Give Madrid a buy back clause if they like but have it at £55-60 million as a release clause.

Feels like Madrid fans have much more belief in the links between him and us than United fans from what I'm seeing

Edit: RM want rid of Bale so bad, we should offer to buy Reguilon for €25m with a buyback option if they throw Bale in for a 2 year loan and pay 75% of his wages.
Sevilla just announced the Marcos Acuna signing so that completely rules them out too. Think it's just a matter of time before we come to an accord with Madrid
Think the issue is that Shaw is always good for a few injuries a season, especially if his game time isn't managed. Thats not good for a fullback. His actual play from an attacking sense also leaves a lot to be desired. Our options after him are pitiful, and with us playing 2 games a week for just about every week this upcoming season, it'll be a brutal schedule and one that everyone who is injury prone in our squad will crumble in. Buying Reguilon who is at a similar level overall (better going forward/worse defensively) will work well for us for when we want them to play together in a 3-5-2, or just competing and rotating based on fitness/form/opponents. And hes available at a very good price. Its a no brainer signing but unfortunately seems to me like its something driven from Madrids side rather than ours.
Him or Telles,he'd be naive to go in with the same options he had last year after apparently seeing Williams as more a RB back up than LB.
We all saw just how often that left flank became a black hole as soon as Shaw got hurt last season and I'm certain Ole understands it too with Shaw being pretty nailed on for a lengthy injury spell each season.
Buyback or not he will always want to go back if Real come calling. Only advantage then we have is we can demand the fee.

He would be a nice bonus and talented backup for Shaw, but feels like this shouldn't be prioritised over Jadon.

Alex Telles would automatically start over Luke Shaw, Reguilon maybe against Palace if they'll set defending against us, but in October where we have 4 tougher games I'd probably still go with more experienced Shaw.
Up to Ole to decide as he seem to like the idea of Reguilon coming, me personally just want priorities getting done in the right order.

Huh? Shaw is great going forward. The issue is that a strong gust of wind would put him out for two months, so we need cover for him.

I don't see the big deal. Allow the buy back. But we set it at 80mil. That way if they want him, it will be because he's really good and they can pay the market rate for him at that time. They aren't dealing with a small club like Deportivo, you wanna ask for a buy back? Sure. But we decide what it is.
We'll have to agree to disagree on that. Shaw is an average crosser of the ball but he's a very good passer and dribbler. I'd love to see some comparison stats between him, Reguilon and Telles.
He is an extremely good footballer (and showing it presently) including in attack. He was integral to our record breaking run of 4 consecutive games won by 3 goals or more. We need attacking cover for his position but not because he is not a great attacking fullback (because he is excellent and will prove it 100% next season injuries permitting) but because he is injury prone and we need some diversity in the position.
Thats the difference really that he doesn't whip in bendy crosses. he is a bit pigeon toed. Would be nice to have a player that can in the squad. That aside Shaw is an all around superb attacking fullback.

What are these guy stats going forward anyways. His assists etc. The way he is talked about one would think he's close to TAA level of output going forward.
People downplaying Shaw based on assists stats but never take a second to look at what is the actual standard of assists stats when it comes to top FB in general. People want to compared him to TAA who in itself is a very different type of FB not only compared to Shaw but any other top team FB.
Trying to estimate Shaw's value based on assists is simply flawed given his game isn't always about the final ball but what he brings to the team overall. He can defend, help with the build up, go forward, overlap and has good link up plays with our attacking players. So his final ball delivery(crosses) isn't all that but how many FB have assist numbers similar to TAA? None out there.

What exactly is a problem with a buy back clause ? We are looking for a competitive option at left back and we aren't talking about a generational talent here. We would have better options in couple of years.

There's a large number of United supporters, and possibly people at the club, who think that every signing should be here for 10 seasons.
I don't know if it's a knock on effect of the Class of 92 or what but it's a bit odd to say the least and possibly contributes to the club being stuck with players that should've been shifted out five years ago.
