What is his job exactly? Only Smalling and Lukaku have had less touches, he has no tackles, no interceptions, won a couple of headers ans made one clearance. If he is supposed to be man marking Banega then that was a disaster given he's had 29 more touches than any other player and made 7 key passes!

Cover midfield positioning? Would explain why he's always moving around. Maybe I'm making his performance relative to our other options there atm (and him being a youngster in his first CL game). That and his work rate.

No wonder Jose likes him; works hard, good at defending and useless in attack. Perfect Mourinho player

He's spent the good part of 37 mins running aimlessly in circles and when he does get the ball it ends with a shit pass.

I have no idea how anyone has convinced themselves that he's doing quite well so far.

He's running around with no purpose, and for some strange reason people think it's equivalent to doing a good job.Absurd.

It looks like for some posters, if a player does not score a hat-trick of own goals, he would be "doing ok". If we had a title winning team we could carry him and maybe give him some minutes but unfortunately we don't. McTominay does not belong to this level. Simples.

I’ve been tough on him since he’s been in the team, but he’s been as good as any of our outfield players tonight.

I'd say actually the problem with some of our fans is the exact opposite. He's been tidy enough in possession, disciplined and worked hard. He hasn't set the world alight but he's putting in a perfectly serviceable performance on the biggest stage he's played on in his career so far.

I haven't been convinced by McTominey before tonight, but I can see what Mourinho likes in him from this display.

Fair play to him, he has played well tonight so far. I would like him to go forward with the ball a bit more, but hopefully that will come in time.

He's composed on the ball and never looks hurried which is always a good trait to have. Need to do more with the ball.

Poor performance from the team overall but he did well. Shielded the defense well and nicked the ball on the edge of the area countless times. One of our better players tonight.

Best he's played for us in the second half. It's the first time he's actually made an impact on a game.

Decent performance from him tonight but he has no business starting a CL knockout game.

Very well is pushing it, especially as a better side would have punished one of his two big mistakes. Agree that aside from that he did fine.

My man of the match. Calm and composed on the ball. Showed some nice touches, passed it well and was there to break up attacks when needed.

Only issue I have with him is he needs to have more confidence in himself. He had let other players take the ball off him or allow him to be ignored. Hopefully with more games under his belt he will command the ball more often.

It's no surprise Jose likes him, not only does he satisfy his height fetish but he embodies Jose, boring, disciplined, steady, unimaginative, grafting over quality.

He was ok, I'm happy for this guy. He just turned 21 and started in away leg against good team. He should play more expansive game, he has good passing range.

Good game. You can see purpose behind his movement and the positions he takes up on the field.

Reminds me of another scot the way he just runs around and looks like a crisp packet blowing in the wind. Occasionally pops up in a good position to intercept a pass.

Just nothing to get excited about and looks very limited technically which tbh we seem to have a lot of.

Will only improve with experience. Gives the ball away too much- reminds me of Rashford that way. Needs to be locked in a cellar with endless loops of Iniesta 24/7. But if he sticks at it can make a big impact

I was impressed by the fact McTominay was not overawed by the atmosphere in Seville. The ground sounded loud, its a European knock out and he was probably more composed on the ball than he has been in any of his other games. A lot of being a top player comes down to having the guts to perform under pressure. Very much more Darren Fletcher than Darren Gibson tonight. Colour me impressed.
