Bloody hell, i swear that opinion on this forum is based only on latest performance. Regarding team, manager, players, opposition...everything.And yet there were no shortage of idiots on the matchday thread at halftime, calling him shite and whinging for him to be replaced.
I swear there is a decent percentage of posters in those threads that aren't even watching the games.
He isn’t good enough. But he is still improving and his top level is high; he could be good enough one day. I wish he’d hurry up about it.He has about one good game in 10 and several average at best performances. Don't let yesterday cloud what he has shown for a long time, he isn't consistent enough and has been found hiding in most games. He isn't good enough
Fantastic, especially as the game went on. It's so ridiculously obvious that the only way we'll see anything good from McTominay is when he's given some licence to rampage forward. Useless when sitting deep.

Yeah a player like Rice would solve so many problems for us. I wouldn't lose that much sleep over Pogba leaving if we had a legitimate defensive midfielder holding the fort and the likes of McTominay, Fred or, dare I say it, Donny Van de Beek competing for the spot next to said midfielder.Exactly. Not saying oh he is suddenly wonderful and world class after one performance but I've always liked his attacking game and I don't see enough of it because he is doing too much of a defensive job too deep. He feels trapped there.
It's why I said in the Declan Rice thread (I'm a fan of him) that the reason I want him is because in a double pivot he really allows you to do your thing; I can imagine Mctominay being his best version next to him, or Fred being the best Brazilian international version seen in his international games etc and the same with other midfielders.
I say that because again - I want to see the attacking box to box game version of Mctominay more; even if he doesn't start every game for us.
About time he had a good game. But, it was one game against a shit Spurs team who also had a lot more possesion.
Let's see how he goes over the next 10 to 20 games. Can he play like that every week? As Roy Keane said, it's about doing it every game not just when you fancy it.
Hard to imagine a more technically limited midfield than Rice-Mctominay...Exactly. We need 2 new CM's to be honest - and they need to meet a minimum standard of running/tenacity, defensive awareness, game intelligence and technical ability. The issue we have right now is no matter what combination we put out in midfield, we'll be lacking in certain areas. Fred and Mctominay bring the running and tenacity without the technical ability, Matic can't run, Pogba's defensive work and running is poor.
Fred and Mctominay should be squad options.

Mct is average football player who would struggle to enter in first 11 of Newcastle or Burnley.
Yesterday he was good. Yes, he was. His one good game in 10. And it was because we played with 7 defensive players and sit deep. He is one of biggest reasons why we lose midfield battle every game; because of his complete lack of skill to pass, control the ball or create.
Am i harsh towards him? Yes, i am. And i don't know why i shouldn't be.
The key with Scott, and it's the same with Fred, is that they do their best work when our team is compact and set up to counter.
Scott is never going to be good enough to get his foot on the ball and dominate play when our players are separated by distance. When we move as a block defensively, and he's always close to teammates, he looks a lot better.
Ultimately it's down to style of play. As long as Ole doesn't try and have him do things that are beyond him he'll look a player.
Yeap and that is fine if your playing for the likes of Burnley, Everton or Southampton. Him and Fred are probably two of the most technically limited players I've ever seen play for the club.
Playing for Man Utd. You want to be at the top competing for the league and the CL. Then you absolutely have to have players with the ability to get their foot on the ball, control the game and play on the front foot. Especially with the attacking talent that is at the club right now. These two just cannot do it.
He's coming on 25 years of age, if he isn't doing it now he never will.He isn’t good enough. But he is still improving and his top level is high; he could be good enough one day. I wish he’d hurry up about it.
That is absolute nonsense, in my opinion. It might be true that he will never be good enough but the idea that players don’t improve after age 24 is just guff. He's coming on 25 years of age, if he isn't doing it now he never will.
ruining the term "world class" and rendering it useless. Any person who drops a great performance once every 10-15 is "world class when they are good?" I have heard it all now. That could be said about Pogba but not our Scotty.Apart from a few moments where he couldn't take the ball with him in his stride, he was excellent. That fizzed ball to the wingback reminded me of Scholes. When he's good, he's world class which a lot of our fanbase would refuse to admit.
Needs to build up some consistency now that there has been a few weeks since he's come back.

You think McTominay is usually covering for Fred? I would have to disagree, I'd say Fred does the work of 2 men on any given day because of how poor Scott usually is.He was as much of a #6 on Saturday as in any other game. He did a lot (if not most) of his good work from the DM position.
The difference was that he didn't need to babysit Fred as much as usual. In other games, McTominay's main job is to cover Fred when Fred charges into a tackle and gets bypassed. Against Tottenham, having a third centreback meant McTominay could concentrate on his own game.
Fred has his uses as one of the better pressers in the league. As such, he gets into my first choice United XI. But his limitations hurt McTominay more than anybody. I think the 3-5-2 will help both of them in the coming weeks.
With how often Fred gets bypassed in midfield the ask of his partner will always be higherYou think McTominay is usually covering for Fred? I would have to disagree, I'd say Fred does the work of 2 men on any given day because of how poor Scott usually is.
