Should Rashford make the England squad?

Crazy the drop in form over a summer, in the World Cup he really should of played more but he's rightfully missed out here. Hopefully he'll get a kick up the backside but also he will probably go the Sancho route and get worst after omission.

I mean another way to look at it is that I'd be annoyed at this point if he was picked ahead of Amad for the cup final.

If Amad was English the idea of him being in the Enfland squad based on playing about 3 games would be laughable, but it would be enough to pick him over Rashford.

So really not only is it the right decision but he's nowhere near. If he'd been picked someone else who'd worked hard and played well all season or for at least part of the season, would be staying home. That's something he needs to get into his head if it isn't too late already.

Respect Southgate for making the logical decision to leave him out of the squad. Rashford's form has nosedived this season together with the high profile disciplinary incident. As a United fan I hope Rashford recovers from this setback and puts in better performances but on this season's showing, he certainly doesn't deserve to be there.

No way. England has so many other better players to choose from.

Rightfully dropped and if ten Hag had any sense he'd also have been dropped six months ago for United.

Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he's back in the starting eleven on Saturday.

Yep. Just shows you how weak Eth is. This guy sees him week on week and still kept picking him. Delusional.

Hopefully, it gives him a kick up the backside. But I fear it’s just going to be another “woe is me” reaction.

If (God forbid) Southgate is appointed as our next manager he'll have a dressing room revolt to deal with on day one

8 goals in 42 games and too much moping around. There was no way he was getting in.

I get not having him in but has he been much worse than Grealish?

Feels like a crossroad in his career if this is the case, how he responds to this will be really interesting to watch. Feel sorry for him on a personal level.

Hw seems to be carrying injuries this season so the summer off will do him a world of good.

Paul Merson showing his football knowledge saying he is Shocked at Rashford commission and that Marcus can always be relied on.

When does the post from him come on twitter claiming he asked to be left out for personal reasons to save value to his brand I wonder

Can't have any complaints, though I do think he would have offered something coming off the bench.

Southgate was still picking Sterling ahead of him even when he was in red-hot form. Is this actually that much of a surprise?

I bet someone will get injured between now and the Euros, and Rashford will get called up as a replacement. Feels like the inevitable outcome of all this drama.

I'm sure we'll get a tweet from him today saying he's gutted to not be involved but now its time to get the head down and work hard.

Isn't this a 33-man squad to be whittled down to 26?

He's out.

No, not been good enough for some time, players should be selected on recent performances.

In fairness - that squad is the most unbalanced I have seen in my life

No depth and quality in defence, defensive midfield or in attack - and then tons of world-class wingers/attacking midfielders

Injuries or suspensions to Stones, Rice, Kane and Pickford and England will be well below the best sides

Rashford on his instagram:

”Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament.”

Good news all round. A good rest for Marcus for once, a potential kick in the arse for his attitude and maybe a chance to take a proper look at his career path (including a hard look at those around him). Good for the players called up in his stead and a potential problem point for appointing Southgate.

Has this not been the issue for coming on a decade now?

What's he done lately to deserve it?

Based on this season, Southgate would be a fool to pick him.

And it's not like he's got anything truly special hidden below his current surface layer of utter mediocrity (at best).

Yes, he does have something more - of course he does. But that would fall into the "good" category much more than the "great" category. He isn't a player you pick just because he is that guy. He isn't that guy, that's the (sad, at least for United fans) truth of the matter.

Can't have any complaints sadly. The fact that you can go from 5 goals to 30 and then to 8 in three seasons suggests something is not right and you can't just blame it on the teams or the managers, especially when you look at the likes of Palmer for Chelsea. His career seems at a bit of a crossroads at this point.

Obviously not. He’s 2nd choice for the 8th best team in England.

Didn't deserve to be in, can only hope he uses this as motivation to turn it around next season.

Disappointing. He's a big game player. His goalscoring record against top teams speaks for itself. Having someone like that on the bench would've been huge.

Kinda shocked but for the wrong reasons...I'm more shocked that waistcoat had the balls to drop Marcus more so than Marcus not being good enough to get into the squad.

For Marcus I don't think it's that big of a deal, Sancho is nowhere near the squad, Sterling is miles off it, he belongs in that company rather than the younger more hungry Gordon/Eze.

Also he can't have good memories from the last tournament after the penalty miss.

So all things considered 100% the correct decision.
