Sir Alex in for Akinfeev

Either of the two Germans are my preferred option. Neuer has impressed me more (although I haven't seen a large amount of either), but Adler is a Utd fan.

Akinfeev is probably my last choice out of the young keepers that we are linked to. As others have said, his weakness under the high ball would be targeted mercilessly in England. The others may not be particularly great at crosses either, but they are much better than Akinfeev.

Christ on a bike, you lot.

He's fecking shite. Not shite in a deliberately hyperbolic way, but actually shite.

Like a lot of Russian keepers he is irratic rather than shit.

He always looks like he's a couple of minutes away from a monumental error even when on top of his game.

Not shit but not what we need.

Sitting right behind the goal last night, I was suprised by his (lack of) height, looked pretty small and very flappy

Best future goal keeper of any generation in my eye's. thought he was potentially the best young goalie in the world for a few years now. he wants to play for us aswell! bring it on, this keeper could be the greatest EVER!

FM Legend he may be, but I reckon he would do well. Whilst admittedly I havent seen him play (just going by some highlight reels and his FM stats! ) he seems like quite a commanding keeper with good distribution, which is the type we normally seem to do well with at United. Looks to be in a similar mold to VDS and the Great Dane, rather than a more "shot stopper" keeper such as Almunia or PIG.

I think we work better with a "leader" between the posts to help organise our excellent back four. Whilst obviously we need our keeper to be able to make good saves, he wont need to make as many thanks to our defensive options.

Hehe.

I honestly think Neuer should be our No.1 target to replace Van der Sar, he is in the mould of Schmeichel. He is already a good keeper and showed it with some of his performances in the World Cup.
Weirdly in the World Cup he shut his eyes when coming out for crosses (I wasn't sure if I was seeing things but others confirmed it). This would put me off big style.

I have a bad feeling we'll sign this lad.

Don't think that Akinfeev is as good as he's made out to be, I don't like short keepers either.

Man Utd turn their attention to Eastern Europe for next keeper

Manchester United have apparently turned away from the usual suspects in their search for a replacement for Edwin van der Sar and have set their sights on Igor Akinfeev, currently the number one for Russian outfit CSKA Moscow.

United need to find a long term replacement for van der Sar, who retires at the end of the season and have been linked with all manner of keepers from Liverpool’s Pepe Reina to Hugo Lloris of Lyon, now according to the Russian media, it is Akinfeev who is the primary target.

Akinfeev, who at just 24 years of age would represent a long term option for Ferguson, has established himself as Russia’s number one, he has already played 47 times for them and is very highly regarded, the only obstacle for the Old Trafford giants would be the fee.

The goalkeeping situation at Manchester United will need to be resolved one way or another some time soon and with Ferguson refusing to either name or even look within the squad, it is almost certain that United’s next long man between the posts will be an acquisition.

We should make his contract performance-based; he gets feck all unless he catches the ball twice a game. He'll be homeless in a month.
