Search for the Chosen CM to bring balance to The Force...errr Formation

No recurrences, he had a minor muscle injury that kept him out a couple of games not long after he came back which is common after a lengthy lay-off. Form-wise he's getting back to his best, the passing and ability on the ball in tight spaces was still there but over the last few games you can see his engine returning as he regains full match fitness.

Providing he comes in not as the main midfield purchase I think everyone would be made up. Fellaini and Mata out for Gundogan plus 1 would be great business.

From what I have seen I can agree. One of the very best in his position and still quite young.

Agreed, he would be the playmaker purchase, we'd still need to add a powerhouse like Nainngolaan/Schneiderlin/Kondogbia/Xhaka.

Yes, he is still only 24 so has plenty left in the tank. Unlike Strootman, Gundogan has made a successful return from his injury issues and would definitely give us something we asre missing in midfield.

This. Imagine how underwhelming this summer could be even if we get CL. I mean we all want some great players to solve issues at RB, CB, DM, CM, winger and striker. Prob end up with a bunch of left field purchases pretty much like all last summers buys which no one really predicted.

I am trying not to think like that, although recent links to mediocrity like Ings and Berahino is concerning. :nervous: If we got Memphis and Gundogan for a combined total of £40M that would be a great start to the summer window.

leaving names aside what skillset do we require in a new midfielder? Considering we will probably keep the players we currently have and the new midfielder needs to compliment those already here.

I think just like with the forwards we need strength and quickness( you add these two together you get power). We really don't have any power in this team and it would protect our team and allow players such as Blind and Herrera to further flourish. We don't need them to be supreme footballers either just like I don't think we need a 30 goal striker.

All out for Pogba. Add him to our side and he would improve us massively.

I really dont think we should lose our faces just to sign fecking Pogba. We are a proud club and shouldnt resort to that kind of purchase. Besides, I dont see why he is rated so highly, but then again, I dont watch Serie A.

We'd lose more face if we were stubborn enough to ignore any genuine chance to sign him than we would for resigning a player we let go.

We didn't let him go because he wasn't good enough, we let him go because he refused to sign a new contract when his current one was set to run out.

We're after a world class midfielder and that's exactly what he is. Letting something so petty get in the way would be barmy

Wait... Is this a whoosh?

So what we should look like even bigger tits and let him join a rival club? We should be all over him.

Yes I agree - it was a shame we lost him in the first place but I don't blame him as he knew he was good enough to get games as he proved ay Juve.

If he would consider coming back to us then I'd be over the moon as the combination of his physical presence and skill is quite unique even at a young age he is (imo) one of the top midfielders in the world and with the potential to get even better.

matic pogba and fabregas is quite frankly frightening... as is an on form toure and pogba

If he does not join us now I only hope he goes to somewhere like PSG so there may be an opportunity to sign him in a few years

In fairness if you watched you'd see why he is so highly rated.

I'd suggest we'd be looking for a more athletic and technically better box to box CM to upgrade Fellaini and allow Ander to be the more attacking of the 3 CM's.

Gundogan
Lars Bender
Sven Bender
Schniederlin
Vidal
W Carvalho

There is some decent options of there to massively improve our midfield, we have no excuses not landing some quality midfielders in the summer, top 4 or not.

Gundogan would be my first choice, conditional on him finishing the season without any recurrences of his injury and being fully fit. Nainggolan would be second choice. Every time I watch him I like him more, and I think he'd bring a lot of the things that LVG wanted (still wants?) Strootman for.

Neither of them would cost anything too astronomical either, hopefully. Nainggolan's profile is still surprisingly low relative to his merits. And Dortmund's difficult season will make them more vulnerable to losing players. Especially since they must have offered Reus a pretty decent contract to sign him up when they were in the relegation zone, making it by extension more expensive to keep Gundogan.

Aranguiz would be my shout for a more under-the-radar signing. Absolutely love him, astonishingly underrated player, potentially 'the next Vidal' if you ask me.

Nainggolan is certainly the closest in style to the two players LvG seemed to want in Vidal and Strootman.

I watched Atletic vs Leverkusen last night, Koke wasn't particularly good and Lars Bender didn't impress me either. I then watched the Arsenal vs Monaco match and thought Kondogbia had another good game, as did Moutinho.

I really like Kondogbia as well, has impressed me always in every game I have seen him albeit that wasn't too many times though. I think we need to go for at least two defensively strong midfielders in the summer anyways, especially considering Carrick's age. Kondogiba, Vidal, Lars Bender, Strootmann, Nainggolan, Schneiderlin and Veratti are for me the players we should looking at and trying to get two of them.

I'd like two as well but I get the feeling one will be all we will get as there are other positions that need strengthening as well and LvG will not want another massive overhaul in midfield. It's why I think all things factored in Sneiderlin and Xhaka are two very good options as they can double as a #8 and a #6 so we have an option other than Blind when Carrick is out.

W Carvalho

Pretty big rumours he will be off to Valência since they seem keen to pay close to his release clause. It will probably happen since Nuno knows him well and because of Jorge Mendes/Lim link. Can´t say no to a deal like this.

He would be 29 shortly after he joins and has hardly been pulling up trees in France recently. I would find that a concerning signing unless he was attainable for no more than £15m.

That's about the price I would imagine he would go for. We should be focusing less on hollywood signings and more on ones that can be effective immediately relative to LvG's system.

The Premier League could re-energise him. Playing for Monaco in the French League isn't exactly the zenith for a footballer these days. The wages will be big though as he will want to at least maintain the level he is on, this would be his last big contract.

I'm sure we can sort the wages out by simply letting the likes of Falcao and RvP go, much as we did last year when Falcao arrived after the Rio, Vidic, and Evra's substantial collective wages were removed. Shouldn't be any problem in that regard.

Lars Bender is someone we should be looking at, very under rated player.
I would hope United stay clear of any Dortmund players in their present form.

I was shocked how average Dortmund looked.

That's his brother Sven. Lars plays for Leverkusen..

I think the perfect CM for us is Arda Turan. Strong, fight spirit, creative and a big offensive threat when needed. His price card will be sky high, but so will his contribution be.

He, Tiago and Garay are the 3 deals that SAF were reputed to have lined up before he left.
