Well that's our chance of selling to Newcastle probably well and truly gone now. You just stick to playing for your national team so do us a favour and go elsewhere in the summer.

Seemed to be ridiculously high at times. Carried away with his 2 for Scotland, or an instruction?

Left Sabitzer in the lurch in the buildup and had Bruno dropping into areas where you really do not want him.

He was man marking Bruno Guimares and trying to get forward since Weghorst doesn't have the pace to, with the idea being that Bruno would create from deeper. It didn't work at all, but it makes theoretical sense, so I don't think Ten Hag is crazy, though does feel like Rashford should have just started up top and maybe Pellistri and Antony out wide on their "natural" sides and we just went for width and pace on the counter.

It’s pretty damning when John Stones is a better midfielder than him. Stones put on a master class against Liverpool compared to what McTominay does.

But media and some fans still push a story about his energy and fighting spirit. In reality he is a lazy fecker
What fighting spirit? He will be a backup player in max 30% of teams in the prem. Heading the Lingard route, can’t even get a game at Forest.

John Stones is a footballer and had to earn the right to get a game at City. We have a handful of players that are getting games because of how long they’ve been with us.
Who said there is no loyalty in football. Iqbal or Mainoo would have done a better job but this is getting old now and Ten Hag should have seen enough by now.

Unfortunately, MUFC hang onto Championship level players and despite those players not being good enough, we keep playing them.
If we do get taken over by Qatar, trust me, those guys will be ruthless and demand results.
Lacklustre players like Scott McT will be sold quickly and ruthlessly. And if the manager doesn't want to be ruthless and doesn't win trophies, the manager will be changed.

We have players that are just happy because they are United player, so they have made it.
This is time to stake claim with Casemiro out but no, it’s just a job. Forgetting for the fans it’s not a job but an expense.

He better not be at the club next season.

Enough of these low technical players. We need to add real quality to the side.

Should've just started Mctominay up top and binned Weghorst. I reckon Scott would offer more up top

Would he really start for Newcastle? Maybe he should move to a weaker team.

Yeah doesn't make sense. He'd rotate with Joelinton essentially. Newcastle need to spend big on Maddison, it's a no brainer for them. They lack creativity in midfield and Maddison next to Bruno and Joelinton would be a very good midfield. McTominay is just depth for them.

This is the opposite of putting a player on the shop window.

Everyone at the club has got years of evidence to know he's fecking shit, so why are letting the idiots who want to buy him know as well? Keep him wrapped up and hidden on the bench, with the occasional injustice story of him not getting chances unfairly. Then you feck him off this summer to the mugs who are willing to give us money.

I understand why ETH thinks Sabitzer and McTominay go together but they're both such average players. McTominay was even out-hidden by Sabitzer yesterday.

He was rubbish yesterday.

Overall he's just not good enough, never has been. It really is just that simple.

I remember that very moment. And today wasn’t the first time. His passing is so poor that often tries to literally walk the ball to his teammate himself as he doesn’t trust his ability to pass it. How he’s managed to con a Manchester United career for himself is one of football’s real mysteries.
The biggest issue at this club is if you keep your head down, work hard and stay out of the way you can buy yourself a five year spell here. The standards at the club are shot to pieces.

It rubs off on the fans too who until a couple of games ago were happy to permanently sign Wout or after a goal against 9 man Fulham wanted us to sign Sabitzer.

Not every player can be world class but we keep average players for far too long. Ruthlessness is not a word that exists here.

Would find it hard to believe Newcastle would have any interest in him. Wouldn't get near their midfield.

Seeing a few reports from good sources that there are no plans to move on McTominay which is actually quite concerning to me. He has been given ample opportunity at United now and has never once been able to provide consistent value in midfield.

Had high hopes for this game after his Scotland outing. But the way he jogs back after losing the ball in dangerous areas constantly did my head in.

It’s all sown to reasons other than his ability as a footballer. ‘He’s the youngest of the senior midfielders’. Or last week I read ‘they are proud of having a player who has been at the club since he was 5’. What the feck do either if those things count for at 3pm on a Saturday?

