It's about time he's shown the door. We're left with a shit squad and bemoaning our luck in missing keybplayers because we hold on to terrible players like him for so long. He's not a decent squad player. He's not a decent option. He doesn't "do a job" he's just plain shit. As for what he does for Scotland I couldn't give a monkeys. Scotland are shite too
Yes, this should be stated over and over again: a good squad player is someone who is willing to sit on the bench and can contribute meaningfully when called upon. McTominay only fulfils the first of these two criteria.

He is utter garbage - I don't care about a few bright moments for Scotland.

He's shit, can't pass can't defend he's poor at positioning and anticipation. Besides being tall he has nothing. The fact he's managed not only to stay in the team but to start so many games for us shows how poor our squad has been through these awful years.

Rubbish.

He has a handful of good games every 2 years. I'm sick of seeing this ghost of a player.

If Newcastle can turn him into a world beater then fine, give us 30-50 million then we'll take our chances on someone else.

Shouldn't have played him today. No chance Newcastle are interested now they've actually seen him in person.

Useless player. I never know what he's out there doing because he's bad at every aspect of midfield.

Have we ever played good with him in midfield? I will go over the board and say it; we would be better with 10 men instead with him in lineup.

Yeah it's all I've been saying. Fred is a perfect example of a good squad player: has his uses, can be very good in specific situations starting or as a sub, but you don't want him in any first choice XI. McTominay is none of those things. Bin him off (and it's laugable that Howe can watch him today against his own team and think he'd improve them)

What's amazing to me is how bad defensively he is 90% of the time, he jogs around more than Pogba ffs out of possession.

Look at their first goal, he made numerous mistakes, Dalot and him getting in each others way, the pass to Martial when perhaps he could have just hoofed it. However he comes out to press, Bruno deflects it back and instead of spinning and getting back into the box, as Cas would, he just strolls.

Best part about this thread is that he only needs to score a one goal and he will become again "good squad option".

Yeah, I don't really get that argument to be honest. We don't need him to be scoring goals, we need him to be a serviceable deep-lying midfielder and he's proven time and time again that he isn't.

This guy was outclassed by an Ireland midfield. Most of Irelands players play championship football. He's tumescent and given multiple chances every season to prove he can hack it here. He needs to be either loaned out or sold.

But media and some fans still push a story about his energy and fighting spirit. In reality he is a lazy fecker

There's a moment in this game that summed him up as a midfielder.

We won the ball in midfield and had the chance for a quick transition in midfield. Antony was running in space that opened up on the right wing. Mctominay had the ball in the centre circle and could've played a pass to Antony into the open channel but he holds the ball and runs with it for a few yards taking about five touches until he's a couple of yards away from Antony then passes it to him. He completely ruined a potential attack because he doesn't have the ability or confidence to play such a simple pass.

Casemiro would have played that with one touch and an attack would have opened from that. Mctominay is about as much of a CM as Wout is a striker.

He has two skills on the ball, running into open space in midfield and striking the ball cleanly, that's it. He can't pass to save his life.

Agreed that he is often easily bypassed. The difference between him and Pogba is occasionally McTominay puts in an aggressive tackle or gets in the face of the opposition which gives the false illusion of a hardworking player.

I'm not going as far as to say he is lazy but I don't think he has anywhere near the work ethic that someone like Weghorst, Fred or Bruno for example.

I remember that very moment. And today wasn’t the first time. His passing is so poor that often tries to literally walk the ball to his teammate himself as he doesn’t trust his ability to pass it. How he’s managed to con a Manchester United career for himself is one of football’s real mysteries.

Well that’s one of the differences between them, yea.

A nothing type of performance again. One good interception and run up the pitch and that's about it.

Exactly. That is what i said dozen times already. One nasty tackle and he is a warrior in eyes of fans.

The most disappointing thing about him is the lack of effort, he should be running himself into the ground, sprinting back and chasing lost causes. Instead he just ball watches and ambles around, even after he loses the ball.

I just don’t understand how such a limited player has been allowed and allowed himself to be so slack.

Seemed to be ridiculously high at times. Carried away with his 2 for Scotland, or an instruction?

Left Sabitzer in the lurch in the buildup and had Bruno dropping into areas where you really do not want him.

Dundee United material.

Typical of him to show something great once in a while and then regress into another level of shit.

Young kids should look up to him as he has shown that you can make it this far whilst having very little footballing ability.

I remember another time when Shaw made a great run through their midfield after we won the ball and McTominay was on it. It took one clever reverse pass and we would have had a 4v3 possibly (wasn't even a long or difficult pass to make) and McTom bailed on it and passed back to Martinez instead while Shaw was visibly frustrated.

Says it all really.

When we have possession, he ambles forward into a position where he can't receive the ball, and then when we inevitably lose possession he's nowhere to be seen and bypassed easily. Needs selling in the summer.
