Should we consider selling Pogba?

Compare Pogba to Spurs Hoijberg today. That was how a top level CM should play.

I still have absolutely now idea on how he should be used.

Can’t sell Pogba in today’s market we‘d lose a fortune and Ole hasn’t the balls to bench him, so feck knows

The number of arguments that have been made for this guy is amazing really.

1) Isn't suited to 4-2-3-1
2) Isn't a DM
3) Isn't a CAM
4) Play him on the left side of 4-3-3. Spoiler alert, we already tried and he was still fecking shit
5) Mourinho is bullying him
6) He's unfit
7) He's back from injury
8) He was injured 6 months ago
9) He won the world cup
10) He had coronavirus
11) A player of his skillset shouldn't be forced to track back. Judging by today's defending, I would agree
12) He needs better players around him to thrive. He can't do it all by himself
13) He's a workhorse (wtf)
14) Ole doesn't know how to use him (oh but he seemed like he did when he first came, what changed?)

A plethora of arguments I've seen made for this guy.
You forget the current day excuse... he had covid! And unlike ALL other covid positive players, he's apparently totally fecked for it. It is incredible.

We have Bruno, Pogba, and now VdB who seem to excel in the same position (I might be wrong about the latter, but it's the impression I have).

We're definitely playing him out of position, but if he's gonna be second choice for his favored position we should consider if selling him would fund a couple of better suited players.

Just don't expect to get anything near what we paid for him...his performances since returning wouldn't justify anything more than 50M tbh.
How many times has he looked world class? Not too many over 4 seasons. He's looked garbage far more times. We showed last season that we can be as good, if not better, without him.
To all those who think he's great, how many seasons are you going to wait until he turns in consistently good performances. Look at how Bruno transformed the team instantly when he arrived in January. That is what we all expected of Pogba but he has never delivered like that. Get rid.

He seems to lose possession of the ball facing our goal between our box and the half way line - he seems too pedestrian at times - he is hassled from behind by players closing him down and he often turns into trouble or loses the ball - he needs to be facing the other way, running forward with the ball being able to see what’s in front of him - our setup is all wrong.

Does anyone have a stat on:

A) how many penalties he has given away
B) how many times he has been Lost possession in the build up to an opposition goal?

Can remember many instances of both now but would love some facts

He comes across as having absolutely zero respect for Ole as a manger. Don‘t know if there’s a manager out there who could get the best out of him, but Ole’s not the one, that’s for sure.

He has the skillset and ceiling to be a generational midfielder but cannot put it together consistently and his bottom level is just atrocious.

I simply don't think he is a guy who makes a team go up a few levels. He's one of those players who would make a great team even stronger but never would he drag a middle of the road team to higher levels.

That's my take, hopefully Zidane still pines for him because I think at this point its best for all parties if he is sold.

We should take what ever is offered for him, if anybody makes an offer for him, I wouldn't; we'll never get anywhere near what we paid for him but at least we wont be paying his wages. The real question though is why we bought him in the first place.

He's got everything it takes to be a great midfielder, size, power, skill, but he's inconsistent, shirks 50/50 tackles, is careless with the ball, doesnt chase back and is far too easily knocked off the ball. And to top it all I really dont think he ever wanted to return.

Even Fergie would have trouble, but he would have come down on Pogba so hard he would have been screaming to his agent to get him out!

Some have been calling him overrated for ages while others are beginning to wake up to reality just now. Imo he's a talented footballer but not with the right mindset. He needs a manager to sort him out in terms of tactical discipline and competitive mentality. Jose was right for that but it seems things didn't work out between the two.

No doubt his market value decreased this season and I'm not sure he's a +100M player right now. The question is, will he be one again?

He seems to think that other players shouldnt tackle him but stand back and admire him, then when they do tackle him he waves his arms at the ref and falls on his arse looking for a free kick.

Gets ball, keeps ball, loses ball - that's Pogba in a nutshell.

