Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Manchester United

I cannot understand anyone liking this style of football. It is depressing considering that we always talk about how great RVP is or how brilliant Carrick is. The tactics are all wrong and we shouldn't be playing like this.

I don't think anyone likes it, we are just used to cagey football away in Europe. It really should have gotten us the three points all things considered. Shame it didn't, not much else to bitch about.

Anyone who is only taking negatives from tonight is a tool. This was a desperately difficult fixture coming when it has for us. We're a bit all over the place at the moment, trying to stabilise, gain a bit of confidence. We were solid, lacking any real purpose going forward but this is a good result, make no mistake about it.

Shakhtar are a really good side. That's a good point, despite the fact we lost a lead. It wasn't pretty, but it means we can probably qualify with two more home wins. Job done.

I got jitters from that for the last 2 minutes. Glad to see us come away with a point , away in Europe.

I said it during half time that referees a cnut ! Seen nothing to change my mind.
Decent point that despite all the dick wagging at 0-1 they looked dangerous throughout.

Gotta love how positive moyes is. Good result but the tactics approaching this game and every game united have played so far are jut wrong. Too negative and moyes needs to change if he's going to stay here. United aren't a defensive team, moyes should stop trying to turn us into one.

Decent result against 12 men - would've liked to see Nani for Welbeck at some stage, but never mind.

Happy to get a draw there. We done well, Giggs coming on kinda made us lump the ball more, and Clevz was held back. Although Fellaini did have to come off.

We were more organised, Shaktar had possession but created little, got lucky with their goal a bit. Happy enough with how we played, a big step up from our clueless performances of late.

9-17 the fouls.. feck this ref. Seriously Evra and Fellaini got whistled every time they were going to 1vs1..

I dont understand some on here.
I think this has been a decent game,a typical United away CL tie.
It was never going to be easy. OK so we have not set the field alight but really who expected us too.
If offered 1-1 before the start of the game, I would of took it in a heat beat.
I think it's the performance and style of play more than the result. We scored from our only chance which was a mistake by them.

Yes I agree we have played poor away from home in recent years but we just look clueless with the ball, Fellaini isn't working an our better attacking players aren't getting a run of games.

Eh?

Maybe you should feck off and support Stoke, if you're happy with this football.

You're comment was the worst in a long line of twattish comments from so called fans of this team. Get a fecking grip of yourself man. Maybe you should go back to supporting Chelsea.

So this is the first United away tie in the CL you've watched?

We really struggled to get a rhythm going. It felt like every challenge for the ball made the ref blow. Everytime we were pushed off the ball, nothing. That backheel from Fellaini which the ref gave as a free kick broke down a dangerous attack and I still have no idea what he did.

I would have taken a draw beforehand, but that's one of the weakest Shakthar teams for a number of years. We could have beaten them.

Our lack of reaction to the game being tipped on its head is worrying. Game changers on the bench, but we stick with something which isn't working.

What does that mean,We were lucky to get a throw that lead to the goal and also lucky to get away with a pen.

Maybe you should calm down and watch all of our away games in Europe for 10 years and spot the difference. This is who we have been long before Moyes arrived. Most of the posters in this thread would be embarrassed by some of the nonsense they posted, if they weren't so obviously stupid.

This whole forum lark is being rendered pointless by the sheer level of ignorance.

Same set up but we've been far more cohesive in previous European aways.

Plus those tight European aways used to be complemented with some nice, expansive football at home.

We've played like this the whole season.

Some of you in here are so negative that you must get very little enjoyment from watching United, or football in general, even when things are going well.

The angry little man in me wants to jump up and down scream and yell , call Moyes all sorts of names. But the rational side of me sees it yoru way and yes this is exactly how we have played for a good number of years when on the road in the CL, especially in the group stages. Now does this make me entirely happy, no. But obviously this is not any different from what we should be used to.

Now if we want to talk about our overall form this season, well no way to call it good is there. I think alot of fans just want to see some spark from the team.

Could be a very long season for us, something we are not at all used to.

Happy with the draw but not the subs and how we adapted. That wasn't the same as our previous sturdy approach at all

Very true.

The lacking purpose going forward seems to be a recurring problem though, and this did nothing to dispell it. Albeit a difficult place to travel to, but I don't remember having a shot on goal - or even close to one - apart from the goal.

Well you'd take a draw at the start of the game, it's a good result but personally can't help but feel if we'd been a bit more ambitious, with either one more player centrally i.e kagawa or nani out wide we might have got more. But you never know. Either way good result with plenty of positives. Strong performance from Vidic. Smalling did well. With him and Evans fit we've got good competition in defence now as I think we're better off with Vidic and one of Evans/Smalling now when they're playing well, plus these guys need to play to get experience.

I thought Carrick was good, Clev was decent as well, though still want to see more drive from him to make things happen. Good to have RVP back as well.

Good result, good performance in 1st half. We need to keep better possession in the 2nd half.

After the WBA result, its a big improvement.

First away game for Moyes against tough opposition in a notoriously bad place to play. If we'd have gone for a line up as if it was a home game we would have been beaten.

There are a fair few like that, when I used to be on another forum this was one poster, a long time supporter, who did know his football and United history but my lord nothing ever made him happy.

People have incredibly short memories, this is pretty much exactly how SAF would have played it. Watching this game was comforting in a way as it's pretty much what we've been doing for years and it's served us well.

most of us would have taken that draw.

Out of form, about as far away as games can be in this competition, looked a horrible bitter cold night. Got through it ok, and a bit unlucky that ball dropped perfectly for their man.

Still for Moyes to prove he can get us playing with flair, but tonight was never a game for that.
