Difference in quality of these picks  Stain is right, by round 4 the whole thing will seem pointless.

You guys should start over and add another league to the Spain one. This will soon become a very obvious waste of time for half of the ones involved.

Alright, my next pick is the guy who could seemingly play every single position in football, maybe even keeper.

Come on La Liga managers, let's show them that we aren't as bad as we seem! :wenger:

Maybe we should play the La Liga teams against each other and the Serie A teams against each other until only one team for each league is left, then have a final between them?

That's a better option IMO.

This seems like a logical thing to do if you're worried about a general discrepancy in quality. For a laugh I composed a couple of XI s now, sans the blocked players, and there isn't that much between those teams. In general there are more top level players in the Serie A pool – no doubt about that, really. But a final, featuring the crème de la crème, could easily be a tight affair.

mmmm not sure.

Even with current top picks for La liga .. the best team you could put up would be smth like this -

Neymar-------------Ruud----------------Suarez
-------Iniesta----------Xavi-------------
---------------Hierro----------------------
xxxxx------Koeman--xxxxxx------Alves--

Seria A 11 will smoke that easy.

Besides you will be fishing into some very obscure names by round 5 in La Liga draft.. not sure it will be that captivating or would invite that much discussion or votes in match ups.

The blocking rule has kinda screwed La Liga over since so many good players who played in their peak in La Liga in late 90s or early 00's ended up playing either later in Serie A or started their career there.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of two realistic XIs given the nature of the drafting and the reinforcements: In other words, it wouldn't necessarily be a straight match-up between the two best thinkable teams from the two leagues (there would be less than ideal players featured here and there).

But you obviously have a point.

Making all players who featured in either league available, would make a difference. But then you'd have to simply do over, I think - start the thing anew with a new premise.

Have thought this might now be the best way forward and then the final will be Serie A vs La Liga.

OR given the amount of whinging, just scrap the whole thing and move on to Chesters draft...

I'm nowhere near ready to go: I want to flesh it out significantly more, get feedback on certain ideas, assemble a team of henchmen...and so forth. So, that ain't really an option.

My suggestion would be this:

Cancel the present draft and do over: Allow people to draft in players who featured in both leagues, but stick with the two-groups format. The la Liga versus Serie A theme is still interesting - but in reality the true strength of the former league is artificially drained when you eliminate all the players who happened to feature in the other league as well.

How about reversing the reinforcement pools for the first round and then making it 1 la liga-1 Serie A for second round before reverting back to their own leagues or keeping it an open pool for the final reinforcement pick? Kind of goes against the theme of the draft but then I guess it might even up teams a wee bit?

I think this is an excellent alternative.

The la liga team wont make it past round one imo.

Make it an alternative league pick. First round of Italian league will pick Spanish players in the even number rounds and similarly for LA Liga drafters they'll pick Italian League players in even round.

Maybe we should stop the drafting once one of the leagues is finished. The time the Serie A managers are taking to make a pick, they finish with 8 players at most and should struggle a bit against the La Liga teams.

This seems fair.

Possible solutions -

- Allow La Liga teams to pick one player who played in both leagues. The choice can be made at the end with reverse order or sheep format can be used for that

- Extend the DOB restriction for La Liga till 01-Jan-1950

- 10 teams draft from Serie A / 6 draft from La Liga

- La Liga get to block 5 more players

How about this:

Relaunch the thing with a new premise: Serie A versus la Liga versus Premier League. Three leagues.

Each manager chooses a league and has to build a team based on players who featured in said league - with the following limitation:

Let's say you go with a PL based team: You can only field players who played in the PL. You HAVE to field X players who did NOT play for a team in either of the other two leagues. But you CAN field X players who played in either Italy or Spain (or both) in addition to the PL.

You could have managers choose their league freely - or you could do a draw: Five managers get X, five get Y and six get Z.

The above could be used as a premise for an exclusive Serie A/la Liga draft as well, but including the PL would broaden the pool and add a bit of spice (a "big three" draft, and so forth).

Good idea.

Something like for example for a PL team restriction can be

6 players who played in PL but not in La Liga and Serie A + 4 players who played in La Liga and only in one of La Liga Serie A + 1 player who played in all 3

Same for other leagues

You can still ban 3-5 players from each league

I'm not generally a fan of any evening-up solution that gets too clunky. We want to keep things relatively simple.

La Liga probably merits its own non-restrictive draft at some point: this isn't really the place given the concept.
