So Brad has gone and the race is on to take his place!

If his posts were so good in the football and United forums, and so bad in some of the others, was he ever banned from all but the ones he did good posts in??

That's what Rood says. He could have just done it less. A few posters here said he had it coming ... did any of ye say it to him?

Your edit doesnt really make any difference to the general point being made, permaban from all forums seems overly harsh in the circumstances - I have seen several posters being banned from certain parts of the caf so it wouldnt be a first, and I think it could have been a solution for the good of the forum

Anyway I've said my bit and made my point, I havent heard anything which convinces me otherwise - whether it makes any difference I dont know, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

We discussed this and every single modmin (I think), even the minority who wanted to give him a final, final, final, final, final warning and chance thought that there was zero chance that this would work and that Brad would, as usual, do what he liked, when he liked, in whatever forums he had access to. No access to the general? No problem I'll post the same stuff in the United forum and the modmins only have themselves to blame because they took my access to other forums away. Warnings would be ignored, infractions would follow, mega-drama would then ensue. Back to square one. The more I think about it the more I suspect that he never got over having his unsolicited application to be a mod declined.

Could have at least been worth a try - if he did as you think then fair enough, ban him.

Basically anything I say in this thread will be taken as Mockney going off on one so I'm not even going to bother, and will cease after this post ...I'll probably get the "World Cup Meltdown" thrown at me or some other drama queen bollocks, but it goes without saying that I think this is a ridiculous decision..... in my opinion...

Essentially..

It's a fecking pathetic decision Rood, and not one made with the good of the forum in mind.

Another nail in the coffin.

This....

As someone who (sort of) knows Brad, along with Nome & Rood and many of the other match going-occasionally-gay-link-up-tollgate-crew, this definitely does seem like another nail in the Caf's coffin...Who knows, maybe in a couple of years you'll probably have a new Brad, Mockney, Plech, Pert etc, but right now it really does seem to be getting to a ridiculous point where you're (seemingly) trying to deliberately feck up the whole perceived ethos of the Caf as we knew and loved it....You're definitely alienating a significant crew of match going reds, which considering the general OOT perception of the Caf amongst them as it is, seems to be a particularly counter productive exercise, IMO....

When I first met up with some heads off the Caf it was a communal (if embarrassing) experience....Now whenever I do it's become almost an in-joke about how shit it is (and this is from someone who's generally tried to champion it to the RR lot)..So whatever you want to say about things not being any different recently, I personally don't believe, because clearly it is. From my perspective at least.

I can't imagine Brad said anything racist or mental, and it was just a succession of gay infractions that lead to this scenario...But while we're in a stage where modmins are locking threads where posters are being irreverent, attempting to ban Kermit pictures and banning posters like Brad, it's just becoming an incredibly segregated and uninteresting community to be a part of...

I know that my involvement in this thread will lead to much cliched drama bollocks if I continue, and it'll probably end up as a long 27 page thread, about nothing, so I'm not going to post again in here, and any replies to this can be done by PM....But obviously, this is just how Nazi Germany started. Well done.

Long live Brad.

I think we did this with him before and we have done it with others as well. Barring the odd non-United fan who is banned from the United forum and still manage to post such an approach has always ended badly as far as I can remember.

It is also a matter of fairness to all. Everyone else (me included) would have been gone a long long time ago if they behaved like Brad did. If infraction points didn't expire he would have been banned by infraction points alone at least twice I think and that doesn't take into account the reversed infractions, the infractions never given (I know I declined to give him man many points to avoid the drama and others have been the same) and the straight out temporary bans that he has been given. The last time he was given a final final warning he was allowed to come back he knew the score because he was on 14 points and chose to call me a cnut again for no apparent reason (hours before one point expired). Again I ignored it, no idea why TBH, until another modmin, quite rightly, decided to infract him. We then debated it at length and even had a vote. The mast majority voted not to give him a final final final final chance. TBH we have wasted far far too much time on a single poster who would have been instantly banned for his threats of physical violence (presumably from a third party) aimed towards Feedingseagulls if he were any other poster.

Being banned from a web forum is insignificant in the greater scheme of things. Everyone moves on in their own direction and life goes on, usually with yet more interesting characters emerging. Hell, we've lost Davo and are still chugging along.

Whenever you'll decide to come over and watch a game, you'll have on less "overly helpful", "going out of his way for others" person to find/give you his own ticket. This is one of the biggest losses for this forum IMO.

He won't have trouble getting promoted when he re-registers anyway.

I agree with Rude.

iPhone post!

