Sir Jim Ratcliffe: I want to buy Manchester United | Will make a bid for the club [Telegraph]

What pressure is Ten Hag under? :wenger:
You don’t think he’s under pressure to deliver? Frankly there should always be an element of pressure on him. Just not the levels the media hype it up to be after a couple of defeats.

I personally want him to have as much time as he needs to build a successful team here. But you’re naive if you think if he was to lose 3/4 more games before the World Cup that the media wouldn’t ramp up the pressure - and people do listen to that, rightly or wrongly.

They’re baying for blood and we need more of the media and our own fans to point out that our club is run poorly, instead of chopping and changing the manager again.

Not meant snide but we played a game 2 days ago. You cant have it a talkingpoint in the media everyday as it gets very dull to non united people. if they do go its going to be a long, stubborn process. The only time you can expect it to gain momentum is matchday, or maybe if Ronaldo does his telltale interview and throws shade at the club

Yep you have a point *handshake emoji*

What pressure is Ten Hag under? :wenger:

It would be totally disingenous to think that Ten Hag does not have any pressure to deliver, truth be told. When you're the manager or head coach of any storied sports club, there is always a serious amount of pressure.

Off-topic aside, Sir Jim really needs to keep himself in the spotlight on his own will as well. The Glazers won't take him seriously unless Sir Jim shows the same aggressiveness that the Glazers showed almost 20 years ago.

Gary Pallister apparently said to a mate in the pub "they need to sell" so it's definitely on. If only Clayton Blackmore spoke out we could be informing the NYSE by 17:00 tomorrow to get ready. Nev, Pally, Clay...tonny(?) also part of the consortium?

What are Pallister's and Clayton's credentials to suggest they'd be involved in a consortium that takes ovet United?

Strange how the takeover talk has silenced for the past 10 days. Especially since the Liverpool win.
And how the Glazers have approved 150mil worth of spending since.

Unless things are going on behind the scenes, which i think would have leaked, it doesn't feel like anything has really changed.

very correct. Big worry.

Nothing was ever going on. It was just an excuse to sell newspapers firstly and then for people to play it up because they thought they could flog you some merchandise off the back of it.

you know that Ratcliffe came out and confirmed it in the Times, right?

If you want to buy something you don't go to the Times. It's quite sad fans don't realise when they're being played.

If you want to buy a house do you approach the owners or phone up the Waverley Echo?

Businessesmen with serious interest in buying what is even for them a pretty fecking expensive asset, don't act like Rebekah Vardy and run to the newspapers to let them know all about it. Primarily because of the negative impact it will likely have on the price that's demanded.

Sir Jim got some free publicity and attention drawn to his existing business. He probably dislikes the owners , as most fans do, and probably sees this as a free way to help undermine them. Which is fair enough.

But it's naive in the extreme to think this is how billionaires go about things if there was a serious interest in buying an asset worth billions of pounds. For a start the Glazers are likely to not be pleased at the publicity. Do you think pissing off the people you need to convince to sell is what someone who seriously wants to buy would actually do?

Do we think the FT is full of people openly leaking like it's Heat magazine? It's playing out like this because football fans will believe anything if they want to believe it

Okay I was just checking if you were aware as it sounded like you weren't. It seemed like you were suggesting the entire thing was a ruse to sell papers and merch, of which Ratcliffe has no material interest in.

If nothing going on, why have the club not denied it?

There's nothing to deny. They didn't deny the last three takeover rumours did they.

One thing that doesn't stack up is why Sir Jimmy would do this. I mean, we all know billionaires hate publicity stunts and attention.

I'm flummoxed.

Yes the club has denied rumours previously.

And by SEC rules, they do have to confirm or deny such rumours, due to price activity. They have already confirmed, via Bloomberg, the Glszers are looking to sell a minority stake in the club.

So, something is going on.

I'm flummoxed.

He's 70 years old and always kept a low-profile throughout his career, and never played the publicity card.

I don't think I've ever even heard him speak.

My guess is he went public to get the fans behind it and ramp up the pressure on the Glazers, allowing him to negotiate a cheaper price. He probably knows the Glazers position is weakened.

Definitely something happening. Ive got a feeling it'll take a lot longer than we all want though. hopefully in a year they'll be gone, but it'll probably be longer.

This.

Although, in the interview he gave the BBC in regards to his bid to buy Chelsea, he did say he cannot buy United, as it's not for sale. Him going public, is to put more pressure on the Glazers to sell.

Heck, I've been doing more now in regards to Glazer Out movement, since I now know that ther is a viable option out there who can putchase is us.

According to Forbes his net worth is 11.6 billion USD. Imagine being able to buy two huge clubs and see them compete with each other at the top with your own personal money, not even counting loans.

it’s funny, because when Elon Musk bought twitter, he announced on twitter months before it that he was going to buy it, he then proceeded to slag off the current board.

and actually, I think the glazers would have been pretty chuffed to have read Ratcliffe was interested in buying for two reasons:
1. He actually has the financial clout to pay a price they would want (5-8bn)
2. Him announcing his intent raised the share price

He didn't, though

But he has done nothing (that we know of) after his announcement that he wants to buy the club. It'd help a lot if the fans actually knew there is a concrete offer made on the table rather than protesting for virtually nothing.

His spokesperson has already said that they are willing to buy into the club. Not sure more else can be said.

I don't think there is a concrete offer on the table, but you never know. This is a game that could take years to play out.

You're doing a great job of keeping this thread very active every day mate.

I remember where i was the day that SAF anounced he would retire. A mate called while i was at work, high up in a ladder. I climbed down and kind of hid away around the corner with my eyes filled with tears. i was just in a huge shock! We both were kind of hulking and sulking together for an hour i think, with me changing hiding spot so i wouldnt get spottet by my foreman!
I think i realized that day how much i loved the club and SAF.

The day we are rid of the glazers and a new owner is announced, i wouldnt rule out reacting like that again! #GlazersOut

Another YouTube video from Knighton should do the trick.
Did you see last night he just uploaded ‘for no reason’ one of the worst videos ever made about a YouTuber of all things? Levels of cringe are off the scales.

Knighton should be nowhere near our club. I’d rather the Glazer’s than him and the invisible knights he has “backing” from. Better the devil we know in this instance.

He’s a snake oil salesman without even any oil to sell. We might be desperate to get rid of the Glazers someday but we ain’t that desperate.

Really looking forward to the protests again on Sunday. Let's see whether Sky give them the airtime they deserve.

They gave them air time last week. They didn't cancel coverage of the game itself to talk about it and simulcast the discussion across Sky News, Sky Atlantic and their eight movies channels at the same time so that means some believe its a conspiracy

Watched 5 mins of it and that was enough for me.

Micheal Knighton simply can’t afford us. I think what we need is Sir Jim to actually put a bid in to buy us after going public in his interest.

We need someone who is actually interested not someone who goes public in a publicity stunt.

Haha, you're so funny. You get so worked up in this thread. I'm not too sure why?

Glazers have thrown dead cats on the table by letting United spend £225m (of United’s own money of course but ex-Liverpool player pundits will spin it differently)

So naturally the heat will fade

Ratcliffe needs to get serious with this. Leak stories about the lack of investment in the stadium and other aspects of the club and then make his first official offer and make it public

this is where we are now though, he has served his purpose. If Glazers do decide to sell, they aint going to Knighton saying hook me up bro

The stock price just popped some huge volume. The price jumped up while the whole market is dumping downwards in a big way.

Somethings happening and someone knows something.

An exciting summer window this has been.
