Television Slow Horses (Apple TV+)

Binged S1 and S2 this weekend. Brilliant show! Season 1 was a lot better than season 2 though. Hopefully they bounce back with season 3!

Great season, wow for having a lot of comedic elements this show turned dark really quickly.

I loved seeing Duffy get his comeuppance. Only wish River had done it.

Maybe they’re trying to make it somewhat credible as life doesn’t work out that way usually?

And that's the starting point on making it credible? Okay.

It's more than likely the way Herron wrote it. Not complaining, just wanted to see that.

It's a fine show and Oldman is especially wonderful in it (and a nod to Catherine Standish, a wonderfully understated character), but the plots are a bit meh, and some of the cast is a little bit weak. Still very watchable, and only 6 episodes per season is nice.

Just finished Season 1. Wow. WOW. That's television. THAT'S TELIVISIONNNN.

I went from True Detective Season 4 to this.

Like falling out of bed with Susan Boyle and landing beside Jennifer Lopez.

I really really really love that we live in an era where "doing TV" isn't seen as some downgrade for quality "film actors". Obviously if they can't get a part it is, but we've got so many examples of actors doing both top class TV and top class film. Though I suppose British actors have been more willing to do that traditionally than Americans anyway?

Think so, but Apple TV & Netflix has helped to break down preconceived notions.

I so wholeheartedly disagree, though I really like a lot of what Apple has put forward the last few years. HBO is still the kind of premium TV for me.
Pound for pound currently, Apple is the leader for me. HBO's true successes happened decades ago with groundbreaking, seminal shows which will stand the test of time, but, since 2019, Apple is the clear front runner.

"Decades ago" is an exaggeration which masks the fact that they've still put out some incredible TV since the the glory days of The Wire and Band of Brothers. 2019 just about misses out on The Leftovers and Sharp Objects, but since then we've still had The Last of Us, Watchmen, Chernobyl, House of the Dragon, Barry, Peacemaker, Station Eleven, Succession, Mare of Easttown, Raised by Wolves (it was real to me, damn it!), The Plot Against America, Perry Mason, The Righteous Gemstones, etc.

Actually, while thinking up this list I realized that FX has had some bangers as well in the last decade. The Americans, Shogun, Fargo, What We Do in the Shadows, Justified (just about makes the decade cut-off). And obviously Netflix, Amazon and Apple in particular have had their own share of fantastic series. If anything, writing this post has made me realize how stupid the people are who think we're somehow past the "prime" of prestige TV.

The Bear as well.

No doubt HBO has some recent good to great shows, I just feel that the height of HBO's success was decades ago. They're not far off from Apple, but they are in the second tranche.

Good call on FX.

First episode out.

Edit.

Oh Shit!

It is a great series, but S4 ep1 was just a middle of the road episode. Nice plot setup and think the Whelan will be a good addition.

Some great Lamb scenes though, enjoyed the shower quip.
