Smashley Young

I'm not the biggest fan of his when he's on the left wing in a 4-4-2, to be honest. Too predictable with him constantly cutting in onto his right foot.

But he's devastating with that curling shot of his when he's positioned closer to the center. i think he'd be a good player in a 4-3-3 but i'm less convinced of him out wide in a 4-4-2

He's contributed a huge amount of point winning moments throughout the season. The opening day winner vs West Brom, last minute cross vs Norwich, 2 goals and MOTM vs Spurs (I'm sure there's more)...I've had my doubts about him and still do at times but you can't argue with that contribution. They're big moments in important games and he's delivered.

I've been very critical of him this season but credit where it's due he can score a goal and is probably a better finisher than both Nani and Valencia despite his all round game not being as good

The way Hernandez and Welbeck have been playing I'd put Rooney back up top and play Young in the hole.

Young played terribly a couple of times off Rooney earlier on in the season if I am remembering right.

Has really been decisive in the past few weeks. Excellent cross for Giggs goal at Norwich, 1 assist and 2 goals at Spurs and now this goal. Fair play, I've some doubts about him but considering it's his first season and he has been hit by injuries, he has been very good.

I wouldn't say he's been very good, he's scored important goals though without actually playing well and that is a great sign

Should the season end tomorrow I'd give him a 7/10 for his first year at the club

I'll have to check, but I'm not convinced that graphic is correct. From memory, the move started with Rafael laying it off a couple of yards to Carrick at position (1).

Also, my favorite part of the move started when De Gea played it out to Ferdinand at position 33, and ended with Valencia squaring it to Young on the edge of the box. Ferdinand stood still with the ball for a few seconds. Carrick then moved forward several yards, passing a Blackburn player, and Ferdiand played it forward to him (34). This is where, if I am correct, it goes wrong. From memory, Carrick, who was being closed down, controlled the ball with one touch and quickly squared it to Rooney who had dropped off a few yards.

That graphic shows Carrick giving it to Rooney out on the left, and then Rooney playing a ball right across the pitch to Valencia. In reality, Rooney was to the right of Carrick (in relation to the way that United were playing) and played the ball from a central position.

Edit:

And I was right. Having just checked it, Carrick moved round the back of N'Zonzi to a position roughly 10-15 yards in front of Ferdinand. As he received the ball he was being closed down from behind, so Rooney dropped off a few yards and Carrick squared it almost instantly with his second touch. Rooney then played the ball out wide to Valenica on the halway line, and he made his way up to the edge of the box to square it to Young.

A bloody useful addition to the squad, it's refreshing to have another player who'll look to get a shot off against teams who we're struggling to break down.

He's finishing the season in similar form to which he started the season. Great timing for the run-in!

Funny how we pick up these nuggets from Villa - like Dwight Yorke & Ashley Young and they push on....I was sceptical about both signings and have been pleasantly surprised on both occasions....

Young , however, will be mightily p*ssed off as his predecessor won The Treble in his first campaign

I'm sure he'll be mightily pissed off with just the league title......

Maybe it would have actually looked like a foul to us if it wasn't for the ridiculous jerking movement as he went.

Anyway, the only reason you see us admitting it's bad is because of the position we're in, you wouldn't see this from other teams.

You'd think Derry would've protested a bit more if it was as blatant dive as people are suggesting, don't you think?

Not necessarily. Some players don't protest, once the red is out there's nothing they can do after all. I've seen lots of players get ridiculous red cards, and they just turn around and walk off the pitch. It's out of their control by then and they know it.

I see this is a ref blunder more so than anything else. The ref should have thought twice about awarding the penalty and the linesman should have caught the offside.

Couldn't give a toss, City shouldn't have got that penalty a month or two back against Spurs.

Okay, hate me.
He is diver. we all hate Bale, Busquets, Suarez because of that. Why is Young different? He is our player, but that doesn't mean he can dive, on the contrary . He is diver, and of the biggest one's in league. Anyone who see's different needs to take off red tinted glasses.
I don't like him because of that, and that's it. I can't remember one or two dives from our players this season, but I can remember couple of Young's dives.

I thought it was a penalty at first when I saw him just walking away calmly, I think he just realized there was no point causing a scene.

Stop fecking diving Ashley.

Poor from young, very poor. I hope fergie has a word with him behind closed doors.
