Shkodran Mustafi.

Cool name. In Urdu his last name is an adjective for a person who has tendered his resignation.

Thanks to Google translate, seems this lad is a plant who will grow:

Shkodran Mustafi could be one of the players to leave the Valencia CFat the end of the season as Manchester United and Bayern Munich are trying to take over its services. The German plant is one of the few valencianistas players are showing a good level this season and seems to be willing to leave the team Mestalla in the market next summer.

Mustafi is one of the key men of Gary Neville, who does not want to lose face next season but knows it will be hard to keep him. Just in case, the Valencia has already begun the search for plants that can offer the guarantees provided Mustafi. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are the two teams who have expressed their willingness to seize German to bolster their defense.

The Old Trafford are looking plants guarantees to strengthen their defense next season as Jose Mourinho believes it is one of the weaknesses of the team and hopes that the British leaders make an effort to hire the German. Bayern meanwhile, has been showing interest in Mustafi since last season because they are aware that because of their youth will become one of the largest plants of the German team and want him on their team because there will grow.

Really happy to see links with this lad. Fan of his, he was good at Sampdoria and he has had an even better time of it at Valencia, being a ray of light in a dire team (on performances/results at least, not on paper). Hope the links are genuine and we push ahead with this. Would rather we buy this type of centre back than a younger one as I feel they'd block the young talent we already have coming through in this position at the club. Only centre back I'd want over Mustafi is Bonucci and I wouldn't think that's a very realistic option anyway to be honest.

rock solid defender, can play central defense and right fullback. scores the odd header, too. physically really robust and pretty good on the ball, premier league material. had no trouble finding his way into valencia's starting 11 as well as the german national team. i'd welcome this transfer.

He's an odd fit as a replacement for Hummels. Süle would be the more interesting player in my opinion. It really depends what Tuchel's plans are in defense. Mustafi + Sokratis are a bit too similar for my taste to play as a centerback pair. I'm also not sure what they plan with Ginter and if he ever gets an extended run as a centerback. In theory they have enough centerbacks in the team anyway and Mustafi won't be cheap.

This signing makes so much sense on so many levels that you just know we're probably not in for him. No brainer for me personally.

He's probably one of the top three centre back prospects in Europe at the moment in terms of attainability and performance level. I hope we're in the mix if he gets moved on by Valencia.

I think Varane and Marquinhos will stay in their clubs.

Laporte, Mustafi, Stones and Koulibaly are the players I can see moving.

Mustafi would be a good choice if the rumors are true about Laporte going to City. How much Mustafi would cost? Does he has a release clause like Laporte?

And to add to @Fer's questions, who is better out of Mustafi vs Laporte?

We should certainly be in for him even though he isn't left footed he is pretty good. Better than having to rely on a midfielder as CB and a shitty Rojo.

LVG is going, mate, no need for this left foot - right foot nonsense anymore.

Is he a better player than Otamendi? I was under the impression that Otamendi outperformed him last season at Valencia.

Haven't watched them both play together enough to really say but yeah I think at that time Otamendi was rated the better defender, also the more experienced defender. I also don't think Mustafi is one of the best defenders around but I don't think we can actually get someone like Varane so we need to look in the second tier atm and we need at least one more reliable CB next to Smalling which I think Mustafi could do a good job until we can get someone who is really top tier. Laporte should also be on our radar but I'm not quite sure how available he is. Other option would probably Benatia but he seems to be even more injured than Jones, so probably not a good idea to go for him.

Laporte is IMO both better and has more potential, while also being younger.

Mustafi is probably Smalling's level.

So Laporte is better than Smalling?! Heavy praise.

In FIFA mustafi has a higher ceiling than Laporte. Though to be fair a scout recommended not to buy martial in Fifa 15.

Yeah I don't trust FIFA stats..

I don't rate Smalling near as much as Caf.

OK Fair enough. If Mustafi is as good as Smalling I'd be happy with that all day long.

Haven't seen as much of Laporte, but I know Mangala, Otamendi etc came in with big expectations and haven't yet lived up to it.

Yeah

What I feel is that while Laporte is a good defender he isn't half as good as what people here claim to be. He has the status of an in prime tony Adams. I wouldnt be surprised if he struggled like Mangala is doing or like Benatia at Bayern both of whom were considered as just shy of world class when they were signed

Otamendi was much better than Mustafi last season when they played on the same team, although Mustafi has improved this season.

Mangala was always shit.

The overhyping of Laporte is crazy. Good young centre back but Mustafi right now is the better player, especially if we're talking about taking the ball from an attacker (which is a defender's main job) instead their on the ball skills which is only a bonus attribute in my opinion and not a necessity, although Mustafi's distribution is fine anyway.

Think people are always chasing the name as that gives them some kind of satisfaction or security and Mustafi doesn't offer that as he's not world renowned. Still a top centre back, anyone that gets in this Germany squad off the back of being in such a poor club side I'd say has something about them.
