Manchester United Set to Table £25m Bid For Barcelona Midfielder

Manchester United Set to Table £25m Bid For Barcelona Midfielder

Sorry if this has been posted already.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing a £25 million bid for Barcelona’s Spanish international Sergio Busquets, amidst reports the tough tackling defensive midfielder is locked in a contractual dispute with the Catalan giants.

Recent reports in Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo have indicated that during contract negotiations with the club, Busquets demanded wages closer to that of senior team mate Javier Mascherano, but was snubbed by the club.

The contractual dispute will ensure Busquets is willing to listen to any offers that are a mark-up on his current deal, and Ferguson is ready to make a move for the 22-year-old. With the perpetual injury problems of Owen Hargreaves and the advancing years of Paul Scholes, Ferguson views the Spaniard an ideal partner for prospect Anderson in the heart of United’s midfield.

Manchester United chief executive David Gill recently revealed that he is likely to be making just one signing in the January transfer window, with media speculation suggesting the player would be a central midfielder.

“There may be one signing and maybe we'd like to get a good player to the club,” Ferguson revealed. “But it's not easy in the present day climate and I've nothing definite to tell you because we're still assessing whoever's available and the difficulties in terms of who you'd bring in."

Recently linked with Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson, Ferguson may be more tempted to offer big money for a more experienced player, with Busquets suitably fitting the bill.

If the proposed move by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson happens, Busquets’ departure would make room for long-term transfer target Cesc Fabregas, a player Barcelona have been trailing for months.

Caughtoffside.com report that Pep Guardiola will be more willing to listen to offers for Busquets than restructure the wage system at the Nou Camp. Guardiola fears he may set a benchmark for other players to demand additional wages if he submits to Busquets’ demands, something Barcelona cannot afford following last season’s announcement of record losses at the club.

I just hope it is not factual. His dive versus Inter last season was disgusting, when he just watches between his fingers. He is a cnut, not that good, and does not have the skills we need. I consider him a lesser player than Michael Carrick.

Waste of money.

he's a better player than Carrick imo

but he's in the same mould, not what we currently need

Guardiola would never have sacrificed Toure and invested so much game time in Busquets if he had any intention of getting rid. Busquets is the new Guardiola and will probably follow a similar career path at the Nou Camp.

No thanks, and I doubt we'd splash that much money if we couldn't play him in Europe.

Oh my god you're using a random website as a source that uses caughtoffside as a source what's the point in posting?

His style is utterly dependent on being given a foul for any contact. He'd be useless in this league.

Not saying he's not good but his cynicism wouldn't work over here in the same way.

He's a twat but a great player. I'd take him in a second for 25 million

Ditto. Massive upgrade on Hargreaves and 7 or 8 years younger.

He really is an odious little scrote though.

EDIT: just googles Hargreaves DOB. 20/01/81. Big 3 Oh in a couple of weeks time :(

I hate the guy but he's cracking player. One of the best DM in the world. I take him in a heart beat. Agree 100% with Pogue. Massive upgrade.

It's obviously bollocks but I can't believe people think his style would be as effective in the Premier League as it is in Spain.

Good player but we really don't need a player of his mould.

Oh yeah, and he's a twat.

I'd take him, no danger.

He's a quality player,

Summer next year Carrick will be 31; we'll surely be eyeing up fresh talent as a long term alternative.. so why not get a head start? Busquets is one of the best in the business, a like for like swap and he's probably a fair bit better too (certainly in his own league). He’d need time adapting so keeping Carrick as someone to rotate with would work seamlessly.

The diving antics are wank. But think to Ronaldo's behaviour against Barce (I think) recently. I'm not sure many would turn down the chance of bringing him back…

a sensible post.

all these continental players ave it in em to 'dive'.

That can be 'cleaned up'

But he is a quality player no doubt.

Some of you guys are tits!!! He's quality and would anchor our midfield for years..... Can't take caughtoffside serious though.
