Should Rashford make the England squad?

Rightly hasn't made it. Gordon and Eze have performed better than he has.

Right decision but I'm surprised, thought Southgate would still take him.

He can have no complaints.

He's been fecking appalling this season. Would have been unfair on others if he'd made it.

You made some good points on Gordon and Foden. But what moment of magic can Rashford make? He is totally out of form and out of sort the entire season. Pick anyone from the mid-table teams, including playing out of position, would still be better option than Rashford.

Magical goal against City, excellent opener against Arsenal and a vital equaliser against Liverpool in the cup. Name a mid-table left winger who has scored against all three of those teams this season. Out of form or not he can always produce a “moment”. That said, I think it’s best for him and United that he isn’t playing this summer.

Personally, I'm happy to see he's out, jogging on the field is not acceptable in professional football. Now the cards are on ETH if he stays, hes got time to speak with him, boost his moral, set some goals etc. He or the new coach got plenty time for it as it's obvious when even Southgate doesn't want him. Let him suck our blood one more year and if nothing changes ship him to Saint Quentin.

I'm a big fan of Marcus and think at his best he's absolutely devastating and brings something the rest of the squad doesn't have.

However he's been dreadful all season and the fact he's lost his place in a utd side that finished 8th and has been playing a bunch of kids up front for the most part says it all.

It's a real shame for him but he doesn't deserve to be in the England squad. Hopefully the summer off will give him some time to get back on track

Credit to Southgate for that selection. Rashford doesn't deserve to be there on form regardless of our bias (both for and against).

There's worse players like Quansah and Wharton but you imagine Southgate is bedding them in for a possible future in the NT and they won't be in the final selection.

Probably buzzing at not making it he can go on the piss in Ireland all summer

In all seriousness I hope this gives him the slap he needs he’s obviously miles off his best with an attitude of a fecking idiot to boot.

Time to take a look now and see if he really fancies this football thing and is willing to put in the effort to get back in to the England team on club form alone or is it going to be retires from international football and continues the dreadful form hes been in last 12 months.

He never was an integral part of Southgate's plans which makes the discussion redundant. Had he been, Southgate would have had a decision in his hands. As things stand, dropping him for an in-form player or one that adds another tactical option is the most natural thing. It isn't the form if punishment some people think it is (or want it to be).

Deserved but my heart genuinely goes out for him, he'll be gutted.

It would do him a world of good to be left out and have a summer to think about his entitlement and application.
Yep, was going to post something along that line. I think him missing out could (hopefully!) be the kind of wake up call that he needs. If even that doesn't do much, then that's another level to the problem.

He absolutely deserves to be left out based on form, attitude and application. No way should a player produce the performances / lack of application he has for the last 12 months and still get in ahead of other more deserving options.

Its a brave call - given the PR machine Rashford has compared to many of the others - but it's the right call. And hopefully it's the kind of jolt he needs and we'll see a positive reaction and more commitment next season.

A shame, as he's got all the attributes to be such an amazing player. This will hurt him a lot but I genuinely hope this motivates him to be a better footballer. On the other side though, I hope that his ego won't convince him that it's United's fault and he could try to leave this summer. I'm hoping for the first option, but I see it as a win-win for United either way.

Gutted but understandable.

Less understandable when you see Grealish in the squad, mind.

If this was likely to bother him that much then he would perhaps have put in more effort for United to make his case for being included.

Looking forward to the social media statement from him though. Nice cheap words.

No surprise, bookies didn’t much rate his chances.

Right and only call to make. He's been abysmal.

Hopefully it lights a fire under him and les him have some time to reset.

I’m surprised but can’t argue with it. Hopefully he uses it as motivation next season, because he needs to be much better.

Watch him have a world class season next year and then go right back to being shite after. Only being half serious.

No I don't think so.

Can argue England are weak of natural options on the left and everyone who can play there has had a poor season (Sterling, Grealish, etc.) but then there's so many attacking players who could fill in there who've had better seasons, and even when you get down to the more mid level/usually only get a call up when everyone else is "injured" level players, there's a few who have had a better season than Rashford.

And I'll still defend him from a lot of the more silly criticism, but from a pure form point of view he doesn't get in the squad. If he does it will be based on what he's done in the past, which Southgate tends to go heavily with, but usually results in us having underperforming players in the England team, or subbing off Saka for fecking Sterling in a world cup quarter final.

He could have compensated for lack of goals by putting himself about a bit and becoming someone who you can put on when you want someone to badger the defence, making a nuisance of themselves. You wouldn't likely start with that player but it's a useful option off bench. Especially over the duration of a tournament.

Given his profile and reputation, making an effort during the season and being that player would have been enough to secure his place in squad, inspite of his poor form in front of goal.

Hopefully this will be wake-up call, but I doubt it. Sadly suspect he'll still play with the application of a retired ex-pro at Soccer Aid, sulking that he doesn't get the adulation his salary demands.

Should never be going to the Euros following his performances and behaviour.

Plenty more time for us to mastermind a move away for him. Although, I fully expect the topless, training-alone Instagram posts with positivity lines to be flooding before his return to our pre-season tour.

Definitely deserves to miss out. One of the very worst left wingers in the PL currently. His decline has been monumental. Were we still asking for Dele Ali to be included when he declined in a similar fashion?

Should be a wake up call to the lad England isn't united.

Makes ten hags decisions to play him through the season no matter what even more baffling.

Not a surprise, really. He'll be 27 later this year and should be at his peak, but he's looked absolutely dreadful for the last 12 months. No goals since March and only a goal or assist every 253 minutes this season (compare that to Cole Palmer's goal/assist every 80 mins) means it is pretty hard to make the case for taking him.

Hopefully being dropped at United AND by England might wake him up from his own delusion that he’s performed acceptably and no one should question his form or commitment, he comes across as someone who actually needs something major happening to open his eyes to what everyone sees.

Hopefully a whole summer off with a proper pre season and a couple of months of serious reflection and a new footballing regime at United will motivate him to perform properly, the least required regardless of form or goals/assists is putting in 100% every game and with us having bare minimum games next season him being burnt out can’t be used as an excuse at all.

Rightfully dropped and if ten Hag had any sense he'd also have been dropped six months ago for United.

Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he's back in the starting eleven on Saturday.
