I hope you are right mate. Having said that I still think we would be putting too much pressure on the boy. Our midfield is in shambles
Not seen enough of him but do like that we are looking to buy young talent that's squad if not close to first team ready.
All the more reason to buy the likes of Longstaff that can and will go a long way to point us in the right direction.
I agree that we need a more established head in the midfield along with the experienced Matic, especially if Pogba leaves. Keeping Matic for another season would be great for Longstaff I'd say.
Keane had Robson and Ince. Scholes had Keane, Carrick had Scholes.... Longstaff has...
I think we need to build some solid foundations in midfield before we can entertain the idea of bringing in young talent there

Never seen the guy play, which is understable after making 9 PL apperances, but from what I read he seems highly rated with great work ethic and good passing. I am all for signing the guy for a reasonable fee, 25m + 10m in add-ons.

The club have made it clear that we are taking a different approach to transfers now compared to before, so not sure your post makes much sense.
We have tried to go down the route of signing ready made ‘stars’, look where that has got us. I still expect us to sign the odd superstar / big player every now and again, but the core of our business seems to have shifted to identifying the right types of players with room to grow, and with the right attitude. Let’s give it a chance before panicking.

It's truly bizarre, and you just know most of the people have barely seen him play.
It seems to be a case of "ooh, a midfielder, we need a midfielder", then the nonsense that 40m is some sort of buttons.
We had a spell of this a few years ago, where people were suggesting all sorts of utterly mediocre centre mids as a better option than not signing any.

But why does this club keep going from one extreme to another, this has kept happening at this club over the last few years, it's either let's sign players with a big reputation to let's sign unproven potential that may be good in a few years, same with managers and the playing styles they bring along with player preferences, it's no wonder we are in such a state, the same mistakes will be repeated if Ole gets the sack by once again a thing all panicky and react by replacing him with someone completely the opposite to Solskjear and that prefers a different formation, players and style of play.
Well one probable reason is due to the fact we do not have a Director of Football in place to help put together some consistency when it comes to the types of transfers we make, the managers we hire and the way we play football.