It's honestly maddening. Frankly, his history in the academy shouldn't count for shite other than registration rules.if that ever becomes an issue. Besides that it's pure sentiment.

The age point, meanwhile, might have some merit if he was 22 or 23 but the guy is 26 now. He is not the midfielder the squad needs and he's never going to be.

The fact that some people still talk about this guy like he's some up-and-comer is mental, and it's driven solely by the fact that he came from the academy. If we actually aspire to be challenging for the title, we really need to be getting past this over-attachment to academy products.

Our only hope for McTominay is that he himself decided that he wants to leave and forces his own way out. It’s clear that he’s some sort of protected species here for whatever reason.

Well that does tie in with how the club operates under the current ownership. As someone posted above you can survive at Utd for years by just keeping your head down and plodding along.

Any team with any ambition would take the money and bring in someone better. It’s why we can never kick on because after any upturn the club is less open to buying and selling players.

Yeah, it's absurd. I don't think we're actually too far away from a squad capable of challenging for the title, but I am happy for us to instead build for the future. What makes no sense in either case is keeping players around due to pure sentiment.

I've seen no good arguments for retaining McTominay, and "he's the youngest midfielder we have" is honestly just ridiculous.

McTominay is not good enough for united in any position. He is terrible in midfield especially alongside Fred. I though Fred was the issue but it isn't Fred as he has proven alongside Eriksen and Casemero. I like McTominays attitude but his technical abilities are just not good enough. He will thrive in a team where he can run free and is heavily relied on like for Scotland, but that isn't going to happen at united. He just isn't a brilliant team player. Sell him and bring in some real world class.

23 passes in 82 minutes.

Fred came on for him and attempted 12 passes in a little over 10 minutes.

Again and again and again, it's the same thing with McTominay.

What's mad is that if he has a decent game mid week people will defend him and state "great squad player, told all you haters not to doubt mcterminator" it's beyond infuriating at this stage. The fact he has over 200 games here shows how utterly inept our club is run. No top team would keep him around this long.

How he still gets game time here is crazy. Game after game, season after season. He's got to go, I'd sooner play Lindelof in midfield.

Same shit, again and again and again. When he plays well he does good stuff with those touches when he plays badly he does bad stuff. But none of that matters in a player with such an uncanny skill for constantly finding areas of the pitch where the football isn’t.

There is a make do attitude at the club and we hardly sell anyone for whatever reason(s). Every summer there is talk of a big clear out but players only really leave on loan or if their contract expires.

In each of the last thread summer windows we’ve only sold one player who was part of first team squad Perreira, James and Smalling. It makes no sense.

There's a difference between declaring interest in a player and making an actual offer for him. If the only thing Newcastle did was inquire about his availability for a transfer, it was the right thing to big him up a bit and make a case of how important he is a squad member. If they put an offer on the table, i'm sure we'll be more than willing to discuss it. After all, the internet is currently rife with rumours that we'll be in the market next summer looking for a striker and a midfielder. Or, at least, i want to believe that Erik hasn't lost his mind after only a season at the club. The problem is that no one will come knocking on our door for him.

Him being the ‘youngest’ midfielder is clearly of greater relevance than him being the worst one here.

This is beyond ridiculous, he's a midfielder ffs. I've been saying it he hides from receiving the ball he makes himself unavailable. He's fecking useless, can't stand him.

I don't know how has he managed to be here so many years he's awful and he's not going to improve.

Outstayed his welcome at this club by a good 4 years. It really highlights how atrocious we manage our squads that he can still be here and playing a big part. It's ridiculous and frankly unacceptable. Awful, awful footballer. History will not look kindly on the people who empowered the club to keep shite like Lingard and McTominay well past their sell-by date.

Sure there was a game last year where an opponent came on at halftime and still doubled MCT's touches

Only reason i see is there is a connection between SAF and Mctominays family that no one has disclosed.

Made the most amount of tackles yesterday, highest number of completed tackles, highest number of ball recoveries, similar amount of touches to Sabitzer his midfield partner, similar amount of passes than Sabitzer

I think it's fair to say McT was better without the ball than with it, but the midfield were out muscled, outworked, out fought by a team who showed more desire.
