I'd have thought his brother, who's also his agent, is wiser than this (spreading rumours about him wanting to leave when he doesn't, not gonna work with Perez). Or perhaps it's a ploy to get a better deal from Madrid and his mother isn't really catching up with what's happening, which sounds plausible enough.

Let's be honest his mum probably isn't in the loop of what's going on, she might not even have talked to him in the last week or 2. I recall Ronaldo immediately after the Champions League Final saying in an interview he would stay, people aren't always honest when asked something they dont want to answer.

You could probably make a case for Hummels and Otamendi being better CBs than Ramos. Not that outlandish.

My list: Thiago Silva, Boateng, Piqué, Mascherano, Benatia, Ramos, Godin, Bonucci, Otamendi and Terry.
Pepe, Badstuber, Hummels, Chiellini, Kompany and others could be on the list depending on current form, but Ramos is in the top 6.
Two things stand out in this post mate.
1. Some of the defenders mentioned just aren't as good as Ramos, and there's no coherence in drawing up the list. Hummels, Godin (Gimenez outperformed him for a majority of matches since he became a first team regular), Hoewedes, Kompany (lulz ?) Garay, Barzagli just weren't as good as Ramos last season, and even in general apart from a couple of spikes here and there. You cite Barzagli's troubles last season, and discount them to an extent, but then include a central defender who only has one season of top tier performances in a big league in Otamendi. Seems very contrived. Also, Marquinhos isn't in Ramos' vicinity right now. Great potential, hasn't proven much and not even a first team certainty for his club. How he's being compared with Ramos I just dunno.
2. More complete footballers or on the cusp of being so ? Come on now.. Ramos and Pique are probably the most complete defenders around. How are the likes of Otamendi and Hoewedes more complete than Ramos ? I just don't get it..
No way are Howedes, marquinhos, otamendi, and garay better than Ramos. Also, Boateng had an exceptional world cup, but i think hes made mistakes too often this season, and he's looked labored quite often, and kompany has been rubbish this year too.
Boateng was our best defender this season. He had a couple of mistakes, but that doesn't take anything from his outstanding form in 2014/2015.
People maybe underestimating how far Ramos will go to get the deal at RM he wants, without having any intention of leaving what so ever.
All this 'i only want United' BS just doesn't ring true with me, likely we're the only club that's taken his agents bait, and he knows it'll really put the willys up RM to get him his new deal fast, because they know full well we can afford it.

the revisionism on Otamendi is pretty amazing. a few weeks ago he wasn't good enough, only had one decent season, was a risk, etc. now he's suddenly a better choice than Ramos.
