Should we consider selling Pogba?

His dream club would offer something like 30m + Jovic
Hopefully we can get 50 million. It's a far cry from what I would have myself demanded we demand for the player, say, even half a year ago. And this may be very knee jerk on my part. But considering our financial situation post Covid and Pogba's weaknesses, I think it's time to cash in, even of the cash isn't enormous.

I'm willing to sell at this point, I'm not excited about extending his contact.
I'm actually worried about it. And he's generally been one of the United players I enjoy watching. But the idea of tying ourselves into a huge financial outlay on a player who as talented as he is, isn't fitting in and is creating tactical headaches, doesn't make sense.

The decision to buy him never made sense to me. We had him. Let him go and then bought him back for a huge sum. That’s just plain bad business.
We bought high to sell low.
He’s never been worth the money we spent on him.
Stealing a living, like a lot of them, I’m afraid.

One brilliant assist against Newcastle including a few deft passes and I’d guarantee people on here would be screaming out that he is the raw world-class talent we need at a club like ours. At the moment he isn’t even doing enough to be classed as a luxury player

£50 million I feel would be good business.

I’d use that to get Grealish, a proper player.

Was just thinking the other day. If we sold Pogba for £100-£150m last summer.

Already signed:
Fernandes £50
DVB £40m

Just 3 CDM’s that have gone to other clubs that would arguably improve what we have:

Partey £42m
Höjbjerg £15m
Allan £20m

depending on how much we got for Pogba we could easily have signed the two that we signed plus anyone one of the 3 CDM’s and been in profit or broken even and come out of it with a better overall and more committed midfield.
No one offered anything like that though otherwise he would have been sold. If we got offered anything over 50 mill now we should bite their hand off. I think we will offer a stupid contract, but he will turn it down

I never thought he was consistent Juventus. His performances were massively overhyped because he would bang in a 30 yarder

He deffo was more creative and it helped for sure having much better players around him. It raised his game.

It was only the summer before last we had people living in fantasy land saying we should only sell him to Real Madrid if they paid at least £100 million. I still don't know how anyone could have thought that was even conceivable.

Hopefully the club and fans won't hold on to silliness of 100-150 million and are able to let him go for some money back after extending his contract.

Let the market decide his price and take it as a lesson. I'd rather see him enjoying what few good years left and see what he can or can't do elsewhere if that's what he wants. Please lets not turn this into 6 years.

Perez has never wanted him. I suspect he goes to Juve on a free in 20 months or we manage to offload to PSG next summer.
Either way its the most disappointing United signing ever.
At least Sanchez was only here briefly, Pogba will be 5 or 6 years

Sanchez was the most disastrous financial signing we ever made but Pogba has been the most disappointing. As you say though, at least Sanchez didn't waste a spot on the pitch many times unlike Pogba who's been a complete waste for 4 years and will most likely continue to be so for another year or so.

A year ago I'd be dreading the sale of Pogba. But with Bruno and VdB added to the team alongside Fred and Scott looking like footballers, I'd be much more open to letting him go.

I think he has an incredible mix of talent and physique. But his skill set just isn't what we need at this point for our team. He can play only one position which is the most advanced midfielder on the left of a 3. It's a formation that with our current players, puts an enormous amount of creative responsibility on him while taking away Bruno's best position. You can't be that dependent on one player who isn't consistent.

Our current formation hopes to effectively use his best asset, which is his passing range, while taking the main creative burden away from him. In this formation, if allowed to execute from deep, he can open teams up with ease. But that just can't happen consistently in the PL with teams setting up with hard working midfielders who will always outwork him and allow him no time on the ball. On his best days he can avoid the press but when he can't he becomes a complete defensive liability which is a shame.

If you add the constant media circus from his agent to the aforementioned tactical inflexibility, it becomes difficult to justify his stay here. I hope he still finds a way to make this a successful season, but after that I wouldn't blame the club for selling him, provided they re-invest the funds, which is another can of worms.

He was poor. Gave away the ball more often than not.
Again, looked disinterested.

Van De Beek coming on brought about more space and movement than him.

Thinks it's time to be done with him.

His head isn't in it. Outstanding player on his day but sadly his day comes in spurts of a few games every few months. At this point, I would honestly sell to the highest bidder and hopefully get two players for the cash - or a Sancho (but I appreciate real life isn't Football Manager and we have Ed Woodw@nker in charge).

