Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Manchester United

Decent result but one that could have been better had we taken the initiative. Neither side really looked like scoring all night. This is a poor Shakhtar side that was there for the taking. Just wish we would give ourselves a little bit of credit for the attacking talent we have, show faith in it and let them play.

So this is the first United away tie in the CL you've watched?

No, and this was very similar to how we were under Sir Alex in the away games. But the problem is when they equalize, we showed no effort to get the win. Under Sir Alex, we were always looking to win games, but then when the tough champions league away games came, we played on the break. Under Moyes, so far at least, we've not really had a clear game plan or played well in any game apart from the first game of the season and the game against Leverkusen. If we looked more positive in the other games, then it'd be more acceptable, but Moyes has shown himself to lack some balls so far the way we've played.

Same set up but we've been far more cohesive in previous European aways.

Plus those tight European aways used to be complemented with some nice, expansive football at home.

We've played like this the whole season.

Stop blurring the lines to legitimise your moaning. These are a good side and were the only side we were playing tonight. This is what we are like away in Europe for years now, and in the last few years that result is far far from being bad.

good result, so-so performance. Need to control the middle of the park better, thought we'd do that with Carrick, Clevs and Fellaini on!

If they had gone 1-0 up and we came back to rescue a point the general feeling would be completely different to that of now. It was a damn good point and very typical of United away in Europe.
Perception is as fickle as the fan.

Yep.

It's a great result, and decent performance.

Still would have liked to have seen us have a go at the end, but maybe it was safer to keep it tight given their momentum.

Though, thought Giggs was woeful. He now has the CL record too, can we stop now?

Fellaini was a liability, but we were better when he was on :(

You're comment was the worst in a long line of twattish comments from so called fans of this team. Get a fecking grip of yourself man. Maybe you should go back to supporting Chelsea.

Don't get this habit of equaling comments on a forum to support. Like almost everyone on here, I love United. It pains me watching United struggle so I come on here and say so.

The angry little man in me wants to jump up and down scream and yell , call Moyes all sorts of names. But the rational side of me sees it yoru way and yes this is exactly how we have played for a good number of years when on the road in the CL, especially in the group stages. Now does this make me entirely happy, no. But obviously this is not any different from what we should be used to.

Now if we want to talk about our overall form this season, well no way to call it good is there. I think alot of fans just want to see some spark from the team.

Could be a very long season for us, something we are not at all used to.

Then we do it in the many threads which are not the Shaktar away matchday thread.

If I could guarantee that one of our players would be fit for the entire season, it would be Vidic. He's so crucial and our defence looks massively improved with him in it.

By telling somebody else to feck off and support Stoke.

Bollox. Did you watch our first group fixture? Context is always important. You come in looking for the negative, you're obviously going to be satisfied. Fergie will become more deified with each passing week, but we've had plenty of this kind of football away from home in Europe over last number of years. Moyes has his back against the wall at the moment. He needs to hang in there and that's what we did tonight. You can excuse him playing it safe till we get ourselves through this group. The glee of opposition fans at our current problems I can understand. The speed with which our own fans are clambering on the bandwagon is distressing.

You said 'this is what it's like to be shit' and then because I vehemently disagreed with you you said I should go support Stoke. You've made a total idiot of yourself, partly by clearly not understanding European modern football and partly because you equate our tactics tonight with Stoke.

True but thereafter he wasn't for giving us anything. They weren't big decisions - enough to help break up any faltering rhythm we were trying to get going.

This basically - lots of small things that frustrated me, though I accept the throw-in error went our way.

"This is how it feels to be shit" was a tongue in cheek reference to a chant United fans love singing..

I still don't understand how any United fan can be happy with that performance.

Maybe you don't understand how we were set up then? Of course we'd like to score more and hold the ball better, but it was what it was and that's a very very professional performance in one of the hardest places in europe to go.

We weren't shite and we didn't play like Stoke. It's simple really.

As we learned to appreciate under SAF, the results are all that matter in the group stages. I think satisfied better describes the reaction, nobody is particularly happy about the results or performances so far this season.

Kiss and make up.

I was happy with the performance especially first half we dropped a little too deep for my liking second half but a point away at Donetsk is always a good point.

We were set up defensively but struggled to create. It was very frustrating stuff and there was an inevitabilityabout their equalizer.

Aside form setting up the goal, Fellaini was poor tonight.

Other then tha thought it was a decent performance, maybe a little too rushed and perhaps we should have kept the ball better, but why did Valencia track his man only half way into the box and then calmly stand and watch him put the ball into the net?!?!?!!?

Very annoying, up to that point we handled everything they threw at us and when we did counter, it looked like we could grab a second.

Not the worst of nights, 1-1 is a good result over there.

I'm not too bothered of your justification for berating the team you claim to support calling them shite after a hard fought away draw in Europe.

We'd be as well leaving it there.

 'claim to support'. Not too bothered for your validation of my support either.

If United play badly, I'll say so on Redcafe.

Under Fergie till now and particularly recently we were smashing teams like Shakhtar at their home and getting 16 points at least from group stage, Right? We have never played defensively away EVER before.

A good result away to Shakhtar. Keeps us top for now and if we win our home games we'll be fine. I thought our defenders, Carrick and Cleverley were really good. Fellaini was decent in the first half but a poor second half. Van Persie isolated but I think he could have been a bit better with his hold up play. Welbeck also played well I would say and Valencia good defensively but wasn't the best going forward but OK giving circumstances.

Now on to Sunderland.
