Scott McTominay | Transfer discussion not performance discussion

Harvey Barnes just went for 43m so I don't see why you all are hand wringing about the fee

35-40m is pretty decent value. Good attacking style midfielder that can shoot well and is capable getting a decent amount of goals.

A midtable club playing him in the more advance midfield role will get a lot more out of him. We've been hoping some of our attacking midfielders at the club for years could play deeper but unsurprisingly it's not worked.

We have a player going for £100+ m from that team and we are talking about being happy with low number for McTominay? No, they should pay up if they want him. Specially when McTominay is no worse.

Although I think that every player is overpriced, don't settle for low numbers.

£40m is just what we are stating so West Ham will haggle us down to £35m and feel like they've got themselves a good deal. Anything above £30m is very good for us.

Our fanbase is truly special. Sell a player for too little, complain it's too low. Set a good price, complain it's too high. Don't sell a player, complain he's still here.

he’s much better than McT at football though in fairness

anyway, I hope we get 40 but doubt it

And he scored 13 goals last season. He would've cost more if Leicester weren't relegated and having financial problems.

I don’t hate McTominay like lots seem to on here, but think it’s best for all concerned if he goes and plays his football elsewhere.

Hopefully the £45m figure is negotiable and is set high to get us our target price. Anything more than £25m is reasonable in my opinion, wouldn’t argue with £45m though.

I think he'll be sold to West Ham for £35m. Not sure how he'll do. Definitely not similar to Rice but he's quite box to box which is kinda what Soucek was like. I'm intrigued to see if he can step up at a smaller club the way Perreira has. I think Pereira's the more technically talented of the 2 for sure, but I can see how Scott's energy could be useful. He's quite good at attacking the penalty box to be fair to him, which we didn't make use of very much.

Then you’re criminally overrating what Rice brings to a team. The reason he looks great at West Ham is because he has the ball all to himself in his own third, just like McTomminay would. You’re about to see that Rice will look just like McTomminay does in a top team when he’s asked to do things he’s not capable of.

Rice is genuinely outstanding defensively. McTominay, who often tries to play the same role, fails at this miserably.

Rice will work very well in a top team for this reason. That’s his job and he’ll do it brilliantly.

Because Rice played for a team that plays counter attacking football and all the oppositions attacks are funnelled into his area to clean up, you’ll see McTomminay doing the exact same if he goes there and you’ll see Rice struggle at Arsenal while he tries to do what McTomminay does for United.

No, you won’t see McTominay doing exactly the same. He hasn’t got the awareness, positioning or tackling technique in order to play the role effectively. It’s why he’s a shite defensive midfielder.

Rice is genuinely brilliant at those things. If you can’t recognise that then football probably isn’t your bag. I can understand reservations people may have when Rice is on the ball (and even then, he’s pretty good), but defensively he is absolutely sensational, and more than good enough to play that role in a top team.

I'm sure you've said this before. Sorry but come on, in what world is McTominay no worse than Rice. Rice is much better. Do you even watch West Ham games? Be honest.

Am I the only one who doesn't know what Mctomminay’s position is? He is poor in midfield especially alongside Fred. I thought Fred was the issue but it isn't Fred as he has proven alongside Eriksen and Casemero. I like McTominays attitude but his technical abilities are just not good enough. He will thrive in a team where he can run free and is heavily relied on like for Scotland, but that isn't going to happen at united. Sell him and bring in better players like Amrabat.

West Ham have a gaping hole in central midfield - and McTominay is a Rice-light. They sold Rice for £105 million - are you saying they will walk away from let's say £35+5 million including add-ons ? I am pretty certain they wouldn't, because it wouldn't be easy to find that kind of player who is better than McTominay, cheaper than McTominay and who wants to play for West Ham - in addition to the fact that Moyes needs an established player - he can't gamble on signing a replacement for Rice who needs 6 months to get used to the P.L

If West Ham really want McTominay - £40 million wont scare them away
Great just get the fecker sold.

Fellani’s position minus the hair and heading

He grew up as an attacking mid didn't he, and that's probably his favoured position, getting up and down, primarily getting forward.

1 or 2 games a season he looks utterly superb at it, like that 2 goal Leeds game.
But in general, as per Fred, who probably prefers the exact same role as above, they are badly utilised as defensive players despite lacking a lot of the key attributes.

A proper player there like Casemiro shows what we were missing out on.

McTominay is a much worse player for a possession football than he is for a counter attacking team. He performed brilliantly against the biggest teams. For a side like West Ham (Moyes) he is worth £50m. Easily.

Fecking Disneyland, mate. Guy really was an absolute clown and moron when it came to football. Set us way back with his mismanagement IMO.
Don't forget Matt Judge. He was Woodward's guy in charge of contract negotiations.

30m for McT and 40m for Maguire. I like McT he’s an athlete and a hard worker but it’s time to go.
McTominay looks like an athlete, but where is he athletic?

He isn’t fast, not particularly strong in a challenge. He’s never shown a great leap. His stamina doesn’t appear to be anything special. So what is his athleticism except a nicely sculpted chest?

He’s literally all those things.

This is a good post. We are saying opposite things, right?

Yeah agreed but CEO takes ultimate accountability and I’m sure those massive contracts wouldn’t have been offered or signed off without that clowns approval. Sorry I shouldn’t get so worked up, but the sheer ineptitude of woodward just infuriates me.

We see it for Scotland though..

I’ve said before. It is one thing to play for a team that plays deep defending with 10 players. It is another where you need to show more quality both attacking and defending. We have seen Rice playing for England and how it goes.

Even if we all see his limitations for us, he’s done enough for his country (and united!) against good sides to be worth as much as the likes of Connor fecking Gallagher. What he did at palace isn’t any better than what Scott could do at the same level.

Yes hit 'em with the United tax. It should apply to outgoing players too.

Hell, I'd put the price for Scott at 60 million.

Rice has been in a system that plays to his strengths, anyone can look brilliant in that setup and you’ll see it this season when he struggles to replicate any kind of form for Arsenal, then we’ll discuss who doesn’t know football.
