Delighted for the lad today, after a dodgy game last week. In that pressure cooker environment, especially after they got a goal back, it must have been immensely hard to stay focussed and disciplined. But he looked right at home.
This is what is most encouraging. Subbed after a terrible first half, that would make a lot of young players crumble. He came back in and was superb in the biggest game of the season (Liverpool always is, unless there's a cup final or league winning game).

The pressure on him today was immense and a neutral couldn't have guessed it, and I couldn't notice any signs of it. Very composed and disciplined.

When he passed back to slow the game down, the crowd moaned but Jose clapped. Doing a very tactical job to the manager's delight in the centre of the field against your club's biggest rivals after being subbed off midweek. It's impressive.

So mature out there. Made all the right decisions. I don't get how he can just step into games like this and play like that. You don't get that from young players in CM. Outstanding.

He's a brick wall. Twice he's been cleaned out and twice he got up like it was nothing. I loved his composure. A lot of players can learn from that.

He's a Matic clone. It's ridiculous how similar they are.

Was just going to say, think playing next to Matic is something that's really good for him, he looks like at times he could dribble away from danger but feels reluctant to do so, he did a couple of times near the end of the match when he had no other option but otherwise he plays it safe. Matic is great at dribbling into space so Scott will hopefully learn from that.

Of course if he learns how to hit a worldie or two every season I wouldn't complain either :)

He was fantastic today. Hard to believe he has so little experience when he plays like that.

Did really really really well. Not once looked out of place considering how big the occasion was. We have found a gem!

Very mature performance. I think there’s more to this guy than a lot of people seek to think.

Another great performance in a big game. Well done lad. Suits our set up in these games, we don’t need him against sides like palace

50 odd million saved in the summer for a new backup midfielder.

Jose's played a blinder with this kid. So much for him not being great with young talent.

Hopefully Tuanzebe and TFM can come into the fold at some point too.

I was probably the first one to point out that here. He's very similar to Matic in almost everything it's ridiculous.

His composure and maturity is way beyond his age.

Really like this kid. The best part of his game is that he gets up like Kane from WWE after a knock.

I disagree. He may be similar in a lot of aspects but Matic is much better on the ball and has a great shot. As much as I like McTominay, he still needs to improve on the ball and also learn from Matic how to shield the ball.

Matic is about 9 years older than him though. Scott still in his developing age so if you compared their quality at Scott's age and if he continues to develop like this, he can very well become Matic's successor.

If you don’t rate McTominay you don’t understand football.

Superb today.

Much much better performance from Scott.

Interceptions after interceptions, he is a constant nuisance to the opponents.

His sliding tackles are much more cleaner this time.

:D Keep up the improvements, and kept on performing good.

I can't see Scott having similar playstyle as Keane, Matic or whoever players we would like to compare though.

His playstyle is very starkly different than those.

Of course - his maturity is so way beyond his age that I'm sure he'll add these to his game.

Doesn't quite have the skillset nor attacking inclinitation of Lampard, but someone was saying what stood out about Fwank when he was young was that he wasn't bad at anything. Ditto Kane, incidentally.

McTominay has that feel to him. He's not amazing at anything yet, but his game doesn't have big glaring weaknesses.

I still fear he plays a position where it's easy to 'look' good, but in a perfect world he can swap with Matic as he gets older, rather than playing both. Feel that limits us quite a lot.

Very good. Most encouraging thing about him is he always has the time to lookup and decide what pass he's going to make and not in the least bit afraid of trying more difficult passes. Matic comparisons are a bit too premature for now given he hasn't demonstrated Matic's level of passing yet. But looks a cracking talent.

Starting to think that this guy may be the better option for a big game than Pogba, his calmness and positional awareness actually surprises me
I agree. Defenders felt comfortable pushing up knowing he would naturally slot into fullback positions. Not a natural intuition for Pogba to do.

Very good game, played beyond his years. Will be interesting to see how good he can become. A little more adventure in his passing and we’ll have a real gem of a player.

Think he has been very good in the last 3-4 games. Throw him into crucial matches, and he never has looked overawed even once. I am really starting to believe that he could go on to become a Matic like player in the future.

On to today’s performance, he was phenomenal. Did his job to perfection. Possibly one of our biggest matches this season, and he stepped up to the occasion. What really surprised me was how calm and mature his performance was today. Played like a veteran.

How amazing is it that, despite the millions we have spent, it’s two academy lads that were pivotal for the win, against our biggest rivals, in a crucial match.
