Should we consider selling Pogba?

I agree, when he came back for the last few games we began to struggle and one of the reasons was because Pogba wasnt protecting the back 4 like Fred had been. On top of that was his showboating, shirking tackles and defensive responsibilities and constantly giving the ball away. I would much rather have Fred in the team than Pogba because it is a TEAM not the Paul Pogba Show Boat XI!

Agreed. Surely Ole can see this.

More and more are coming to realise this, surely even his fan club on this forum can find no more excuses for his consistently mediocre performances?
Dont bet on it, there is a certain core group who would kiss his ass if he came into their house on Christmas day and pissed on their kids.
He is exactly the character Paul Ince was when SAF binned him off to inter. A big time Charlie with an out of control ego who thinks he is above the gaffer, the club and the dirty work. +

As for people saying he would tear it up at Real, can imagine the tantrums when the crowd got on his back there after one of his lackadaisical strolling performances, he would be in bits.

And last but not least, in response to the "but he won a world cup" brigade, so did kleberson, Alan Boghossian, Stephane Guivac'h and Jesus Navas, it means feck all.

R Kelly got in trouble for something like that.

Though I agree with what you say re Ince and his ego, at least he produced the goods more often than not and was a great midfield player. And yes, the Real supporters would certainly not be as patient with Pogba as we have been, they even turned on Ronaldo at least once!

Spot on, at least ince could be counted on until near the end

We would get £60-70 mill tops if we sold him in January. We would get £40 maybe 50 in the summer. We ought to sell him and put it to a top CD. We have VDB who can put in as good a display as Pogba usually does at least. I hope to god we dont give him another 4 year contract and £350k a week, but thats what will probably happen. They will spin it as its like a brand new signing or some shit

If we end up giving him a new contract i will lose my shit. And if they do its Oles head that will roll.

Most probably we will give him anew contract , before selling him next summer.
Apparently woody believes that he ll get a better price doing so.

I can't wait for the day that we sell Pogba. I like the guy, but he just doesn't have the mentality United need at this point. He will fit in perfectly for a Galacticos team where he isn't counted on to lead or dictate a game. He's a great complimentary piece, but not a cornerstone type player that United need for that price.

The sooner we sell him the sooner we stop paying his wages so even if we get shot of him for less than £45 million we will recoup some money back.

I think we should try selling him but I doubt anybody will pay anywhere close to £80 million. He is just too inconsistent to be of great value for money. For 4 years we finding excuses for him and honestly he is just not worth it.

Fabrizio Romano is telling anyone who will listen that Pogba would be a Juve player but for COVID19, the chances of him being willing to sign a new contract are small to non-existent IMO.

We should have taken stock of the Pogba situation long before he entered the last two years of his deal. Its been clear for a good while that he wants to go. The club should have accepted the reality of gravity and gone with it.

When Coutinho wanted to leave Liverpool, they had the foresight to see how it could benefit them if they were able to sell at a good price and do it. That sale has been the basis for their later success as it funded Alisson and Van Dijk. Have we benefitted from doing the opposite, desperately clinging onto a player who wants out?

Now Pogba has less than two years left on his deal, we are dreaming if we think selling him will help us fund a similar rebuild.

No way is that possible. He is played in the wrong system and that's probably why he's been failing at United. I know he's still not showing the signs of a player worth around 90 mil but he's a player like Bruno who likes to be part of the attacking midfield in opening up defenses but instead he's played deep by all the managers who have been at this club and Ole. It is sad that we haven't had a decent Defensive midfielder since Carrick who could sit behind the attacking midfielders and clean up effectively behind them. I do not consider Matic anymore because he's lost his pace and quickness he had under Conte in their title winning season. We need somebody like Saul, Rice or Camavinga to allow attacking midfielders to go up and attack the opponent midfielders. Pogba needs to play as an 8 alongside Bruno and as part of the front 5 with a defensive midfielder (6) sticking close and in-between the center halves. Only then will VDB able to swap for either Bruno or Pogba and assume the attacking role. Mctominay can play the DM role for now but he's too young and go out of position and he cannot pick a pass like the above mentioned or Busquets or even Fabinho. We need a center half, defensive midfielder and a proper right winger and only then we will have a decent first XI and then we should go around looking for backups. There is a lot of work ahead and I for one sadly feel that Ole will not be at the wheel for long. I'm a huge fan of his and I want him to resign before the Glazers and Woodward make a case out of it and sack him. Spineless idiots holding this club back from a long time and it's showing and will show immensely this season. Let's not pin this on Pogba along for those who feel Pogba is useless, I think he's been useless too but I don't blame just him.

