Give me Giroud with extra pace as a striker and I'm happy all day long

I would take Giroud today let alone with extra pace. I still don't understand why we didn't go for Mandzukic or try to convince Giroud to join instead of Lukaku, these two are actual target men and Mourinho would have loved them. Though Giroud was allegedly prioritizing London.

Sounds about right. Don't even attempt to sign his striking partner Jovic (the better player).

Yeah. We should have gotten in a tug of war with Real Madrid over a player who's far from our top priority.

Woodward and team didn't want Mourinho's 'short term fixes' like Mandzukic. I agree with you on both counts about Giroud
As for Arsenal I doubt would have dared sell us a Giroud.

We're going to play shite target man football next season and at best try to grind out wins. That's a given. We don't have the personnel for a nything else. This lad will allow us to possibly succeed.....he can actually control and recycle unlike Lukaku

If his play style is like Giroud then I’m on board for him potentially replacing Lukaku. A steady, dependable 15-20 goal a season guy who’ll chip in with 5-10 assists.

My question is why Giroud rarely starts a match? Always the super-sub.

I think he is more useful when the people who play off of him are goal getters. Like Sanchez at Arsenal and Griezmann for France. At Chelsea Hazard is not much of a goal scorer and so is Pedro and willian. I think thats why they got Higuain in hope he will do the scoring, with the three behind him creating the chances. This is just an opinion. I think Chelsea fans and or Arsenal fans have a better opinion.

From the YT clips, which aren't much of an indicator I would prefer him to Dembele. He looks like a proper 9, those around him could benefit a lot from his link up play.

Certainly not in a place to pass any sort of evaluation on him but from the highlights I've seen it's not overly impressive. I hope he's a better player when watching proper games.

I still get the feeling that this is the player we'll get to replace Lukaku.

I think he looks really good in his YT vids, not much to go on obviously but I would prefer him to Dembele.

Seen him referred to as a bit of a Zlatan type. Tall and gangly and loves a flick and spectacular volley.

To be honest I think a striker who could hold up the ball and bring likes of Martial or Rashford into the game would be great for us. Firmino isn't the most natural number 9 but he just works in that Liverpool set up so well. Feel we could do with someone like him.

Lukaku is a goal scorer and nothing else. The rest of his game is so poor. If you feed him with plenty of chances and crosses he will get you goals. But we don't play with those type of players.

A target man doesn't mean shite football.

In 2018-19 season, he scored 20 and setup 12, that is a good output and I wouldn't mind him or Werner to lead our frontline. with good midfield and decent wingers he could bring everyone into play. I follow Bundesliga a lot and he is well known for his team work and down to earth attitude...we can do better with players like him

His depature would hurt Eintracht the most - even more than Rebic and Jovic.

First touch and general understanding of the game is really good. He’s a teamplayer and players around Haller benefit a lot from him.
He also won the most aerial battles in the Bundesliga last season.

Overall he has played 41 games, 20 goals and 12 assists. Speaks for itself.

As a Frankfurt supporter I really hope he stays but if he‘s leaving hopefully for United.

It's rare that I want a player this much but I'll genuinely feel like this is a bit of a missed opportunity if we don't bring him in this transfer window.

This is the way I feel as well. Nice to hear it from a Frankfurt supporter.

For all the hype surrounding Jovic he wasn’t nearly as intergal to the team’s overall play this season when I watched Frankfurt. And Haller’s stats per 90 were actually superior.

Haller is a really well-rounded, clever striker who would improve us significantly.

I do wonder what it would take to prize him away from Frankfurt though. Certainly won’t be cheap after this season having already sold Jovic.

Very good striker in the making I think.

Does strike me though as the sort who'd be more important signing for a team like West Ham or Everton where he could be number one. If he goes to Man. United he could only be a back up option.

He’d be clear first choice if we signed him, mate. Not a doubt in my mind.

I think he could work as a squad option at a top club, not sure he's quite good enough yet to lead things week in week out. Different strengths as Haller has much better control with his back to goal but Lukaku's gone from being one of most promising young strikers in world football with a very strong premier league scoring record to a nervous wreck in pretty much a year, that's what the pressure at the very top can do sometimes.

Is Rashford or even Martial playing down the middle completely scrapped now?

I'd say having Haller as squad option and then say a Cavani (if he's available of course) as lead striker for next two seasons is what Man United need to be doing. Lukaku going to Italy or PSG to balance the books.

No one thought Firmino was ready for a title-winning side. Haller has all the attributes you look for in a CF to improve teamplay and bring others into play just as Firmino did.

Rashford is nowhere near ready to be leading the line for us and probably never will be. And Martial will have to improve his workrate and movement to do so.

Haller could well be the perfect foil for both of them unless we sign someone better for the wings. And Bruno or Pogba would also thrive playing off him I think.

Firmino was signed in July 2015. It took him a good year to fully get in swing of things in PL and start showing his Hoffenheim form. In fairness Mane is probably better example as I didn't know if he could quite step up from his Southampton form when he was linked to Man. United under LVG.

Maybe so. I think Haller and Firmino are more similar though or at least play more similar roles. And both coming from Germany as well. I don’t have crazy expectations for next season but look how Firmino and Liverpool have progressed together the past few seasons.

That would be my expectation if we were lucky enough to sign Haller.

Have to say for Man. United I actually think Raul Jimenez would be a great fit upfront for you. I know Wolves signed him permanently a few weeks back but in the good old days do you think Fergie would've cared for a very minor detail like that.

Haller had a great understanding with Jovic at Frankfurt. I'm very hopeful Mason can play off Haller in a similar fashion.

Haller has similar attributes to Jimenez and would probably cost a significant amount more than the Ex Benfica player.

We only scored 65 goals last season. I am not sure we can depend on Martial, Rashford and possibly Greenwood to match last seasons targets never mind improve it.

If Ole goes all with kids upfront, you know the old inconsistency cycle will kick in, we will have goal droughts the likes we have not seen before since Dave Sexton.

We absolutely need a quality option upfront. All we have is inconsistency and youth at the moment.

My biggest worry as a United fan is Ole’s seemingly chummy relationship with Rashford and Lingard. If he isn’t ruthless enough it will all go pear-shaped very quickly next season.

Going to West Ham then. 35m.

I suspected he'd go to mid table club first, think that's a terrific signing for them.

You boys can sign him for 150m in a years time when he scores 15 next season.

No Tuanzebe for you with that kind of sass :nono:

What do we think of him as a Lukaku replacement?

It was tongue in cheek but does seem the trend now for the top clubs to just let interesting signings go and play for mid table ish clubs and then pay double for them 2 years later down the line.

You could've signed Maguire for 15m from Hull in 2017 when he was already looking good at prem level and now you're getting quoted 70m. Man. City were sort of being linked with Ruben Neves but let him go to Wolves and they baulked at 50m when having a look last season.

Same will happen if as I suspect Haller has a good season for West Ham.

I think I’d prefer Ben Yedder, just so it feels like a change of style, but I can see Haller doing well in the Prem. Would take either

This summers transfer business is just depressing, other clubs making moves for good players and where are we?

He would have been a brilliant signing for us and give us the closest thing to a striker capable of productive hold up play since Zlatan left. Terrible.