The moment Pogba was brought back during the last few games of last season the wheels came off and we struggled; he slowed our play down and messed up our rhythm.

He's got the skills but not the attitude, Ive been saying that since the day he arrived.

Yes, plus Fergie would have no hesitation to bench him, although that said Jose did bench him and got panned for it.

It makes me wonder if there isnt a clause in his contract re not being benched, it would make Oles reluctance to do so make sense.

Incredible, a year and a half after Roy Keane shrugged off that hard done by interview Pogba gave to Sky. Literally nothing has changed with him.

Actually never thought of that ...you may be right

There are no options with pogba. The suits won't allow him to be sold or loaned. Even if they would, I doubt Madrid or PSG are interested in him at this point, even at 40-50mil. There are no other possible destination clubs for him. A loan back to Juventus would be embarrassing and wouldn't really solve anything. What's left? Bench him, long term. Let him show there's an ounce of desire in him(I don't believe there is) through training and substitute/cup appearances. Let him leave at the end of his contract on a free with himself and the club mutually embarrassed. What a disaster signing he's been. Much worse, and more expensive, than DiMaria. Lose, Lose, Lose

How about we drop him first? He can use the free time to shoot noodle commercials with Ed on Instagram.

I think Ole is between a rock and hard place with Pogba. If he drops him, he can (and probably will) create unrest in the dressing room, then downing tools and try to get Ole fired - which then the club has to make a decision to sell a 80m player for a massive loss or just dump Ole for another manager that may work better with Pogba. I believe Ole has not many choices but to persist with him for the time being and I'm now not too sure about giving Pogba a new contract, just feel like he's acting as if he's bigger than the club.

We bought him for €105 million, his current market value is around €80 million. He is already 27 years old, hasn’t helped win anything for United, and worse still, hasn’t played five good matches in a row And to add to the misery, he’s a prick on insane wages living in Covid times. Which club will even consider bidding for him?

I don’t think it makes any financial sense to sell him for 60-odd million. We were too slow to cash in (like always) and are now literally stuck with him for another two years, at least, whether we like it or not. This has been such a disastrous buy from United perspective, especially that managers have tried to build the team around him, to their own detriment.

The most fun part is that we let him go for free to Juventus. Shambles

Priority of selling the deadwoods/joker:
1. CB - Maguire, Lindelof, Baily
2. DM - Pogba
3. Manager - Ole

I don't know what to do with him. One of the most wildly up and down players I can remember of recent history. When he's clicking he is the best player on the pitch, pinging passes effortlessly and gliding past players with a frightening combination of skill and power. But when he's off, he's a possession liability that lacks any sort of defensive understanding or awareness and doesn't have the requisite motor to make up for it. He's defensive shortcomings aren't an issue when he's "good" Pogba, because he'll create so much going forward and retain possession so well that it won't hurt the team as much. But when he's the current version, it's fecking shocking revelation of our midfield 3 with how easily we are bypassed by a team with a decent counter attacking plan.

Pogba simply isn't what we need as a club fighting to rebuild and close the gap against the top teams, because the squad around him isn't good enough to get away with his bad times, and I don't think in the PL can a team afford to have a player completely off it with how fast paced the league has become.

The best case scenario we have besides selling him is that a manager could come in and either get him to move the ball quicker with less touches, or give him a defined defensive role that he commits to. Either one would mean that he covers a part of his game that is currently a liability, and would make him much more passable as a player when he isn't on form.

Exactly, at Juventus, he had players who did the dirty work and a maestro. He was just complimenting them. But honestly, any other midfielders would have look great alongside Pirlo, Vidal and Marchisio

Since we have no right winger of note, would make sense to try to play pogba and bruno in a 4-2-2-2 formation with adequate defensive cover.

I think he can only play for team that’s at the top. He would go Bayern and look incredible. His a YouTube, highlights player that needs quality and protection around him. Never a player that can transform a team in transition and 100% can’t be a player you build a team around. That’s why his a sideman for France.

Lots of players would look better at Bayern but only as better players carried them
