Manchester United Set to Table £25m Bid For Barcelona Midfielder
Sorry if this has been posted already.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing a £25 million bid for Barcelona’s Spanish international Sergio Busquets, amidst reports the tough tackling defensive midfielder is locked in a contractual dispute with the Catalan giants.
Recent reports in Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo have indicated that during contract negotiations with the club, Busquets demanded wages closer to that of senior team mate Javier Mascherano, but was snubbed by the club.
The contractual dispute will ensure Busquets is willing to listen to any offers that are a mark-up on his current deal, and Ferguson is ready to make a move for the 22-year-old. With the perpetual injury problems of Owen Hargreaves and the advancing years of Paul Scholes, Ferguson views the Spaniard an ideal partner for prospect Anderson in the heart of United’s midfield.
Manchester United chief executive David Gill recently revealed that he is likely to be making just one signing in the January transfer window, with media speculation suggesting the player would be a central midfielder.
“There may be one signing and maybe we'd like to get a good player to the club,” Ferguson revealed. “But it's not easy in the present day climate and I've nothing definite to tell you because we're still assessing whoever's available and the difficulties in terms of who you'd bring in."
Recently linked with Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson, Ferguson may be more tempted to offer big money for a more experienced player, with Busquets suitably fitting the bill.
If the proposed move by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson happens, Busquets’ departure would make room for long-term transfer target Cesc Fabregas, a player Barcelona have been trailing for months.
Caughtoffside.com report that Pep Guardiola will be more willing to listen to offers for Busquets than restructure the wage system at the Nou Camp. Guardiola fears he may set a benchmark for other players to demand additional wages if he submits to Busquets’ demands, something Barcelona cannot afford following last season’s announcement of record losses at the club.
He'd be the perfect partner for Anderson though.Great player but he's not the warrior we need in the middle of the park
He is not the type of midfielder we need.
I dont think he is the type of player we need.
So Busquets is worth 25m any day but Modric is not worth 30m as some said in another thread?
modric isn't that good :/
Well he sure as hell is better than Busquets, different players and all but still when people are laughing at the fact that Modric could be priced at 30m yet saying 25mil is a fair price for Busquets.. well I don't know.
(Don't get me wrong, Busquets is a good player)
His style is utterly dependent on being given a foul for any contact. He'd be useless in this league.
Not saying he's not good but his cynicism wouldn't work over here in the same way.
They've signed both Adriano Correia and Mascherano so its not as if they lack a defensive midfielder.
Probably because he plays next to Xavi and Iniesta. He's a very good player.Folks underestimate how ruddy good Busquets is.

It's pretty clear Busquets is one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe, probably in and amongst the top five. Can Modric say the same for his position?
Wouldn't touch him for free. You can interpret that anyway you like.
Midfielders who can run a game are worth more than a Busquets type player. Some of you are missing the point and I do rate Busquets!
Also this best in position is a load of bollocks considering the lack of quality in a certain position vs a position with high quality e.g. an Ashley Cole is never a better player than a Wayne Rooney.
Fair points. £25million though is not a lot to pay for a midfielder with a steep improvement curve (showing little signs of levelling off), already proven at the very top (Modric, promising as he is, hasn't been an important cog in World Cup and Champions League teams) and with at least a decade or so at the top level left in him. A lof of people baulked at the transfer fee for the 23-year-old Rio Ferdinand, but eight years of world-class service later it represents good value for money.
Imagine the crap we had to go through after Berba's earned penalty last week. Multiply it by a million. That's what it's gonna happen after every game this Biscuits dude plays for us.
Agreed. That one where he went down far too easily and actually looked at the ref through his fingers. Did he get somebody sent off at that one?
I wouldn't want that every game we play. He'd be worse than Ronaldo ever was.
modric isn't that good :/
He's one of the best five players ever.
He has personally abused a family member?
Motta was sent off, that said the challenge was yellow worthy and he was already on a yellow, so it's slightly inconsequential.
That was one game, Ronaldo was capable of some shockers too and it didn't happen every game.
You can't judge someone for diving in one game and say he constantly does it.
It's not just one game, I've seen him do it on occasions. I've never seen Ronaldo lay down and watch the ref's reaction through his fingers just to get a man sent off. If he were to come here, he'd have to cut it out.
Simple as that.
How hard is it too look good in defensive midfield for Barcelona? He's alright as a player, yeah, but I'm not convinced he's the best in his position.
But ronaldo has lay on the ground feigning injury whilst watching the ref's reaction, which is no different.
Simple as that.