I have said it before impact sub was perfect for him and being backup for Bruno also perfect role for him. Move on and get similar player like him but with lower transfer fee and much lower wages as impact sub like what he did today and also the game against Spurs 1-1 last season.

Certainly makes a difference coming off the bench. Although we didn't buy him back for that. He thrives with good players around him. Bruno and VDB with MacT or Matic in a diamond.

I'd love to see him find his feet again. Has been really poor. Not of any use to us at all playing like this. Needs to impress so we can move him on.

I think we need to accept that he isn't the player we need right now and he also doesn't want to be at the club.

I'd ship him out in January. It's the first time I've thought this, big fan of Pogba but it's just not worked out and is a distraction.

Each time i read the caption of this thread i can't help but mumble "Yes" he's out of his depth and should be booted out in January.

Same here. Always liked the player as he's such a fun player to watch. But with Bruno and hopefully VDB I think we could have two attack minded midfielders who fit us and don't create a tactical headache either. As gifted as Pogba is, and his ability is twice either of those two, he needs the team built around him and we can't afford to now spend that much just to tailor make a team for him and possibly have to remove Bruno etc in the process. At the end of the day he's not a real CM and we need those to win the middle of the park.

So yes, I think it's time to part ways and strengthen the rest of the team and be better for it.

Agree with this, pogba is a player with great ability but at this point he's just not fitting into the team. With bruno and VDB, we have the role of a creative no. 10 covered.

I'd say we need a DM and CB much not at this point of time. If we can get in the range of 50-60 million from him, it might be decent business.

I don't think we have much choice now. I doubt he'll sign a new deal and it would be a disaster to let an unmotivated Pogba stay and leave on a free - he'll be useless.

Knowing this club though I wouldn't put it past us. We'll probably reject £50m because we want £52.5 or some shit.

My worry is that we'll hand him a mega contract extension.

Always been a huge fan but he hasnt lived up to the high expectations expected from everyone at the club. For me his best position is left forward and as far away from the defensive side of the game as possible. Hes an absolute liability playing in the middle and requires two defensive minded midfielders to function properly. It's either bruno vbd or pogba in front of a front three and we cant afford anyone of them playing in the middle with our defence being weak, especially against the better teams. Would take 60m and cut our losses.

He is on big wages, highest outfield in the league probably, and is very valuable asset, and we are better without him in many games. We were probably robbed of the chance of 100m this summer but if we have to sell to buy big as this summer's muted spending suggests then it is surely worth the debate

£50m wouldn't even buy you one of his calves.

Use Thiago transfer fee as a guide, and also factor in that football economy is even worse in December or next summer.

In this current market and given his current form and age, we’d be lucky to get £50m for him.

I like Pogba exactly how he was played yesterday. As an impact sub. He also seems to play with a bit of a chip on his shoulder when he has to come in from off the bench. He may be one of the most talented players in the world, but if you don't put in the effort to go along with that talent then it's not going to amount to much, and with the depth that we have in midfield, Pogba should be on the bench...

Next summer he has one year left on his deal, Juve and Real will come in but it won't be anywhere near what we paid. Id say £45+10/15m in add ons would be fair.
I doubt they are interested, and not for that price. Will be a lot lower.

I'd sell him without hesitation. He will be 28 and will be asking for 5 year contract at 350,000-400,000 a week. This is crazy money to pay for player who performs 10 games a year and who will be on decline in 2 years. For last 4 years we were giving him excuses - oh, he needs to adapt to PL, oh needs good players around him, oh it's all Mourinho's fault..... Give me a brake.... Compared to him Bruno came with pride for club, with passion, with hunger to play and deliver.
Sell, sell, sell while we still can get something.

I highly doubt he's close to some city players.

Pogba is a classy player but we don’t get the best out of him and I don’t think we ever will. Get £60m+ for him next Summer and I’ll be satisfied reinvest that money in a DM and we can push on as a club.

Too many fans have no clue about the nuances of the game and only understand players who leg it around all game and 'put a shift in'.

Typical mentality of many fans of english football. And why technically gift players often get criminally undervalued in english football.

There's a lot of subtly going on in Pogba's game and he's bloody brilliant.

......

Didn't take long. So much for me not understanding the nuances of the game. At least you're up to speed anyway ;)

If Real want to sign him in the summer it would be the right time to do the deal. With Fernandes now in the team, we need a more defensively astute player. If Real are still skint, a deal involving Valverde to add to our Uruguayan connection would be amazing. That is assuming we can’t get Camavinga of course.