------------------------------

I think there should be a Banned sub-forum, hidden from all others where all the banees would be collected for further investigation. Over time (x years) they could be allowed back depending on how they behave there. Just a jail type of forum where you can piss around with the banned peple, for the fun of it. Make the Caf more exciting for you ModMins!!!

Now it's become almost an in-joke about how shit it is (and this is from someone who's generally championed it to the RR lot)..So whatever you want to say about things not being any different recently, I personally don't believe.

it's just becoming an incredibly segregated and uninteresting community ...

And yet...you come back. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Shame about Brad though, was always one of the ones with something interesting to say at least.

You say that, but have I posted nearly as much as I used to thought Brwned?...And as a poster who joined in 09 and won POTY in 10, you'd think I'd have hit 20,000 posts by now....as it is I'm 10k behind you...the reason being I've only popped in here for occasional jokes recently...But even that seems to being outlawed (over exaggeration, but not imagined IMO.)

Obviously I've just posted again....but, well, yeah, feck you.

Just the last few infractions:
- called an Admin a cnut
- calling another poster a "rat bastard" and made a post insinuating violence against the same poster
- called an Admin a cnut again
- called a moderator an arrogant condescending twat
- Said all the mods take periods

In what other forum boards do you think admins would put up with that for so long?

None. Any other board would have banned him a long time ago

As for alienating match-goers, don't get me started. Its a forum board. Not a top red competition. I don't care if you live on the centre circle of Old Trafford or in an igloo in Iceland. All i care about is that if you post here, you pay some respect to others & you abide by some very simple rules. It's not rocket science

You obviously missed the gay internet wars - the majority of people you talk of aren't absent due to them being match goers.

We don't really want the RR crew back TBH so we don't care what they think. And if they are happy in a forum that is largely r mates who meet up at matches then that is fine, it serves its purpose. The Caf is so large now that we can't modmin it in the casual informal way we used to. It would be impossible.

You really have to work hard to get banned on here if you are a long established poster and Brad worked very hard indeed, over a very long period. We have bent over backwards (it felt like forwards more often than not) to keep him and he pissed every opportunity and chance away.

I can't imagine Brad said anything racist or mental, and it was just a succession of gay infractions that lead to this scenario...But while we're in a stage where modmins are locking threads where posters are having jokes, attempting to ban Kermit pictures and banning posters like Brad, it's just becoming an incredibly segregated and uninteresting community ...

Brad did more than enough to be banned multiple times.

And of course the place has changed. The demographic of internet users has changed in a decade. We can't have NSFW pictures or links any more because Google will withdraw their adverts which pay for the servers. People now get sued for defamation committed on the internet, the data protection acts prevents us from doing all sorts of things we used to do to sort out trouble makers. We have many times more members. Etc

The football chat and camaraderie of the very early days will never return. The free for all of the pre-RR days will never return (and in retrospect it was very like the last days of Rome only with more photoshopped photos of pigeons, stoats and various posters getting jizzed on). It was bound to collapse sooner or later and it did. Sooner.

Kermit pictures aren't banned (as far as I know) but they were getting very very annoying because they were everywhere. And we usually close/delete/whatever bumped pointless posts even in the general. That last one is nothing unusual or to complain about.

If a few more people tried to support the modmins instead of being confrontational ALL the time it would improve the site but questioning every single little thing seems to have become commonplace over the last couple of years. Something else we can thanks Brad for I suspect. It is like a classroom where the naughty kid is allowed to run riot so other kids who normally behave get out of control "because we can". I'm talking in general and not having a go at you in particular BTW. Or calling you a kid.

Better analogy need.

footy, jeston.

picked up a pass about 35 yards out on the left, beat three or four players across the pitch and stuck it in the right corner low from 20 yards out.

now I'm going to smoke a shoobie-doobie.

That sentence still works if you were talking about bitches though.

Do Canadians play American football? I always thought they were hockey type of people.

Despite saying I wouldn't post again (I know, I'm a hypocrite) I felt this needed addressing beyond PMs (since nobody actually PMed me and continued to reply in here)..

You obviously missed the gay internet wars.

Yes, I did...for the follwing reason

All of which would be a brilliant argument...Had I been a poster pre-2006...or pre-2008...or even pre-2009...But considering I joined in 2009, and was poster of the year in 2010 (when I was clearly enjoying it) it makes all of that completely irrelevant really.

Obviously my issues with the Caf do not stem from it not being like it was in "the olden days" How ever good an argument that may be...They stem exclusively from it not being like it was (at most) a year ago....

There has definitely been a change IMO in that short time. And almost everyone I've interacted with at a non gimpy-net level has thought the same thing..So whilst it may seem to all of you that I've just become too big for my boots and am ranting for a self interested spasticated reason...I personally feel that this place has changed rather dramatically in the last 8 months, not the last 5 years, and I've encountered the same opinion at match-day level too...

