He is probably better than Shaw and does not get injured as much. With AWB being awful at attack, we need a more attacking fullback.

If he comes, Shaw is gonna be backup to him IMO.
I wish people would stop saying that about AWB, it’s just not true

People always tweet stuff like that and it turns out that the player never had it there in the first place, and even if he did have it and remove it, it doesn't mean much as he currently isn't a Sevilla player.
Yeah it’s hard to know. Same as Greenwood following him, could have been done a while ago after the semi final. If he has just removed it though then I doubt he’s going back which means he must be off to someone permanently as you’d think he’d just go back to Seville on loan.

It’s true he isn’t awful but it’s equally true we can not implement Ole style of play with players who aren’t better on the ball

pretty much all of our defenders are not suited to playing out from the back

In the game vs Seville, Reguilon was marking Greenwood I think

All our defenders?

Another sweeping statement for a change

I was on his Instagram earlier today and it said Sevilla player and also mentioned Real Madrid in the bio. Now removed also.

It very much is though, as soon as he crosses the half way line he looks like a deer in headlights ??
I don’t want to derail this thread too much as there’s already a thread about it but..

I swear I must be watching a different player to some of you. I see a player who’s actually great feet in tight spaces, and even in the very last match pulled a neat trick on the half way line. he’s created more assists than Pogba and more than a lot of fullbacks in the PL. he’s made progress this season. Yes, his decision making at times is frustrating because he could attack the other fullback more, especially since like I say he does have the skills to do it. The fact is he’s still a young lad who’s in his debut season at United, for most part was alone on the right flank with nobody to help create space. His game rose visibly when greenwood was introduced but dipped a bit after the lockdown break, which is understandable.

Our own fans calling him “awful” or like a “deer in the headlights” is poor. Lazy narrative.

For his first season I think he’s done brilliantly. He can only get better with more support on that flank

I have an issue with us trying to play out from the back. The 2 cbs in particular are too slow in transition and a few times have either lost the ball or been close to it. Unless we bring uppecamo in then have a midfielder drop deep to pick it up, every single one of them are ballers now.

Also what’s happened with a good old fashioned kick up the pitch from the GK too?

You're talking about AWB. The rest are criticising Shaws inability to attack. AWB did really well considering it was his first season of playing in so many competitions.

Shaw on the other hand has had atleast 6 seasons and is never going to be the player everyone wanted him to be.

Agreed, atleast mix it up we invite teams to pressure us and the rule of being able to collect it in the box just makes us try it more often and in an even more dangerous place.

the answer would be to get it to pogba ASAP, he could collect from deep and then go long or short, but he’s also liable to a brain fart on the edge of our box so I really think we need to find another way for now.
But anyway, nothing that hasn’t been said before and I’m not adding to this players thread.
Sign the guy up!

Reguilon and Fati have destroyed Ukraine on the left side. It's 3.0 after 30 mins.

Could that be a glimpse of what Reguilon and Rashford could do on our left side....

Golden Blunder is literally responding to posts criticising AWB.

More often than not it just results in the other team regaining possession. Don't get me wrong, there are examples where this is necessary and trying to play out from the back is not the smartest thing, like the Madrid City match, but in general being able to play out from the back leads to more constructive use of the ball.

Don’t think we’ll sign him. Think our name is being used again.

He’ll stay in La Liga.

Short memory. Shaw was excellent when he was available for us last season. It was very noticeable when he was out.

Was he excellent in attack? My memory banks must've deleted any excellent attacking performances of his.

Yeah, you never really know how players will do coming back from loan. Hakimi did benefit from playing as a wing back rather than a full back at times.

There is every chance Reguilon is the next Asier Del Horno or Alberto Moreno.

That being said if we aren’t going to buy a ready made LB like Chilwell then a gamble like this seems worthwhile.

Dont thinl he is a gamble, looks a good full back and at the very least a good deputy. but with the money we have I still dont see left back a priority and does he seriously improve our squad even? May really be a right back and right footed and not saying Reguilon may not be better, but Brandon Williams has been a decent back up the season gone. I just think if we are to sign a left back, someone like Nuno Mendes who potentially could add another dimension and be a huge player in a couple of years would be more worthwhile. I dont see Chilwell as more than decent personally, has done well and by no means a bad purchase like Reguilon would be for us, but £50m? If Chilwell is worth 50m you can see why Villa are wanting 75 for Grealish

Shaw managed zero goals and zero assists in an "excellent" Premier League season. That says it all.

Although he played against United I have never noticed him. I only ever heard his name for the first time on the Caf during the latest rumours. However, going by the first half against Ukraine I think he's a genuine talent and worth buying for the price quoted. He'd be a good partner to Rashford.

hmmm. He’s not the best defensively or attacking wise. People criticise AWB but at least he locks down his flank when it comes to defending.

His final ball wasn't. His short passing, link up play and off the ball movement was excellent. We will just pretend everything was fine when he got injured.

You'll have to remind me of all his feck ups.

Shaw's a much better defender than AWB simply for the fact that he can defend his back post.

Don’t have to feck up to not lock down your flank. Watch how much AWB prevents coming in from his side, the desire to stop crosses etc, compared to Shaw and, in fairness, pretty much every other full back in the league.

Scrolled 5 pages and no “welcome Manchester United” YouTube compilation?

no worries, I got it:

Shaw vs AWB isn't even a debate.

Neither is Shaw vs Reguilon at this point.

I'd start the season with AWB as our Right Back and best defensive fullback and Reguilon as our Left Back and best attacking fullback.

Shaw and Williams for backups/rotation sounds good if Dalot is to leave.

He caused us problems down our right side, assisted their equaliser.
