Sir Alex in for Akinfeev

Lloris, Adler and Akinfeev would all be good choices - frankly if we have this supposed first refusal on Adler then I can see us going for him.

Otherwise, there are others like Ustari, Carrizo and Neuer (also Asenjo if he hadnt recently moved) who also have potential I reckon.

Adler would probably be a better bet.

Akineev is worse than both Van Der Sar and Foster on crosses. We'd be better off with somebody better.

Artur Boruc? Out of contract in summer 2011 so could get him at the end of the season for £3-4m.

Excellent keeper who nearly pissed away his career last season after some real problems in his personal life.

Is settled again and has made an excellent start to the season for Celtic including one of the best saves I've ever seen against Hibernian.

One of the top keepers at WC2006 and Euro2008

FM Legend he may be, but I reckon he would do well. Whilst admittedly I havent seen him play (just going by some highlight reels and his FM stats! ) he seems like quite a commanding keeper with good distribution, which is the type we normally seem to do well with at United. Looks to be in a similar mold to VDS and the Great Dane, rather than a more "shot stopper" keeper such as Almunia or PIG.

I think we work better with a "leader" between the posts to help organise our excellent back four. Whilst obviously we need our keeper to be able to make good saves, he wont need to make as many thanks to our defensive options.

You've got that completely wrong, seeing as he's not commanding at all and is just a shot stopper, albeit a very good one.

Proof if ever needed that you really shouldn't be talking about players you've never seen play.

Makes too many mistakes to be a success here, I think.

Why are certain people suggesting that we have a first refusal option on Adler?

so who's better Adler makes some outstanding saves (5.58) and always seems to push the ball away from any possible incoming players.

Nuer just reminds me of Schmiecal especially with that starfish type save near the end (around the 9.00 min mark).

so who's better?

Adler has us listed as his favourite club on FM, I also recall seeing an interview with him on ESPN in a Bundesliga preview about him saying he'd prefer a move to England if he were to leave. The same show said Neuer preferred Italy :wenger:

Manuel Neuer looks suspiciously like Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica

akinfeev was bollocks tonight if that is any help.

Although I can't say I've ever been particularly impressed to be honest.

I've never actually seen either of them play (or if I have I haven't realised it was them), but Neuer impresses me more on youtube videos. Adler seems to punch and palm the ball away too often, even at times when it's catchable. Whereas Neuer, as you said, is vaguely Schmeichel-esque.

Obviously I'm going completely off youtube, but as we all know that is the best way of judging talent.

I didnt watch the whole wales match, but I saw the first 10 minutes and then it was one of matches I was flicking through for the rest of the night.

In the first 10 minutes Akinfeev came for one cross out of about 8, tried to punch it, barely made contact and it dropped right next to him almost resulting in a goal. I didnt see him take any crosses better than that.

How anyone can think he'd be more solid than Foster...

Read yesterday that Fergie has dropped his interest in him cause he doesn't speak english - Fergie will never sign a keeper who can't effectively communicate with the backline.

I think that if Fergie is going to be looking for a goalkeeper in the near future, it will be for a number 2. When PIG has had enough of getting splinters in his behind and decides he want first team football else where. To be honest I'm never that assured with him in goal, seems far too nervous.

On Akinfeev, he is supposidly 6ft 1'. But he rarely looks it, he is very poor when coming to claim crosses and he doesn't seem to command his area as he should. He is a cracking shot stopper though, but not good enough all around for Man Utd.

I'd rather stick with Ben Foster, a cracking save from Benitez ensured we keeped a 1-0 lead against Birmingham. Saves against Burnley keeped us in with a chance of getting an equaliser. A few saves against Wigan and a fine save from Van Persie to keep it at 0-1. Foster is shakey at corners, but he has already shown that he can be called upon to keep us in the game and the more he has played the more confident he has become.

I'm sure language barriers would be one of the first things he looks at for a keeper. So if thats a stumbling block, he probably never had an interest him in the first place.

Tiabi?

Or you mean... after he signed Tiabi he'll never again sign a 'keeper who can't speak English ;)

Some paper this moring saying Akinfeev could never 'Igor' United.

Apparently he said he loves playing for CSKA but that any player in the world would love to prove themselves at United.

It's the best one, thus it's clearly the one that's true.

Just how it works.
