sharpness up to scratch and he's a very useful squad player.

Eriken will be gone as well and so would leave us with: new DM, Amarabat, Bruno, Mainoo, Mount. I say we'll end up keeping Scott somehow.

Nobody rated him at all, then a few games ago, he came in beside Mainoo and kept to his position didn't run off to the far corners of the pitch and not come back, just basically stood in position in midfield and did the basics and we seemed much more solid.

I'm not sure that its coincidence, I think that there might be something in players keeping to their position during a match.

ETH stumbled into playing him again and he has played really well in the last few games.

Like his attitude and application - feel that we have really wasted this loan.

Probably too little too late. Feels like a Sabitzer loan all over again.

Do have to wonder is he just having a purple patch or could he actually be useful. Last few games he has been ummmm alright. Today he was fantastic but there have been signs that he might not be as bad as many of us thought. Still wary of making the move permanent but just maybe as a squad rotation player he might be useful.

Fair play to him, gone out on a high if that's it. But he has raised questions about signing him which I thought were laughable a few weeks ago

When does the option to turn the loan into a transfer expire? When he is played in a non-1-man midfield and not as a left back he had qualities.

Could be a good option if we choose to prioritise Olise or CB’s instead of the 2 CM’s we need.

Sell McTominey and bring him in for a cheap fee. He definitely has more quality as a midfielder and is already acclimatized to the squad in a season where we will lose quite a few players.

Get him signed!

Last 3 or 4 games he's been really good. Today was probably one of his best games in a Utd shirt.

Not sure it warrants a permanent deal as over the whole of the season he hasn't done enough to justify it.

Played his heart out, looked shattered at the end.

The type of gameplan that suits him to be honest. He looked good in that Morocco setup where they defended compactly. He's better when there isn't ground to cover as he's rather ponderous. If he can just sit in and play steady he's decent.

But obviously going forward that won't be the way we play in most matches so rather pointless.

Thought he was lowkey MOTM today. Not a pretty performance, but in terms of tracking runners, breaking up play, and being a general destroyer, he was great. His passing was decent by his standards, didn't lose the ball like against Brighton, so his defensive work stood out.

Near the end when he was doubling up with AWB on Doku who was creating problems, he did a very important job.

I don't think we have another player who would still have the legs to do that. It's clear as well that he is physically strong and can engage in ground and aerial duels and dominate.

If we had played Case instead (which many were suggesting), he would not have had the engine to do what Amrabat did.

I think you keep players like Amrabat because of those qualities. Big games count for trophies, and if you have a player who can shut other players down, it's worth its weight in gold. He gave Foden nothing today.

Hope we can sign him as a backup DM and he’s OK with that role. Don’t think he has it in him to be a full time starter if we want to improve our style.

He made bad passes that were still completed.

Great performance though, really put himself about.

I meant bad passes in giving the ball straight to the opposition close to our own box. In fact, I think he got caught on the ball in the league match against city, which cost us a goal. But give the man his due, even when he was closed down, and in danger of losing the ball, he managed to find a United player. His best game for United.

Would sign him up as a squad player, he's solid when used correctly (which he bizarrely hasn't been for most of the season). The problem is Fiorentina want over 30m for him when he's only worth 20m at most.

£12.5m would be a reasonable price, but I still think he's too slow for the PL. Maybe a club defending in a low block would suit him more. I like the bloke, hardworking, modest player who knows his place in this team, similar to Fred, but still, he won't get any faster.

I think he's a good choice to bring in against the likes of city, Arsenal, Liverpool, when we will be under pressure for a good part of the game, but whether we sign him will be up to the hierarchy.
