Schürrle on his way to Chelsea?

It'd be ludicrous if they got rid of de Bruyne.

I agree. de Bruyne is the better player and the greater talent. Never understood the hype around Schürrle.

De Bruyne is apparently going the other way on loan, not as a part exchange

You'd think signing another player that plays in a similar position to him after already signing Hazard, Moses and Mata (?) since Chelsea first bought de Bruyne is only going to push him away though. Why not just give him a chance next season instead of shipping him off on loan again? I understand Chelsea's reluctance to bring through inexperienced players from their youth team but de Bruyne's already good enough to be playing for them now. He's better than Moses for sure.

Decent player, but not on the level they already have. They can spend loads of money on these kind of players, I don't care. We're a gazillion points ahead and will be again (though the gap may be smaller) next year.

Not if they bring in a competent manager instead of fecking around with 1 or 2 each season.

They've been tracking Schurrle for ages, not surprised at all.

The only reasoning behind the Moses signing which i can see is for the HG rule. Similar to the signings of Rodwell and Sinclair. Obviously the clubs bought them as they do have potential to become good squad players but they aren't going to be on the same level as people like De Bruyne and Schürrle.

Does Schürrle ever play as a centre forward?

Not really. And I doubt that this would fit him. He is more the player for counter attacks because of his speed. Let's call him a poor man's Reus - as he is about similar with less killer mentality and no free kick abilities...

Chelsea seem to be working on the basis that if they slowly buy every single player that is any good and loan them out then they can just recall the player if Roman fancies them starting, not a bad tactic if you've got the money. I cannot see how it will be possible to use such a tactic under FFP though

He might go the same way as Marin, i'd rather recall de bruyne.

Incidentally does anyone ever get this annoying feeling when your club keeps being linked with or signs players in positions to which you already have a wealth of talent in? Like United wont sign a CM, we need to sign

1- top forward

1, maybe 2 defenders.

Just give the game time to De Bruyne.

Otherwise they are buying him for a year or what ?

Schürrley he will end up regretting this move.

We're going to have to break the bank if we want to keep up with Chelsea next season, especially with our midfield

Assuming Chelsea and City get the right managers (I believe the Fa Cup, if City win it won't be good enough for Mancini to stay) then you will definitely need to improve your CM. I can't see a title being won as easy as this in a long time.

We have a lot of players still improving tbh. Chelsea still need to sign a quality CM, 2 CB's and a top class forward. Probably a left back to compete with Cole too.

They are miles behind us, why would we need to break the bank to keep up with them when they are far behind now?

Thing is, so do Chelsea and City. It may take 1 or 2 years for them to catch up with you but at some point they will do so.

I think Chelsea could get there with 2-3 top class signings and a couple more utility players, and City too with a good manager plus maybe 1 or 2 players.

I don't think we need to spend heavily to catch up with Chelsea who are still some distance behind us in terms of quality.

Yeah, you won't have to spend heavily but that's only because you're a club with great stability and the best manager in the world. If City and Chelsea actually wanted to become consistent title challengers without having to spunk £100 million each January/Summer they'd need to have something similar in place. Goes without saying that it's very rare to happen though and the closest that we have came to it is Wenger at Arsenal.

Anyway, to Schurrle he's really not needed. If i was to say the first positions for each of the top clubs they should be looking at it would be

United: CM - Obvious.
City: CM - Garcia/Barry/Milner/Rodwell not good enough. Toure getting old.
Chelsea: CB - Obvious.

Getting rid of De Bruyne would be stupid.

Depends on the deal in my eyes. This deal with Leverkusen would be quite bad, but then again, Chelsea was ready to pay 30 Mil € for Schürrle in the summer, which left most of the German fans scratching their heads.

There is another rumored deal in Germany, though. A deal involving Dortmund, De Bruyne and Lewandowski. This deal would make sense for all involved parties:

Lewandowski wants to leave Dortmund and make the next step in his career. Chelsea would at least be an improvement in terms of salary and also probably fame due to the higher popularity of the PL. I also think the PL suits his physical style the most.

Dortmund would not lose Lewandowski to their biggest rival and would get some cash plus a highly talented midfielder, who would suit Klopp´s system quite well.

De Bruyne wants to play in the CL, which would be offered by Dortmund. His chances to become a starter would be higher in Leverkusen, but I still think he would have the potential to become an important part of Dortmund´s squad. Klopp´s reputation of being one of the best talent developer in the world could also play a role here.

Chelsea would get their hands on a true top striker, who is after Falcao probably the best available forward in the summer.

If Chelsea want to buy Lewandowski they have resources to just pay whatever Dortmund wants. Why would they trade De Bruyne when he's probably better than Marin/Benayoun anyway and can come in to their squad straightaway as a squad option ?

They must see something in Schurrle over De Bruyne or be offsetting possibly losing Mata to Real or something. Strange otherwise.

Current players whom we might reasonably expect to improve:

Rafael
Cleverley
Welbeck
De Gea
Smalling
Jones

Current players whom we might reasonably expect to disimprove:

Rio
Vidic
Evra
Giggs
Scholes
RvP
Carrick

Why can't you expect Jones, Kagawa and Smalling to Improve ? Evans and Chicharito are on upward slide too, though less so.

If we are talking this season, then We've largely won the title with our wingers sucking hard too and bought Zaha for that position who is again a young one on the up.

RVP won't decline for atleast 2 seasons. Same With Carrick probably. Vidic and Rio would be the main concern but Evans can fill in for one. Scholes and Giggs have as it is mainly been backup this season and only there experience will be missed.

That's even excluding the likes of Keane, Powell, Fabio, Januzaj, Henriquez etc.. who maybe ready to play a squad role in 1 or 2 years atleast.

Chelsea might be able to get close in terms of improving players, but City largely have a squad at their peak or declining except 2/3 players.