Youre right, but all the while he's putting in crap performances and supposedly getting injured and sick we're paying his wages, we need to get shot of him and show the other players, the rest of the PL, EUFA, FIFA and anybody else who's interested that nobody is bigger than The Club!

like seriously what planet are you living in, we have tried system after system for this guy, brought in player after player to try get the best out of him, played him where he wanted and hes still strolls about the pitch doing step overs when we are 2-0 down or whatever, needs to go for the sake of the team, not any surprise our best performances came when he was not in the side,

We could play Pogba alongside any or all of Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Bryan Robson, Paul Ince, Bobby Charlton, David Beckham, Pat Crerand, Nobby Stiles, Norman Whiteside, the best midfielders I ever saw in a United shirt and still dont think he would produce the sort of consistent performances expected and required of him.

I'm tired of constantly making excuses for Pogba. We've heard this all before, at the end of the day it comes down to his attitude and mentality.

I don’t want us to give him a pay rise, sign new deal with same or less wages or sold. This is the issue ever since Sir Alex & David Gill left, we are so afraid to lose players for less of their value and we end up keeping them like Romero/Rojo or give them new contract with improve wages as well. I want both Ole & Ed realise we need to change this, we can’t give Pogba a new improve wages. We shouldn’t be afraid to lose him as we have enough quality promising players that we can build in attack (Greenwood, Martial, Rashford & Bruno). We are football club trying to win not business company trying to get money back from what we invested.

What will it take for some people to finally see that Paul Pogba and Manchester United are not a match? He has never fitted in with the clubs philosophy's and attitudes preferring instead to think that the club and everybody else must fit in with him. He has all the skills required to be a top, top player but not the attitude, ethics or sense of The Club. Maybe some of it or most of it even is down to his agent, Raiola, who clearly has no love for United and no doubt would love to sour relations between his client and the club, as long as it doesn't cost him money of course; but if thats the case then Pogba hasn't even got the sense to see it. For the good of both of Manchester United and Paul Pogba they must part company asap!

No unless we have a world class alternative.
Ive always believed in the old adage "you're only as good as your last performance" so, judging Pogbas recent performances stretching back to when he returned to the team for the last few games last season, he cannot be considered "world class" so we dont need a world class alternative to replace him, just somebody who does his job, is consistent, can influence his team mates, doesnt shirk his duties and plays for the team.

We'd be crazy to give him a new contract.

For me its slightly different to the other contracts we've handed out to frings players to, supposedly, protect the value of the asset.

If he is willing to sign we should give him a new deal because he's a player that we will always be able to sell for a good price, but i think we'd be making a mistake giving him a pay increase. He just hasn't earned it.

As for whether we should sell him, I'd probably lean towards yes. He has this mystique about him being a special player, and he does have a rather unique skillset for a player in his position, but does he really produce an outstanding display very often? I dont think so.

I'm not up for signing him down on a pay rise though. How long does he have on his deal, 2 or 3 years? Just sell next summer and move on in my opinion.

They can say what they want, Juventus cannot afford him. They simply can't. Eyes were bigger than their stomach with the Ronaldo deal.

I'd be happy to give VDB a proper shot now, Pogba has been here for long enough now and for the majority of it he's not looked close to the real deal. He's a luxury CM who will perhaps add a goal to a 3-0 scoreline when we're cruising against lower opposition. Against opposition equal or above he rarely makes a difference.

If Pogba is signing a new contract which is likely with only 2 years left on his current deal (unless he decides to leave on a free), he will no doubt get a pay increase that would be close to DDG at around 370k.

I'd doubt there are any clubs that will satisfy Ed's demands in the fee he'd be looking for unfortunately...

Definitely sell, but who can afford his transfer fee and probably 300/350k a week, PSG is the only club I think might like him as he's a bit of a french poster boy along with Mbappe. He would suit PSG's midfield I think.

We'd be crazy to give him a new contract.
We are known for such craziness... it started with Rooney getting 6 years contract in 13, continue to this day with De Gea, a past it keeper becoming the most expensive player in EPL, fecking Jones getting 4 year contract... I am sure they would give Pogba a 350k contract soon.

This.

We actually have a decent team man for man wise. And still Pogba is poor.

I'm surprised it took this long for the majority of the caf to see this :wenger:

I've been banging on about this for seasons on end and got shut down with "but he's our best player" drivel.

Does anyone think the original £80m transfer factored into the Sancho approach this summer?

Like Sancho, Pogba was the standout player who we thought would elevate us, but he hasn’t exactly set the world alight consistently. Maybe thats due to the inferior talent around him or he doesn’t have the right midfielders next to him since he’s been here. Are we hesitant at getting our hand burnt on spending money on the first choice big money transfer?

I think he’s leaving next summer though.

I actually think he is the biggest weak link in our chain. Maybe Lindeloff is up there as well.

Perhaps @Clermontois knows the feeling?

I would absolutely consider selling him if the price was right, I don't think he is any way absolutely integral to our midfield and selling him would allow us to sign players in multiple positions of need, I think as others have said before he is pretty luxury. There aren't many times i've been wowed by his dominance on the pitch, like at all.