And since I have no idea what it was even like 5 years ago, using that as an example of why things have changed, or why the "golden era" is no longer allowed, is obviously of no use or value to me...Virtually nothing has changed in the state of the internet in the year and a half + I've been a member here.

Kermit pictures aren't banned (as far as I know) but they were getting very very annoying because they were everywhere. And we usually close/delete/whatever bumped pointless posts even in the general. That last one is nothing unusual or to complain about.

I disagree, personally, as it's indicative of the difference in the Caf all but a year on...Last year a very funny and irreverent thread (and a completely non libelous/NSFW one to boot) was left for posters to have fun in...This year it was locked. As I said, to me, a difference in the last year.

If a few more people tried to support the modmins instead of being confrontational ALL the time it would improve the site but questioning every single little thing seems to have become commonplace over the last couple of years.

People do support the modmins..Loads of them do. In the threads that are left open to discussion there are plenty of posters who support you. If you only chose to see the dissenters, or pick them out as the obvious trouble makers rather than the genuinely vocally concerned, or think that no one should have anything bad to say about the running of this place, then alright then...we're obviously poles apart on what this forum should be like.

Better analogy need.

My whole life is spent looking for a better analogy...

If you'd like to continue this conversation (which I'm fine with) then lets do it by PM...As (as I said earlier) I don't want to derail this thread into a 27 page mods vs me fest.....And we can discuss the merits of Hall Pass while we're at it..

This isnt about internet wars or any of that crap, that is all in the past as far as I am concerned - I see no reason for there to be any issues between forums today.

I still like the Caf - I wouldnt be here if I didnt and if it is unfairly criticised then I always stick up for this place (as does Brad!), but there has been a noticeable change very recently - some things that were acceptable and amusing a year ago are now locked, deleted or banned.

It isn't. But things change. The Caf now isn't the Caf of a year ago even.

And there has been a big change in the last year that has contributed to the general in particular changing and that is Google threatening to ban advertising on the site - it was clean the place up or have no money for servers and bandwidth.

The problem with posters like Brad is that he promotes the us v them ethos of the Caf. When explaining things takes up 100 x more of our time (volunteers all) usually for no good reason we do tend to not like it much and it gives us (me certainly) far less incentive to engage and discuss. Since his departure things have been far better imo. We have had quite a bit more engagement between modmins and posters (there never used to be any divide really which is a shame) with things like Raoul's opinion seeking threads (which we have taken on board) and Ciderman's excellent new No Comment threads which looks like it might lead somewhere even more productive if we can change the front page and integrate blogs in the way Weaste is suggesting.

Leaving the Brad arguments aside for a second, I feel the need to pick some holes here.

Firstly, your post lost a large degree of it's merit as soon as you mentioned Pert in your nail in the coffin list. Why on earth would we want another Pert? As far as lunatics go we've had far better.

Secondly, the caf being "shit" has been an in joke with the "match going-occasionally-gay-link-up-tollgate-crew" since about 2006. In fact, the only reason RR exists in the first place is because of people complaining that the caf is shit. Why are you championing the caf to a bunch of people who created another forum specifically because they didn't want to post on the caf? All you're going to do is annoy them, and you're four years too late for that. It isn't fun anymore.

Also, the worst cnuts on here are the ones who reckon they're more important because they go to games. I like this place precisely because spackers like that don't, and again, this has been the way since long before you were even here. You want us to pander to them now? Why? So everyone on here can start rating themselves in order of importance or how many other caftards they've met/games they've been to, or something? bugger off with that. This place goes downhill as soon as the lines between here and real life begin to get blurry. Trust me on that.

The caf hasn't actually changed that much Mockers. Brad has been bickering with the mods for years, people have been refusing to post here because they think it's below them for years, people have been whining about it becoming more shit since I can remember. As far as I can see this place only turns shit for people when they start taking their existence on here far too seriously. It's become a recurring theme. The rest of us just want to piss around and occasionally post pictures of Peter Crouch dressed as a parrot (or in Weaste's case pictures of himself dressed/undressed as a girl).

Is Google still breathing down our throats?

Anyway

What was Brad's last post?

In the sense that if we don't stop all of the NSFW stuff permanently they won't allow Niall to carry their adverts. This won't change ever I doubt.

And no idea what Brad's last post was I'm afraid.

We still have to delete quite a few every day. Today it was in the google you username and post three pictures thread. All we know is that we have to be careful. We have even had to go back and delete stuff from ages ago that they specifically mentioned in the email.
